I use hound in a more generic sense as “dog” but she may actually have some hound in her. Yellow lab mix. Sweet and lazy.

And since she thinks of herself as a lapdog despite her size (50lbs), she’s been shedding all over us with summer coming.

This…made my day! I would be mortified if I did that to myself while visiting people, especially people I didn’t know well. WEES. But, also, who picks up a random brush and starts brushing their hair? That’s weird!

Right, there have been lice outbreaks at my SOF’s school so I’d be paranoid about picking up even a human-comb that belonged to someone else.

Wow. Please stop offering to pay for her haircut. You should just tell her the dog has fleas.

If I had done what she had done (which I wouldn’t because I don’t use strange combs), I’d have been pretending that I hadn’t. Maybe she was doing it on purpose to try to extort money from you? I don’t know how someone could be that dumb.

This incident is pretty funny if you aren’t the one in the middle of it.

You shouldn’t owe her anything. She came to your house uninvited and then cut her own hair uninvited, even if it was by accident. You shouldn’t pay for her stupidity. She needs to be responsible for her own actions and this was entirely her own action.

If she tried to sue this would at most be a small claims case and there is no reason to assume you owe her anything. Hopefully the boyfriend didn’t offer the $50 because with that in writing maybe you would owe that much.

Put up the dog brush where it can’t be found and taken so that if you go to small claims you can show it off and everyone can see that it clearly is meant for a dog. I’d also take a picture of it where it normally sits so anyone can see that it wasn’t put in a place that you might expect a person to find it and use it.

I’d be tempted to tell her boyfriend that although he is still welcome in your home she isn’t.

I’d relish her taking me to small claims court so I could watch her be laughed out. Then I’d counter sue her for the day you took off work for frivolous lawsuit.

Agreed, but it won’t go there. That’s why I suggested that you need to get out in front of this with the circle of friends. You need to control the narrative here:
She grabbed a random brush – weird!
She brushed her hair – ooops!
You tried to offer her some kind of compensation -Nice!
She escalated and made outrageous demands! -BAD!
You upped your offer – Nice!
She went off the rails! – Super Bad!
You are walking away shaking your damn head – Reasonable!

Don’t let the gossip chain control this – get those who were there to tell you what they saw. Comment on what you tried to do to make amends and her crazy ass response.
