    If I look right now, I know I’ll feel bad. I’d rather focus on how my clothes are fitting. Maybe in a few weeks I’ll be in a better mental space and see what’s up with my weight. Like a lot of people, I always claim weight loss is my goal, but that’s not actually true. I want to lean out/slim down, I want getting dressed for events not to be anxiety-inducing anymore.

    Like I remember a couple years ago, when I was running and lifting, a friend of mine who was several inches taller was doing WW and a cardio bunny, and she insisted my scale had to be wrong because I didn’t look 135 or whatever, and how could I possibly 10 lbs less than her when I was so tiny? And I was like, BODY COMP GIRLFRAND! I squat and it shows!

    I mean, I *know* weight actually means very little. Like six-seven years ago, when my workouts were almost exclusively elliptical, I was about 135 lbs. Fast forward a couple years, and I’d started running and lifting weights. My weight was a little lower (barely!), but I was two dress sizes smaller. I’m fine with the number I see on a scale, even a “high” (for me) one, when I feel good about my appearance/physique. Right now, a lot of my clothes are TIGHT, so the number on the scale will feel like a mindfuck. TL/DR: I avoid the scale altogether when I’m feeling pudgy, even though I know it’s not the end all be all, lower weight doesn’t mean better or leaner more fit, and my weight is my weight regardless of whether or not I choose to know it

    @JD
    They say a lot of people bloat and have some GI issues in the first two weeks of Whole30 from the fiber they’re not used to eating. I am experiencing both! I was surprised my pants already feel better, because I still feel bloated. Will probably buy some probiotic pills soon.

    Wooooo gut health!

    Agreed. I do think I need to weigh myself just to know where I’m at, but I know I’m heavier than I’ve been in at least a couple years, and don’t want the number on the scale to be a mindfuck.

    A friend of mine really likes ThredUp for gently used or the occasional NWT clothing. They accept returns. I might look there for shorts for Cape Town cause it’ll be hot and I don’t own many pairs, and don’t really like the ones I own, but it’ll be hot to walk around in pants all day there.

    Today is day 8 of my Whole30. I am wearing the same dress pants I worse last Wednesday and they’re no longer snug af, thank goodness. I know it’s just water weight at this point, but it’s motivating as I head into week two! I think I’ll use these pants as a measure of progress.

    @TheHizzy It’s in the fine print/agreement terms. One of my friends had some kind of shipping issue and RTR charged her as they said they would. She tried to fight it but I don’t recall the outcome. I’ve had really good experiences with their customer service. I pick up dresses at their brick & mortar store and one time accidentally had mine shipped to their NYC store. They overnighted it to Chicago for me at not cost even though it was my error.

    Wait, whaaat!? Had no idea that was an option with RTR! I’ll have to look into that. Might work well since I also want a couple casual dresses for when I’m in Cape Town, which will be very warm next month.

    On the subject of shopping, has anyone seen any cute maxi dresses worthy of a wine country wedding? (Or a shorter dress, for that matter, but for some reason I feel like a long dress this time.)

    ETA: RTR is out for this wedding because I’ll be out of the country for like two weeks, and I believe that exceeds rental periods.

    @veritek So glad it’s going well so far! I almost slid into your DMs on Insta the other to ask. 🙂

    I’ve only tried Stitch Fix a couple times. The first was several years ago, and I was impressed that they found a pair of jeans that fit me just right, and generally liked what they sent, but didn’t end up keeping anything. The last time I did it was probably this spring, and they sent me three nearly identical tops, too, which I found disappointing. (Two were the exact same but one was a solid color and one was a pattern.) I don’t recall what else they sent. I would’ve been pretty pissed if I’d been sent something I’d specifically requested they not send me. I’ve been debating doing another fix before my South Africa trip, though. I don’t use them enough to blacklist ’em.

    I’m on day 7 of Whole30 and feeling good! Well, feeling kinda lethargic, but I attribute that more to still feeling under the weather. Thursday & Friday were fairly miserable, but I cannot shake this cold, even after a couple solid nights of sleep this weekend, which is bumming me out cause I wanna hit the gym to get the full benefit of my diet.

    @Rangerchic
    I can do eggs daily only if I vary how I eat them. I like eggs, but they do get boring. Today was a scramble with chicken sausage, some veggies, and avocado. Tomorrow will be fried with breakfast potatoes and pork belly.

    To briefly bring things back to dating: I think I’m going to cancel on BG tonight. I still feel awful, and I’m really tired from not sleeping well. I found out the headache is part of a cold that’s been going around, not diet changes. I feel bad about it — we spent a lot of time together this/last week, but it was a lot of group stuff, and I was looking forward to doing something just the two of us tonight.

    I have zero eye cream recommendations. But if we’re giving and asking for recs at the moment, does anyone have a go-to brand for high-quality women’s t-shirts? I’m looking to add a couple solid tees to my wardrobe — currently don’t even own a plain white t!

    @TheHizzy If you have nice nails, I wouldn’t sweat it. I have nice nails: long nail beds, they can grow long without getting brittle, my cuticles look nice without help, they don’t peel and I don’t bite them, etc. I get compliments on them even when I’m not wearing nail polish or actively trying to get them to look nice. So if you generally have healthy nails, I wouldn’t worry too much. Just file ’em nicely.

    I was years late to the gel manicure party, but I loved it so much it became one of my unnecessary regular expenses. One of my 2019 resolutions is not to do gel unless I have an event coming up.

    My go-to for when I want something neutral on my nails is a light pink. I personally think nude nails are weird. If I were you, I’d probably get a “basic” manicure like Kate said.
