@hfantods Is this a new job? I think jeans can be appropriate office-wear when styled correctly, assuming they’re okay with whatever dress code your office has. I wouldn’t over-think it. I’m never hot once I’m at the office — I’m always freakin’ freezing — and I wear a lot of dresses to work year-round because they’re easy outfits.
I’ve been listening to The Daily on my dog walks every morning and this morning’s episode made me nervous for fall.
A friend invited a few people over to her rooftop patio on Saturday and it was glorious. It was the first time I’ve seen anyone outside of my boyfriend and sister since like February.
My company usually hosts two conferences per year, one in June and one in December. I’m supposed to be in STL for it right now, but instead this year we’re doing everything remote. Thursday, Friday, and Monday will be Zoom meeting after Zoom meeting and I’m curious to see how big of a cluster this is going to be.
@ktfran Did you see Nini’s closed permanently?
I haven’t had many bad grocery shopping experiences. The first weekend that things were getting kinda weird was chaos and there was one grocery trip to a neighborhood grocery store, pre-mask requirement but after other stores had started implementing their own measures, where nobody seemed to be taking any precautions. And it’s a small grocery store with narrow aisles, I kept getting bumped. I mostly shop at Trader Joe’s, which has been requiring masks and limiting capacity. The line moves quickly even when it’s long. I don’t get anxious shopping there.
@Helen Do you know if there has been any spike in cases in GA since they reopened? I’ve seen the numbers, and it looks like no, but have also read conflicting information about whether GA’s reported numbers reported are even accurate. Just curious if you have more intel — it can be hard to gauge what’s going on in other areas.
My haircut is next week and I am pumped!
@Rangerchic I’m sure there are many great hair masks/deep conditioners out there. I use a Kerastase mask every now and again (too lazy to create a real routine out of it) and it works really well. I also use the Aussie three minute miracle deep conditioner maybe a couple times a week.@Fyodor I haven’t really paid attention to what’s going on in Japan or what their strategy for COVID has been, but lived there in middle and high school. Mask usage was already a very common practice there, so I’m sure people were on board with that as a precautionary measure. (Whereas here people throw tantrums over it and take to the internet to compare mask requirements to rape. Errrm…) Also, greetings were very different in Japan — more formal, like bowing, less touching like handshakes and hugging.
My boyfriend and I went to a patio over the weekend and it was fine. Walking around and casually observing, patio dining seems to be kind of a mixed bag. Some restaurants seem to be trying more than others. Some places definitely spaced tables out or seated people every other table, others seemed like a free-for-all. I picked a neighborhood restaurant that seemed to be re-opening cautiously and it was a good experience.
Our HQ (in a different city with a far lower population density than the regional office I work out of) will reopen next month at limited capacity and staggering days in for employees. Still no word on when my office will start re-opening.
Yeah, that video of the old man being shoved to the ground was so fucked up and hard to watch. Just WHY? I feel like I’d have lost my shit if I’d seen that in person. That’s the only recent story I think I’ve seen about an elderly person being attacked, but when stuff like that happens to old people I always think about my grandma.
The place I go to is currently by appointment only. I typically don’t bother making appointments, but right now, when I’m sure there are capacity limits, it makes sense. They have a sign outside asking patrons to please call to set up an appointment, but one woman heading in as I was leaving called while standing outside to make sure they could accommodate a walk-ins. If nothing else, asking people to call minimizes the amount of traffic in and out.
Another nail salon nearby seemed kinda crowded by comparison to mine, but I’m unsure what their policies are and my place was already spacious to begin with. They were relatively new to my area and with their store size and location there’s no way rent is cheap — I was expecting them to go under, tbh.
Just got home from my pedicure. The whole experience felt fine, though they were already very sanitary IMO. Had me wash my hands as soon as I walked in. Masks required for everyone. Nail technicians wore gloves as usual, but they now have face guards and they put up plastic shields at manicure stations and at the front desk. They spaced patrons out. I asked my nail technician if they’d been busy and she said yes, but that she was happy to be back to work.
I haven’t FaceTimed with my mom in a couple weeks, but the last time we did was a high humidity day and you could tell her hair (she keeps it short) was starting to look mullet-ish. We laughed about it. Unsure if she’s gotten a hair cut yet, but she’s in a state that’s more open than we are here, so I assume it’s an option for her at this point. She might feel better waiting a bit. I know my dad is being cautious as they’ve reopened there (he loves eating out but doesn’t want to yet).
Our salons here are open! At mine, it is by appointment only and I’m going this afternoon for a pedicure. I was on the fence about going initially because I’m still trying to be cautious as we reopen and keeping my outings more or less essential but… eh, I’d like a pedicure and I figure they could use the money and a generous tip. I walked by earlier and they seem pretty dead.
ETA: Meant to be more specific. Nail salons are open and I got an email from my wax place that they’re opening next week. I didn’t realize that other types of salons (anything outside of hair places, basically) were also included in our phase three, but it appears to be the case.
