Updates: “Intern Love” Responds
It’s time again for “Dear Wendy Updates,” a feature where people I’ve given advice to in the past let us know whether they followed the advice and how they’re doing today. After the jump, we hear from “Intern Love” whose letter appeared in a shortcuts column when she asked why this guy who she dated for a few weeks while he was in her town for an internship had suddenly seemed to lose interest once he returned home. Keep reading to see whether she’s still hung up on him.
I was so torn up over that guy. You were correct when you said to stop driving myself insane. I was driving myself insane with questions and guilt and pain — over someone I knew for only a month and a half!! I am not proud of what came over me for him, but I think it is because the passion and desire was so intense. I had never had a relationship like that. Nor do I want one again. I am happy to report that I am over him and happy once again. Soon after I wrote the letter to you I got myself together. I felt like I learned from the relationship about what I was missing from my life and that I wanted a true and steady boyfriend, one whom I could eventually marry and deeply love. So, I created a eHarmony profile and about a month in to it I met a great guy. He is my boyfriend now and he lives in my area. We have a great relationship that is growing at a normal pace. Thank you for telling me to MOA and to stop driving myself insane! — Intern love no more
Glad to hear things are going well. Sometimes people just need to hear someone else say it’s time to MOA!
If you’re someone I’ve given advice to in the past, I’d love to hear from you, too. Email me at [email protected] with a link to the original post, and let me know whether you followed the advice and how you’re doing now.
Dating can be such a roller coaster! And it can be so confusing and painful to have strong feelings for someone who doesn’t reciprocate. I think the most important thing that experience in dating teaches you is to not take things personally all the time and focus on people who treat you with respect. But these are hard lessons for everyone to learn. Good for you LW!
YAY for eHarmony!! Congrats to you for being able to move past an unhealthy relationship and take the leap into one that fits you more.
Dating someone in the same area code is always the best situation.
I met my husband on eharmony! Love it!
yay for updates!
I wish more LW’s would update 🙁
Good for her! She may have felt crazy, but there are crazier ladies (and gents) out there, as evidenced by the following:
Insane woman won’t stop texting after one date:
Other overzealous woman tattoos a dude’s face on her arm after one week of dating:
Also, dating sites are great, if you can get past the few creepy dudes. That’s how I met my fiance (only one more week!). And he’s only a tiny bit creepy. 😉
Hi everyone,
LW here. Thanks for the nice comments. It feels good to have moved on from the experience and bring my hard learned lessons to my life.
