I just heard of my first tinder engagement too. My friend played the hard game, she never let her tinder dates even hold her hand until about date 3 so nobody got the impression a hookup was on the table. It worked really well for her obviously and I just love her fiance, he’s a great guy.

I don’t think whether you pay for the services or not makes much of a difference. Frogs (both men and women) will go anywhere. Just depends on your bullshit detector and whether it’s working properly.
KateNovember 6, 2015 at 6:17 am #393128Of course there are time-wasters and bullshit everywhere, but I think it makes sense to be on a few sites / apps, one of which is paid. I don’t know about eHarmony, tried it once and hated it, but I think Match has a huge subscriber base of people looking for relationships. And less sketchy people who don’t want a credit card statement, people who just want validation and aren’t ready to date, and those only interested in hookups. If you really want to find a serious relationship or marriage, only being on Tinder doesn’t seem like a great strategy.
Oh I’d never say not to use a “pay” site. I usually have one of each being either match and okcupid or match and tinder. Since I’m “dating” Tinder Teacher right now, I do still have a profile on okcupid and tinder but no paid site right now. If things don’t work out with TT I’ll probably reactivate Match.
But yeah, I’ve run into people on match paying for a subscription that just wanted a hookup or a booty call or were just time wasters. Kate’s right – it’s everywhere.
KNovember 6, 2015 at 12:50 pm #393184I didn’t have good results with eHarmony, I think because I didn’t expand my radius enough. If I had expanded it further it would’ve included NYC, but I wasn’t really looking to date someone 90 minutes away. There weren’t many guys in my area using eHarmony apparently. I did meet an ex through Match and I know of a couple of Match marriages so I’d say to go with that one if you’re going to go with a paid site. I did like OkCupid though. And of course I met my boyfriend through a Meetup group, and most of them are free 😉
