Good, ver! I also think the ball is a good idea. I was supposed to go to the Navy Ball in college with a guy I was sort of dating, but he got sick and didn’t go. I remember being really disappointed. Then I was supposed to visit him in Hawaii once he got stationed there, and go to a ball there, but that fell through. To this day wish I had experienced a military ball. It just seems cool.
Yay! Step outside of your comfort zone and have a fun evening!!!! If I were in your shoes, I’d go.
As an aside and type… After my sister and brother in law met the guy, my sister told me he was not what they were expecting. The brother in law assumed he’d be a hipster. The sister assumed he’s be pretty, as in, extremely well dressed with perfect hair and fit, etc. The funny thing is, I’ve never dated a dude like either of those. Ever. And even though he’s not the blonde hair, blue eyed dudes I usually go for… he does have personality traits I admire, such as wit, kindness and intelligence.
So, as far as outer appearance goes, I say most are equal opportunity. Be more concerned with inherent traits and values that match yours.
December 8, 2015 at 9:54 am #401931yay!! I am so glad you are going to go to the ball. I agree it doesn’t have to mean or signify anything to his friends that you are girlfriend status, a lot of my friends have gone to those balls with people they are sort of friends with/just getting to know or date or whatever.
Also, what a fun excuse to dress up! I agree with @Kate, I love doing that stuff and really don’t get an opportunity. I have one cocktail party this holiday season and am trying to find the perfect dress. I found a great 1940s vintage one on etsy but am nervous of the fit. I have also been looking at Rent the Runway but the shipping adds a lot of $$. Anyways have fun 🙂
Also congrats @Kare on passing the PMP!!!
I’m glad you decided to go to the ball and are trying to cut down your work shift so you won’t be as tired!
I actually forgot about this until now, but my boyfriend and I started dating because he asked me to his engineering formal because he needed a date. I agreed to go as a ‘friend date’…..but in the two months between the ask and the formal, it turned into a FWB date, which then eventually turned into a relationship. But going as his non-girlfriend date was really fun. Most people are there to socialize with their pals and have fun. The assumption (at least for the formal) wasn’t that dates were girlfriends or boyfriends.
@mucha- do you have a good tailor? I good tailor can do wonders to alter the fit of a garment
@Kare, congrats on passing your PMP. I hope you celebrated with lots of vodkaDecember 8, 2015 at 9:46 pm #402041Yay!! Have lots of fun and be glamerous!
One of my ex’s co-workers brought her ex as a date (and that was her current ex not NOW ex)…so really no pressure haha
okay I’m embracing the fun part of this – want to help me pick a dress??

December 9, 2015 at 10:22 am #402128I love the green sparkly…don’t you have red hair? That would be amazing. My little sister has gorgeous deep red hair and fair skin and that color is insane on her.
