@jlyfish Eek! Where do you live!? I’m in Chicago, and foster for Alive! Haha. Alive is part of CRISP, which is some kind of coalition of shelters/rescues. I’m not sure the extent of what CRISP does, but they go to Chicago Animal Care and Control and take adoptable animals outta there, put them into foster, get them to a vet, etc. A lot of them seem to be owner surrenders. My foster dog was a CRISP rescue, and so was the one I fell in love with over the weekend. When I mentioned above that I felt like I need to go to the city pound to intercept the do-gooders, I was referring to CRISP! The Alive events do seem like fun, but I always feel intimidated to go to things like that alone.
jlyfshJune 21, 2017 at 5:12 am #691328That’s awesome! I’m in South Carolina. Love Like Roo donated a care package to my dog when she was diagnosed which is why I started following them and seeing all the fun things they do. I wish I was actually close enough to go. I’ll have to look and see if I can find the moppy dog. I mostly see pictures of the sick/terminal dogs they help through the foundation :/ I need to look at the happy stories too.
Oh, nice! Alive is pretty small and depends on a strong network of volunteers to do what it does, so that’s super cool that it’s reach is pretty wide. If you see pictures of a beautiful cat named Biscotti on Alive’s social media presence, that’s my foster kitty. 🙂 She is so cute and sweet, I have no clue why nobody wants her! Love Like Roo sounds familiar, I’ll have to look into it.
They have an axe throwing event tomorrow for Alive and if I didn’t have a therapy appointment, I’d be all over it. (I have another axe-throwing event next week, though, so luckily I’ll get to throw some weapons around soon. :-P)
@Copa – Wait wait wait, you get to throw axes? Man I wish Mid Missouri had stuff like that lol.
Also, I hope you get a good pupper soon. I spent $200 at the vet last week (I know that’s so little compared to what others have shelled out, I’ve been lucky to have such healthy animals), got my senior dog on a daily prescription and also learned that dog diapers are about as expensive as children’s diapers! Fun fact. He’s worth it though.
I’m so excited to throw axes! Next week’s event is with my alma mater’s local alumni association chapter. I only go to their events occasionally, and usually try to drag someone along with me, but was so pumped to throw sharp objects that I bravely signed up all by my onesies! Because AXE THROWING! I get so much satisfaction in dropping heavy barbells at my gym, so I anticipate I’ll love hurling weapons. How medieval of me!
And yeah, I understand that pets come with unanticipated expenses, but feel like I’m in good enough financial shape that it shouldn’t be a huge problem. (And thanks for the heads up about pet insurance, which I would’ve not thought about on my own!)
@Copa OMG that sounds soooooo fun! I’ve taking a knife throwing class (I was best with the really large, butcher sized knives) and actually have a small set of throwing knives (an inside joke in my family for white elephant at Christmas, after the year that someone brought a machete and we all took turns throwing it). I can’t wait to bust them out at a BBQ, really fun!
No updates from me, just a ton of travel. I’ll be in LA for work next week so I’m extending for the holiday and going up to Pebble Beach/Carmel with my brother and his gf who live in LA. Then the following weekend going to Montreal for a bachelorette party. BF is in the middle of job interviews for a position I am really thinking he may get, which would be great.
