I don’t mean this to be a brag but here it goes anyway – with regard to being desperate.
I was desperate. Totally. Knew it at the time and know it now, so I get the feeling. And I mean this as encouragement not “look at me and what I have, so here goes.”Last year I took a dating break from pretty much March to July – partially because my father almost died three times and I practically lived at the hospital with him. When I did go on my first date with MofV, I wasn’t super impressed – but there was just something about him so I kept going on dates. Now? I cant imagine my life without him. For the first time in my life I’m in a functional, non drama filled, fun healthy relationship. He texts me without fail each morning to make sure I got to work safely. We see each other almost every single weekend. He loves my pets, which can be challenging for me some days. He supports me going back to school and trying to figure out what to do with my career in the next few years and he’s just a good friend to listen and talk to. We had our first “fight” after six months and it was about which street to turn on in an unfamiliar city while we were on a getaway together, so I’d say we’re doing pretty good compared to all of my other relationship.
I’m not calling myself a success story just yet, but I sure hope to keep him in my life for a long, long time. And I had reached a point where I *NEVER* thought I’d have what I have now. And I know that pain of being single and sad and “desperate” and making poor dating choices. Just have faith that maybe you’ll meet someone like my guy that is good for you. Dating sucks until it doesn’t.
As for trips, I’m paying off debt like a mad woman (paid off a loan and credit card yesterday and it feels sooooo good) to finally get down to just house and car payments so no big trips planned. We might do a few road trips or camping trips. I’m taking my mom and her bestie to Oklahoma in October to visit the Pioneer Woman mercantile and boarding house. It’ll be very cheesy but Mom has earned a weekend away with her BFF and me.
I’m glad everyone is doing well and know that I’m always sending good thoughts your way.
Croatia is super high on my list!
We’re going on a cruise in June. Leave from San Juan and go to Aruba, Curacao, St. Thomas and St. Martin (I think). I’m not a cruise person, but the husband’s uncle wanted to take the family and he booked us all the presidential suite. We have a hot tub on our balcony! Anyway. I told them one of the days, I’m taking a “me” day.
May 2, 2018 at 1:24 pm #751681I’m not a cruise person either, but wow, the presidential suite with a private hot tub sounds lovely!
And YAY Veritek!!! You sound so healthy and happy.
Copa, if you have time when you’re in SF, we should meet up and discuss our experiences dating tech workers and lawyers, haha. 😀KMay 2, 2018 at 1:53 pm #751683@Materials Girl, thanks, I will check out Croatia! It looks like the airfare is higher than we’d like to pay – part of the reason we’re looking at Italy and Switzerland is that flights at the end of September/beginning of October are $450/person or less, for Rome and Zurich! But I haven’t really done any research at all on Croatia so I will certainly look into it. I’ve heard other people mention it being a beautiful country.
@veritek33, so happy for you!!
@ktfran, a presidential suite on a cruise sounds amazing! When I was 12 I went on a cruise that left San Juan and went to St. Thomas, St. Martin, Barbados, Dominica, and Martinique. It was great. I highly recommend taking the ferry to St. John from St. Thomas – we were only there one day (like 9 am to 5 pm) and still had time to do that. St. John is gorgeous. Would like to go back to those islands as an adult.That’s what sold me… our rooms! Some of my engineer… 🙂 friends love traveling to St. John’s. Thanks for the tip @k.
Oh, and @Kate, my friend and I are taking a trip to your Cancun resort this fall! Both our husband’s do fall trips with their friends, so this is ours.
KateMay 2, 2018 at 2:53 pm #751695Oh yeah, we loved that one! We were there for Thanksgiving and they did this big show that started with a guy playing Saxaphone while riding a huge top-hatted turkey in the pool. And we had this patio right on the ocean that had a hammock on it. Plus it’s adults-only. You’ll like it.
May 2, 2018 at 3:02 pm #751699good call, kate! yeah that’s a really great way to do the best of both worlds.
I was just in Zurich for work again. always so pretty and sleepy 🙂
shakeourtreeMay 2, 2018 at 3:04 pm #751702Speaking of trips, I’m going to have some time off in August to travel. I have one trip planned to visit friends in Chicago for Labor Day weekend, but I’m also looking to book another, solo trip earlier in the month. I’m looking at somewhere in the U.S., not too expensive to fly from the East Coast. I have a few ideas, but I’d love to hear your suggestions too. I haven’t done a ton of solo traveling either, so I’d like your tips on that too.
