3 hours between is a bit much. I’ve seen it happen on 4 weddings. I mean, what are you supposed to do all dressed up and waiting around?

That’s bad planning. I feel like no one over 36 would do that but maybe that’s stereotypical.

Unfortunately the wait time is typical with church weddings. Most people who have church weddings also want a typical evening reception. Annoying, yes, but there is no way to get around it. Churches don’t cancel Saturday evening masses so people can have later weddings.

Really? I’ve been to a number of Catholic weddings before and don’t remember that happening. Like an afternoon mass followed by reception from 5-11?

But oh, I’m going to this real religious guy’s wedding the weekend after TG, and I hope he doesn’t do that. Though it’s in L.A., so I might not mind hanging around outside.

Yeah. That’s super prevalent in the Midwest. Like a 1:00 or 2:00 wedding and then a 5:00 or 5:30 reception. I’ve actually never been to a church (mostly Catholic) wedding that wasn’t like that. Maybe it’s a Midwest thing?

Maybe, in Boston they probably accommodate all the Irish drinkers.

Weird, I have only been to Catholic weddings and they never had the wait.

A friend of mine was planning a ceremony at a church in one town at like 1pm and then a reception at 7pm in another town (this was on Long Island). I’d initially been planning to go (would have to fly in), but then realized that not only would I have to rent a car, but then I’d have to apparently occupy myself for many hours basically in the middle of nowhere. I decided not to go.

Then when I got the actual invitation, she’d rearranged the time and locations to be much more convenient, but hadn’t bothered to update the Save the Dates, so it was too late to book a flight.

My entire family is Catholic and I’ve never been to a Catholic wedding that wasn’t at 1:00 in the afternoon and then an evening reception. Even in Chicago! And Kansas City. And St. Louis.

Yeah I’ve been to a few Catholic weddings with a few hours between ceremony and reception (also all in the Midwest). In one case, it was a mile (or maybe 2) between the ceremony and reception and there were some bars on the way, so we ended up doing an impromptu bar crawl between the ceremony and the reception. We were pretty liquored up by the time the reception started…
