Agreed that I think a brunch wedding sounds fun! If I were getting married in the foreseeable future I think I’d do a city hall wedding (or some alternative that’s still a very tiny reception) followed by brunch or lunch with immediate family and/or an informal evening “reception” to open it up to more than just immediate family.
ETA: OR a destination wedding that would be small by default, or legit eloping.
The winery across the street from the brewery where we had our first date offers a brunch wedding package for a really reasonable price and when I told MofV about it his first words were “Kegs and eggs hell yes.” Sooooo… I think he’s on board. Though I think it’ll be mimosas and eggs but whatever floats his boat.
You could potentially save a lot of $. Brunch food is typically cheaper. In lieu of a DJ or band, break out an Ipod or spotify or however you stream and set up a couple of speakers. Impromptu dancing, even in the middle of the day, is always fun. If you do it at a restaurant instead of a reception hall, you might not even have to worry about too many decorations… let the space speak for itself. You wouldn’t even have to necessarily have a traditional wedding cake. We actually went to a super good bakery in town and had them make three different kinds of cakes. One said “I do”, the other had our wedding date and then the final had our initials made from gold wire with a heart between them (etsy). I think our cake costs were like $120. Maybe with the etsy purchase, $140.
The one thing we did spend money on is a photographer. We hired someone who specialized in candid shots. She was like, I don’t really take posed shots. That’s exactly what we wanted.
March 29, 2019 at 1:17 pm #839226We did that! We had a courthouse wedding with only a few friends, and then had a few more meet us at a “private event” long brunch into lunch at our favorite restaurant. It was really fun. They made a special menu for our party with all of our favorites. Much champagne was had and I definitely took a wedding nap.
I just love breakfast foods and the idea of taking a nap that afternoon and then going out with some friends winery hopping that night. Ktfran – MofV’s good friend actually is a baker and we plan to have her do a small cake and then some cookies! And a very dear, sweet friend of mine has offered to do the photography for free. She’s an amazing photographer and said that would be her gift to us. I said I would pay her anyway and she said she would give the money right back. Her wedding photography starts at around 4k so, that will save a huge chunk of change.
Ring has been picked out and paid for btw – he’s just trying to surprise me at this point but we figured we could plan a bit for fun.

I went to a bunch wedding like 2 years ago. It was a blast but they didn’t have enough food! It was a 2 pm reception I think? It only lasted until 4. I got into the reception hall at 2:15 after getting dismissed from the church and all the food was gone. It also wasn’t explained as “light refreshments” or anything. They got engaged in December and married in March so it was all done pretty quickly.Work has been bonkers this week. TGIF you guys. T. G. Mother fucking. I. F.
March 29, 2019 at 3:58 pm #839235@Veritek33 a brunch wedding would be fun! I personally love breakfast and brunch meals, so that is something to think about haha So exciting though! The anticipating of that moment he chooses would kill me though, hence why I am low key for future engagement that it would be a verbal agreement, get the ring(s) and be done with it!
After having attended a few wedding last year with my BF (and looks like again this year for us), I asked him what kind of wedding, if any at all, he would want (not with me, just in general). He stated that he would want something similar to his friends wedding that happened last year. It was a 60 person intimate wedding, with a short and sweet ceremony, and then a fun dance party and dinner after. Whereas myself a civil ceremony at a city hall would be my choice, but have always maintained that if the other person wants more I would be flexible.
We personally haven’t talked about marriage directly between us, some fleeting comments have been made about rings etc, he knows my ideal gem (amethyst). But there is so much happening in the next couple years that marriage hasn’t been on my short term thoughts, and I don’t have a timeline for it mainly since it isn’t a necessity for me personally. I have been thinking more lately on what he wants because I will be going to school in the fall, and still not sure if he is coming with me to live (depends on his work situation). Then after that…not sure. They are more like long term timelines I don’t know, and I want to know where he sits on them so I know I am not left to hang. Although I know we wouldn’t do that, I want clarity, assurance and confidence there really is long term potential with us.
