Glad things are sorting themselves out, @TheHizzy. That’s scary about lash extensions! I’ve looked into them before and the only thing that deterred me before was the cost, but I can add swollen shut eyes to the list! Was the cat supposed to be going to the wedding, or did I not understand that last bit at all? Ha.
@MissD How are things with you? You haven’t updated us in awhile! My bday was over the weekend and I had such a great birthday date with BG. We went to a cooking class, which is something I loved, then went out for fancy cocktails. The second bar we went to is a popular speakeasy-style bar here and always has a line, but it moves fast. By this point the temps had dropped and it was cold, so we were hugging in line and a group at a restaurant across the street started singing happy birthday to someone in their group, and BG sang it with them but quietly to me. And I was so happy (and a bit drunk, ha) that I started tearing up. Which sounds so cheesy. I’ve had some super fun birthdays, but it was really nice to have a partner to make me feel special this year. Saw some family the next day (BG couldn’t come) and they started peppering me with questions about marriage and all that. Which got kind of weird, and I’m not sure how to field those questions, but eh, not too worried.
Hope you DW-er daters also had a fun weekend!
TheHizzyJune 3, 2019 at 3:16 pm #844618My cat was going to travel up with us for the wedding. We’ll be gone for about 10 days. He’s about 12 now and has been showing his aging and I didn’t want to over stress him. It really does break my heart to have to leave him.

Happy birthday copa!!! Aw that is so sweet.
Just about birthdays, 1) My bf only has two more of his “two weeks on, two weeks off” thing! 2) he was supposed to leave two days before my birthday in August for one session. I’m pretty easy going about birthdays but I was a little disappointed since it’s my 30th (!). However work is work. He then managed to arrange it to leave a couple days after my birthday. Totally unnecessary but sweet. I think I will still have a celebration with friends the weekend before; just awkward because it’s not the closest weekend to my birthday.
And on dating and stuff, 3) we are going on our first flight together this week. Visiting you Americans’ fine city of Boston. Just 4 days 5 nights. I’m excited and a little nervous! Would also love any of your recommendations.
Hope you and your family/town are doing well Ver.
Glad your lash extensions are fixed Hizzy! Omg that is scary.
@Copa things are really good here but nothing exciting to share. I feel pretty settled in here. I can’t believe it’s been 10 months already!!
I love our neighbourhood! I love our flat. My mom is coming to visit me in September so I’m starting to get really really excited about that!
I’m still working hard at starting my own business, which is actually a lot harder than I thought, to be honest. But I’m still going!
TheHizzyJune 4, 2019 at 8:35 am #844649@MissD it’s so crazy that 10 months has gone be so fast already! What has been the hardest part of adjust to a new country and adjusting to full time relationship?
For me, adjusting to a full time relationship after only doing a LDR was learning to balance my time and helping FMH feel included.
Everything has felt pretty smooth, to be honest. Nothing about it has felt like a difficult transition.
I do miss my mom a lot and I felt pretty homesick around Thanksgiving… but I was able to find pumpkin puree in the “American” aisle at the grocery store so I made a pumpkin pie anyway.
I also really miss dill pickles and coffee cream hahaha. But I’ve gotten used to drinking my coffee with milk now.
Living with my boyfriend has been really great!
He’s ridiculously messy, but I was well aware of that before I moved in. I kind of feel like I’m always tidying up after a messy toddler and I nag him a bit to make more of an effort to pick up after himself.
But at the same time… he does so much else for me and for us. He actually feels like my partner, like we’re a team! So it has been really nice just being together and creating a home together.
He has been really supportive of my business as well, even though I’m not profitable yet.
He also travels for work about once a month. So I still get enough “alone time” which I enjoy. He’s usually gone about 5 days at a time, which is perfect. It’s enough time for me to enjoy having the bed to myself, but not so long that I really start missing him (once he was gone for 16 days… that sucked and I missed him a lot).
Everything here feels pretty good! I just wish I could teleport (or apparate?) so I could see my mom more often.
Yes! I don’t think she has travelled beyond her own province in about 25 years… so this is a bit scary for her! My brother is helping her apply for a passport and I’m helping her book a flight that will avoid the big airports.
I’m super excited to show her my new city!
@Hizzy you look great, hope the wedding goes off without any more issues!
Copa – happy birthday and it sounds like you had a lovely time 🙂
MissD – it feels like you just wrote about moving and it’s been 10 months?! Wow.
In our neck of the woods – we chose a wedding venue 🙂 Now we have to choose between French toast and biscuits and gravy for the brunch and quite frankly I hope that’s the hardest decision we have to make!
@Copa – down on one knee formally? No, but we have a ring (that is currently being sized), a date, a venue, a dress and a wedding party picked out so it was a joint decision lol.
The easiest part was picking bacon as our meat, everything else has been so much harder haha. But mimosas were a non-negotiable 🙂
