Happy Threadaversary! It’s great to see how things have evolved over time. I’ve been an old married lady forever, so I don’t have any stories, but I’ve loved reading it! For those whose dating journeys are chronicled, if there’s some way to download and preserve it for your kids and grandkids and on and on, that’s be such an awesome thing to have. Snapshots of grandma or mom at my age going through the same things without the filter – I would love it!
July 27, 2022 at 2:45 pm #1112711@Ver – I can’t believe you baby is already 16th months! How time flies.
I’m looking into a weekend trip mid-August for me and the hubs. But everyplace I check is just so expensive for lodging right now. I was wanting to stay within a four hour drive – so more time for fun. IDk if I’ll find a place or if we will do an extended weekend at home – with maybe a day trip to Denver.
Happy belated threadaversary!! The two years I was dating felt like eons but I can’t believe I’ve dated my hubs for five years!
Also, as is the oft OT of this thread, what kind of brush do you use? I’ve just been using a wide tooth comb to get out large knots but I realize a brush might be good for smoothing.
So I’ve decided very recently to try giving natural hair looks another go. I’m just… so bored of always styling it. The time, the effort. I’m active and I run, so I can’t go more than like two days between washes, not to mention the heat + humidity lately. But anyway, I recently got a wet brush to detangle my hair in the shower and after, and that’s actually been nice even on days where I heat style. Other than that, just a ConAir paddle brush. I have to have sturdy bristles because my hair is thick and coarse. (Last summer a cousin lent me her brush when I stayed at her place. She has very fine, thin hair. It did absolutely nothing for me. Like didn’t even seem to be able to penetrate the strands?)
ETA: On my laziest of lazy heat styling days, I’ll at a minimum paddle brush my hair straight with a blow drier. If my hair didn’t puff up when I do this, it’d be a relatively fast and quick way to get smooth, straight hair.

Miss MJAugust 4, 2022 at 8:46 am #1112799I have long, thick but fine hair that defaults to sort of wavy when I air dry it and I basically stopped heat styling during Covid. Now that things have opened back up, I default to pulling it back probably 90% of the time I have to look polished, as opposed to heat styling. (It’s soooo much healthier now! And I save so. much. time!) I use a wide toothed comb in the shower when I wash it (which isn’t necessarily daily) and comb with conditioner in, then put in a leave in treatment once I’m out and comb it again. Once it’s dry, I have a hard bristle brush I’ll use to smooth it out where needed. I also use that brush when I heat style. For my hair type, it works well.
I think I’ll try a Wet Brush!
I splurged and got the vitamin c from La Roche Posay. I liked the sample I had of it (felt like it brightened my skin) but went for The Ordinary. The latter was fine but I didn’t think it did too much. la Roche Posay also has hyaluronic acid

@MissMJ What leave-in treatment do you use? My hair sounds similar-ish. At least the thick head of fine hair part with some waves. A friend recommended the JVN curl cream to me as a leave-in they like as I go on my natural hair journey. Though my hair takes about four hours to dry completely sooo not sure I’m actually saving any time.
@hfantods I know I sound obsessed with Dr. Sherene, the derm I yap about all the time on here, but highly recommend watching her video about Vitamin C. She breaks down the active and inactive forms of vitamin C available, the benefits of each kind, what might work for you given skin type/concerns, and recommends products at various price points. She’s @pillowtalkderm, you can find the vid through her website or on youtube.- This reply was modified 2 years, 3 months ago by Copa.
Miss MJAugust 5, 2022 at 8:32 am #1112811It’s Aveda botanical repair. I use the shampoo and conditioner, too. It sounds kind of weird, but when I started using it, I thought that it makes my hair feel like it did when I was a little kid – that soft, unprocessed feeling. (And I dye my hair regularly to cover the gray, so even without the same level of heat styling, my hair is definitely not unprocessed.)
Super random, but for anyone who enjoys ridiculous wedding drama — there used to be a lot of wedding-related letters on this site! — a friend recently introduced me to the podcast Normal Gossip and this episode about sorority sisters and weddings had me laughing out loud: https://open.spotify.com/episode/6eRWpCtpNBS2iOWWvkCT0z?si=5031b46d563a416f. (For anyone who doesn’t have Spotify, season 1 episode 5.)
I know I need to stop comparing myself with people but I did feel self conscious getting married at 33 (technically 32 but my 33rd year). Now I know of 7 of my peers/friends who got married at 33 this year. I guess just anecdotally people in my circle (city, university degree) are getting married older and there’s no “normal”. Also maybe this was impacted by the pandemic.
