Alright, I need to try this product that doesn’t rub off from a mask! I mask up for public transit and the Slip Tint (my go-to these days) does rub off.
Today I’m wearing real foundation, which I almost never do anymore. I joined the board of a literacy nonprofit last year and today is the first in-person meeting since pre-COVID. I’m going straight from work, so used a product that I know has better staying power.
Not makeup related, but I finally decided on some goals for the new year! I want to do one new thing every month in my city that isn’t food- or drink-centered. I kinda miss being new in a city and this feels like the next best thing to blowing my whole life up and moving, haha. I have Monday off so I’m planning to do my January excursion then. The museum I wanted to go to will be closed, so I might start basic af with the Sears Tower. I know there’s a sizable Chicago-based readership of this site, so I’m open to suggestions if anyone has any. I’m also setting mini monthly goals. This month, I just wanna hit the step goal assigned to me by my watch everyday since it’s so easy for me to fall into a little seasonal depression hole in January.
Is MSI open on Monday? I babysat my niece on Saturday while my sis, BIL and nephew went to the Lego exhibit. It looked pretty cool! The exhibit is over on the 16th. That’s actually a neighborhood I haven’t explored (Hyde Park), so told the husband I’d like to this year.
I know you said not food or drink related, but this is music related. Dying to go to the Salt Shed, the fairly new concert venue at the old Morton Salt factory.
My main 2023 goal is to waste less. I already failed last week when I accidentally left the pot of soup I made out overnight. My fave soup. That I had to throw away. SO SAD. Here’s to hoping I get it together soon!
P.S. I’m super excited for this weekend. I’m taking off Friday for my B-day. I have a body scrub, massage and facial scheduled. My actual birthday is Saturday. I booked us a spot at After, Curtis Duffy’s new bar. I love him and am super excited.
Food/drinks can be included, I just don’t want it to be the focus since I already take full advantage of our food/drink scene. Ha! (Over the weekend, I described myself as being in my speakeasy era. LOL.) Current ideas include visiting museums I haven’t been to, exploring a new neighborhood, the symphony, a concert or movie at Millennium Park. There’s a Japanese garden I’d like to visit in Hyde Park this spring.
I wanted to go to MCA and eat at their restaurant Marisol after, but neither is open on Mondays. I have the day off but the BF does not… wherever I end up, I’m excited to take myself out on a date.
Ooh, the symphony! I want to go when they’re scoring a movie. In late spring 2020, they were going to do Jurassic Park, and I wanted to go so badly. I hope they consider doing that movie again. They’ve done Jaws, Home Alone, and this Friday they’re doing the first Harry Potter movie.
We want to see Jurassic Park at the symphony if possible! The SF Symphony just scored it and some of my family in the Bay Area went, said it was super fun.
Also meant to add to the beauty convo: Rare Beauty. I have the cream blush in two colors and they have become my go-to. I’d heard great things about the liquid blush specifically, but figured I’d start with a cream product. I’d try other products from that brand based on the blush.
Ooh that’s a great idea @copa! We are going to a cooking class tonight. It was our Christmas present to each other. We rarely do dates on weeknights so it is nice. Two speakeasies opened up in the last month. Haven’t been to either but I guess they are very popular!
I recently go the Rare Beauty liquid blush and bronzer. I like it. A little goes a long way!
Other beauty stuff, I got a lash lift for the first time last month. I go back and forth if I want to do it again. It was a weird experience keeping my eyes closed for half an hour. I’m still growing them out so will keep an eye on that because people say their lashes grow back wonky.
Happy early birthday @ktfran!
Does anyone have any makeup brush recs for applying cream and liquid products? I use a Beauty Blender for most things, but think I’d prefer brushes for liquid/cream blushes.
@hfantods Do you like the results of your lash lift? I’ve thought about doing a lash lift and tint in the summer months before, when I’m more likely to be doing outdoor activities where I don’t want to wear mascara but still want my lashes to have that look to them. My lashes are long but they’re not very dark, so mascara makes a huge difference.- This reply was modified 1 year, 10 months ago by Copa.
@copa, I use https://www.sephora.com/ca/en/product/sephora-collection-blush-brush-P479459 it’s fine.
I have straight lashes so the lash lift def added a curl. It included a tint which I don’t think did much for my dark lashes. I think that might be worth it for you. I still “needed” volume and used non waterproof mascara some days. I liked that since my lashes held a curl the mascara didn’t smudge as much, a problem for me. I guess for me it was pretty subtle. But I’ll see when they grow how much lashes are stick straight again haha.
Thanks, @hfantods! Do report back as they grow out if you’re able.
I’m a week out from my Botox and filler and I’m pleased with the results. I still have control over my eyebrows and forehead. Those muscles feel relaxed, not paralyzed, and I find I’m less inclined to raise my eyebrows in moments I would’ve done so unconsciously (e.g., when I apply mascara). I had minimal swelling for a day or so after filler. No bruising. My under eyes look way better to me, though I think the difference is subtle. I still have some hollowness (per the derm, totally flat under eyes will never be in the cards for me because of my facial structure), but I can tell a real difference in the darkness. I’m happy with subtle results and at this point don’t think I’d do more.
