I like the color theory stuff. I almost bought the eighties book, Kate. Like the original Kevyn Aucoin book, I think it is just timeless in a way.
The color theory confuses me, and I’m an artist and have spent decades of my life staring at color… ha.

I love mustard yellow. That’s one of my happy colors. My friend gave me this amazing vintage LL Bean wool jacket in mustard yellow…it thrills me when I can get a chance to wear it.

I did it through House of Colour! I went to the stylist in Lincoln Park, Beth, but she is in the process of moving out of her home studio and into a space above a boutique that happens to be right around the corner from me. Actually, the first time I heard about color analysis was through that boutique — I follow them on IG and they were offering sessions there one day at a discount. Turns out, it was the same stylist. I then kept seeing it on TikTok, and she confirmed that while she’s had fairly steady business for the few years she’s been doing this, she’s now so busy that she books out a month or two out. They also show you some makeup (to try to sell you on it), which I mostly wasn’t interested in, but I did end up buying one lipstick.

I feel good in mustard yellow, it’s definitely an autumn color rather than a spring but it’s still warm. My co-worker is Black and has a mustard yellow sweater he looks great in. My most flattering yellow is more bright. Like a daffodil or something.

    Thanks! I’ll look into it.

Yellow is one color that has me perplexed. I can’t do many pale colors, except maybe a peachy orange or a few light pinks. Yellow has to be specific. Maybe a marigold.

A lot of the colors that are popular right now or that I’m seeing in stores are a NO.

Sounds like you’re a warm autumn.

Even figuring out my skin tone is hard for me. The blue veins/green veins thing throws me off. I also use a lot of brow makeup, because without it I appear nude because my brows are blond.

I wear a lot of red, rose, and burgundy. As I sit here in my cozy bed, there is a stack of sweaters my husband folded and it’s all dark warm browns, burgundy, reds and pink.

I’m like you, @Anonymousse. I don’t know that I ever would’ve figured out on my own that I’m on the neutral end of autumn. Part of the process with the stylist is finding your best colors within your season and I noticed that some of the colors I’m already really drawn to are considered my best, like deep teals. I also really like berry colors, but looks like I need to start narrowing in on deep purplish berry colors.

Also, if anyone has any recs for where to buy high quality basics, I’m all ears. I’ve been doing Nuuly for a couple months, but do want/need to invest in some neutral basics.

I’m a fan of Cuyana and Emerson Fry. I get compliments when I where things from both, especially Emerson Fry. The black linen dress I bought there last summer is definitely a winner. Any day now, I should be receiving a pair of navy wide leg linen pants from Cuyana. I’m also obsessed with their silk dress. I own in two colors and wear a lot. My first one I’ve had for over five years now. Their Pima cotton stuff is really nice too.

For affordable basics, I hear people like Quince, but haven’t tried them yet. Was considering ordering a couple of the silk camisoles from there. I love the ones I have from Cuyana, but colors are limited and they’re expensive.

I just bought a very high quality blazer at Rag & Bone that fits like it was tailored and looks extremely sharp.

Their jeans are good too. Actually, Good American has really great-fitting jeans that are good for short ppl.

I was actually going to ask if anyone had tried Quince! LOL. I’ve heard people like them, too, and was on the website this morning and they have machine washable silks in a lot of different styles.

I recently bought a pair of Mother jeans that are meant to be cropped, but a petite blogger I follow said they’re a great regular length for shorter women. They’re still kind of long on me and I’d need to tailor them if I kept them, but otherwise a good jean. Kinda pricey, though, even at the sale price I got. I’ve heard good things about Good American, too.
