We’ve covered belt bags on this thread! I have one and at least in my area, the trend is still going strong. I got it in 2020 and use it all the time. It’s great for dog walks and errands. I have the OG Lululemon one in black like every other basic b. You can also buy nicer ones that aren’t as sporty and I’ve even seen some that are convertible (crossbody to belt bag).
In 2019 I went to Barcelona with my mom and we met up with one of her friends there. Her friend now lives in Andorra and travels often throughout Europe. She had a beautiful leather crossbody bag that converted to a fanny pack-style bag that she’d gotten somewhere in Italy. If you’re worried about it not being timeless (cause let’s be real, the Lulu one is definitely not), you could go for something like that. As an aside, Barcelona is known as the pickpocket capital of the world and plenty of tourists were wearing their backpacks on the front. I’d been pickpocketed in Cape Town earlier that year, so was VERY aware of my bag in Spain. A bag that can be kept close to your body and in the front will always be practical for travel. I spent that trip hoping to find a nice bag like my mom’s friend.

May 31, 2023 at 3:32 pm #1120623So sorry about your mom @MJ. 💜
Hope your results continue to be successful @DW!
I have a crossbody bag from Thread. The things I like: It’s pretty roomy for being small plus has a front pocket for my phone. I hate digging for my phone and it’s easily accessible this way. What I don’t like is the strap. It cuts into my skin if there is bare skin and I’m wearing it all day (like when traveling). Maybe they have a better strap – I haven’t checked but all-in-all I do like it.
I recently got some layers put into my long hair as it was getting too heavy to wear in a ponytail. But I still struggle with the ponytail band…two turns is too loose and three turns gives me a headache. Maybe I need new ties? Anyone have any suggestions? I have a sensitive head so am terrified of getting it all tangled lol.
LisforLeslieMay 31, 2023 at 3:41 pm #1120624@Rangerchic – I have super thin hair.Like I used to get scrunchies at gapkids thin. I use the mini silicon bands. Despite the “no snag” they do snag a little and it’s terribly wasteful – I used one and they hold all day, but sometimes they break when I redo the ponytail or bun – and they stretch out. But they work for me.
Also, if you have enough hair – I can not speak highly enough of the Goody Hair Spin Pin. Two metal spirals, somehow it holds your bun in place, but it doesn’t give you a headache. You need thicker, longer hair. I use the mini-ones when my hair is long enough.
I love Gimme Beauty hair ties. They offer different kinds for different hair types. I have a thick head of fine hair, so I buy both the fine hair and thick hair ones. The fine hair bands, I wear when I want my hair up and tight. They’re my go-to for working out. The thick hair bands, I can’t get quite as tight, but the thickness of the band means my ponytail is very perky/doesn’t droop.
I am intrigued by the Goody Hair Spin Pin. I bought a french pin earlier this year after seeing someone on TikTok use one in her hair. I was like, “Oh, how easy! How elegant!” But no. My hair was waaaay too thick.

May 31, 2023 at 6:46 pm #1120627This is the style of crossbody bag I see probably most frequently in Brooklyn lately.

I think CoJ linked to a ClareV bag when she was in Paris. They’re super expensive. Janelle on her team did a post of different belt bags. In Italy right now and not seeing a lot of those. I’ve been checking out the street style. It’s similar to what I’m seeing in Chicago and New York.
Took a high speed train from Rome to Florence this morning. I truly wish the U.S. had the infrastructure for high speed trains. We’re way too dependent on personal vehicles. Also, happened to run into a coworker at the Florence train station. Heard my name called out. Looked over. And crazy!!!! Another will be in Sorrento at the same time we are, but I knew she’d be here.
Have fun in Italy, @ktfran! I love random run-ins (with people I like) in unexpected corners of the world.
I see the Marc Jacobs “The Tote Bag” around — mostly when I commute to/from the office — and IDK how that became a trend. And that tote can’t be cheap, either. IDK, just not my style, but I see it around enough.
I’m currently panic ordering a bunch of clothes for my trip in a few weeks. I don’t weigh myself, but some of my warmer weather clothes don’t fit me well right now. Things still zip and fit, but I don’t feel comfortable or confident. And, weirdly, others still fit fine or even in a more flattering way? So trying to clean up eating habits over here, though not expecting huge changes between now and my departure. But wanting some items I feel confident in for travel and events. I’ve been doing Nuuly and have three cocktail/formal events this month, so hoping one (or more) of the dresses I ordered fits well enough that I don’t have to buy anything new.
