I’ll check it out @kate. Thanks!! I hadn’t looked in a long while.
I don’t know why that one bag and color is stuck in my head, but it is. The smaller one sounds perfect since I’d mostly use it on a a night out.
Ooh, other splurge item, my MIL gave me her mother’s mink. It’s in mint condition and beautiful. She was going to get rid of it and asked if I wanted it first. Since it’s super old, it’s ok to own/wear out on a special occasion, right?
We wanted to do Japan in 2020, but we all know how that story goes. One of my friends got married in 2019 and had planned to do her honeymoon in Japan in spring 2020. They just went a few weeks ago. I loved looking at her photos! They spent so many meals at high end restaurants that I feel like they missed out. I think my bf thinks I’m kidding when I say my first stop will be for convenience store food.
And yeah, at present I’d not splurge on a designer bag — I don’t value it enough — but would consider a secondhand one. There are a couple high end resale boutiques near my old place that I used to love browsing. I’ve looked on TheRealReal. But haven’t felt compelled to pull the trigger on anything yet.
An ex boyfriend’s mom once gave me a Louis Vuitton bag she didn’t use anymore that I never reached for. I didn’t like the LV monogram pattern (still don’t). It had a short handle that made carrying it awkward. My mom thought it was a wildly inappropriate gift. I think I gave my dad permission to sell it at one point, but I don’t really know what happened to it.
June 5, 2023 at 5:08 pm #1120672Catching up on some of the last ten or so pages of the forum, I really need to go back 50(?) or more but another time.
Copa: what are the dates of your London/Ireland adventure? I’ll be in Ireland the 16-22, then London the 22-25th.
It’s been so lovely in Chicago lately.. tons of walking around and people-watching all the Swifties over the weekend. The boots! The sequins! The beaded bracelets! I dont pretend to understand half of it, but it was fun to see the styles
peggyJune 5, 2023 at 6:56 pm #1120675Wear your mink! The animal has been dead for eons. It is actually more of a natural product than the faux fur manufacturing with chemicals etc., though now innovations and materials are always coming along. At least your fur will used, worn and not discarded. Much warmer too, and longer lasting if you properly care for it than fake stuff.
Also, buy and sell older bags in designer brands. They often accelerate in value. You may get more money when things are trendy, but I ( a vintage vendor since 2007 ) say get what you love. Think of your personal style instead of what is “trendy” and you will gather and wear items that you always use because they suit you. Decide to “rock it” and make it your own. The quality of materials and construction of vintage items is often superior and you can wear and repair them for years and years.I fly out on an overnight flight and will be in Ireland the 21-25, then head to London early on the 26 through the 29. Work is going to kinda rough leaving up to my trip, but it’ll be worth it.
I didn’t see anyone heading to TSwift, but I’m sure that’d be quite the sight. I’m not a Swiftie so had no real desire to try to get tickets, but I’d have gone had one been offered to me at a reasonable price. I’d have had a lot of fun with an outfit. One of my friends is in an LDR, her bf is still is Boston, and they went together there. I guess it was a show where it poured rain and she had to wear a poncho over a blazer she’d spent a lot of time bejeweling herself.
Also! I’ve been doing Invisalign since last October. My teeth have never been super crooked, but I have alignment issues that went unaddressed as a kid that worsened as an adult. Today is my final appointment and I should be able to pick up my retainer in a couple weeks. I’m excited to be done.
I got the Lole belt bag in beige from Costco! It is a Lululemon dupe.
The Shark Flexstyle came in. I was in a rush when I tried the first time. I can see there’s a learning curve but excited to try.
Congrats on making it through Invisalign, @copa!
I do to hope see TSwift if and when she comes to Canada. It will be crazy trying to get tickets.
I’ve been invited to my first Indian wedding! It’s just the night portion. Not sure if I should wear something traditional or if western style is ok. Probably the latter is ok for night. I’ll have to ask the groom who is my friend. Also not sure who is invited from our friends to see what they are wearing!
I’ve had so much fun at the two desi weddings I’ve been to! The most recent one was this past winter at a resort in Mexico. At the ceremony, the processional route to the terrace was past one of the pool areas and it made me LOL that randos in swimsuits were stopping to watch and take pics. If you go the western style route, colorful seems to be the way to go. If you choose to wear something traditional, highly recommend Etsy! I wore this to one of the events and loved wearing it: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1226322658/teal-blue-lehenga-choli-for-women?ref=yr_purchases. (My review is the one from Feb.!) That seller was so fast and so much more affordable than retailers in my city. My only gripe was that I sent them my measurements but it wasn’t quite the right fit, so I still had to get some last minute alterations to make it work.
AngeJune 6, 2023 at 2:40 pm #1122725Oh, the day you get rid of those invisalign things us a good one! Although the retainer isn’t much different tbh lol.
I have an old sport backpack for work but it’s a bit clunky for my commute to my new job. What sort of work bags does everybody use? I like the look of the tote style as I tend to one shoulder it anyway but I don’t like how open they are.
I only have to wear the retainer at night! But yes, I know that part will be for life. My sister did one of the alternative brands to Invisalign to close the gap between her two front teeth, but then didn’t wear her retainers. So the gap is back! Won’t be making her mistake. I got used to having those trays in, but what a pain to have to slip them in and out at work or when I’m around people. My jaws no longer pop out of place, so well worth the hassle and a relatively short treatment all things considered.
I have a Lo & Sons backpack. It was gifted to me for Christmas from my mom and sister. I have this one: https://www.loandsons.com/products/beacon-nylon-black-gold-lavender. I wish it was bigger, but it fits my work laptop (a MacBook Pro) perfectly in the back compartment. I can also squeeze in my notebook, a change of clothes for the gym, and lunch. It’s a tight squeeze, though. Before using a backpack, I was a tote or shoulder bag person, but I commute by foot and it hurt my back.
I have the Lo & Sons Rowledge. It’s handy and can be converted to a tote if you want to hold it closer to your body on public transport.
It’s similar to Copa’s. Just a little bigger and has the tote handles.
EDT: There’s two different sizes in the Rowledge. I have the bigger one because my work laptop is a little bigger.
