Will do. I’m going with a friend, and then oddly, an older woman we met while on a double date.
Background: A couple months ago, we went to Gretel for a double date and ended up sitting at a communal table. It was Mother’s Day weekend and a lovely gentleman and his mom ended up sitting next to us. We were all chatting. The gentleman recognized my husband from college. They had mutual friends, apparently. Small world! My friend and I were talking the Barbie movie. The mom piped in. My friend invited her. We exchanged numbers. And we’re all going!!
I’m wearing these shoes tonight! https://www.drlizashoes.com/collections/dr-liza-shoes/products/dr-liza-sneaker-pump-bubblegum-pink
My husband and I are going tonight with some friends/classmates from high school… because one of the actors was in our year! I don’t want to dox myself so I might delete that later! But it’s pretty wild. I wasn’t friends with them but we had a small grade.
July 21, 2023 at 2:41 pm #1123904Thanks, KT – I’m glad you’re liking the new site layout. I have a list of tweaks I still want to make but need to discuss with the developer and we’ve both been on vacation this week. I e been visiting my parents in missouri and today is their 50th anniversary. We’re celebrating with a small party this evening and then drew and the kids and I head back to Brooklyn tomorrow.
Enjoy Barbie! I’m looking forward to seeing it soon.
AnonymousseJuly 25, 2023 at 9:34 am #1123960Ha ha, ktfran just read your first Barbie post. I LOVED Barbie as a kid, and I didn’t have her house (I did have a white Barbie Ferrari, kid of divorced dad into cars) but now my daughter has a dream house (handed down) a car, so many outfits and careers. I’m vicariously living through her.
I took my daughter and her friend to see the Little Mermaid a few months ago and we saw the trailer for Barbie. We cannot wait.
I’m sure I’ll find out on Sunday, but is Kate McKinnon’s character supposed to be a Barbie who got a haircut and makeover by a child? LOL. I never had a Dream House, but I did have a foldout case that I think was meant to be a Barbie dance studio? I was beyond jealous of my sister’s turquoise and pink convertible. I don’t think my mom loved us playing with Barbie. She tried pretty hard to make sure we had not just “girl toys,” but we still had plenty of Barbie dolls, one Ken doll, a Skipper doll, and some fun accessories.
My group of gal pals going to see it has grown to a group of eight and we pulled the trigger on our tickets last night… the theater was already about half booked for the show we are going to. I’m the organizer of this outing so I encouraged any themed outfits or accessories in the group text.
I took half of the morning off to go to a dr. appt and the SOS office, and just came back to a shitstorm at the office. Ugh.
July 25, 2023 at 1:58 pm #1123978Drew and I are taking Joanie while Jackson is at sleep away camp for two weeks (he leaves Sunday, and this will be his first time away for more than two nights, I’m fine, everything is fine). I told Drew I was going to see if some friends wanted to go with me and he was a little bummed out and then Joanie said she wanted to go and I know Jackson doesn’t, so it seemed like a good idea for the three of us to go while he’s gone. I warned Joanie that it isn’t really a kids movie, even though it’s about barbie, and she might get bored, but I think the novelty of having her parents all to herself will soften that blow.
The story line is definitely for adults, but the I think there’s enough silliness, color and fun scenes that kids will enjoy. My friend’s 7 year old liked it.
All of my friends who have seen it, and I had a few go last weekend, loved it.
McKinnon is the Barbie that kids play rough with. I definitely had a Barbie that I cut her hair. My excuse to my parents was “I wanted to be like dad, who’s a barber, and I was practicing”. Ha!
