We’re watching the Bear tonight. The fucking Xmas episode was intense. Omg. Wow. I’m so happy they followed it up with the episode that features Ever. Such a fun watch. Plus, Curtis Duffy is my cheat. Not really. But I wish. The husband knows I’m enamored.
We definitely had one Barbie who kinda went through it. At some point she lost her head.
An update nobody asked for on the one-size-fits-all underwear I purchased from Nordstrom: not for me! They fit but the rise is quite low for my preference. I’m on the small end of the size range they’re supposed to fit, so tbh I’m still unsure how they work for such a wide range of sizes.
I really enjoyed Barbie yesterday! I’d been avoiding anything that might lead to spoilers, but still wondered if it was the kind of movie that included every actually funny moment in the promos. Nope! Thoroughly entertained, laughed aloud often, and even cried a little. I am glad I got to see it with some girl friends, but might actually see it again with the bf an upcoming week. Next heatwave or downpour, ha.
It seems I missed the movie Past Lives in theaters near me. I’d have to go to the suburbs to see it at this point. Hopefully I can rent it on streaming soon instead!
AnonymousseJuly 31, 2023 at 11:04 am #1124095I am very excited. I think I have a job substituting at an arts school near me. It actually pays better than I thought educators made. I got a tour of the building and had my interview this morning. The kids apply to be there and want to be there, which is awesome. I wish I’d gone to school there. It was so cool! Anyway, wish me luck. 🤞🏼

Drew and I and Joanie saw Barbie today. Drew loved, I liked it a lot, and I think it was mostly over Joanie’s head – she seemed a little bored as I had warned her she might be – but she wasn’t unhappy or anything. I thought Greta Gerwig totally nailed it.
LisforLeslieAugust 1, 2023 at 6:51 am #1124106@Anon – good luck. Subs do make a good daily rate in a lot of places, but remember the daily rate is likely more than a teacher’s daily take home but when you add in benefits, I would hope it’s roughly equivalent. Don’t forget that most teachers only get paid 10 months a year. They don’t get paid for summer vacation. If they work over summer they’ll get paid for that separately.
Just got to the Christmas episode of The Bear last night. Yikes. I used to watch Shameless — stopped when Emmy Rossum left the show — and The Bear always feels like if Lip Gallagher grew up and got into the restaurant industry. Anyway, I’ve added some Chicago restaurants to my list because of the show. Some of the places featured I recognize them because I’ve been or know of them. For some, I’ll see the characters eating somewhere I don’t know but the food looks delicious so I’ll whip out my phone to find it.
Good luck, @Anonymousse!
I can’t believe it’s already August. I love fall, but I feel like summer has kind of gotten away from me this year.
AnonymousseAugust 1, 2023 at 10:25 am #1124114It’s an hourly rate and it’s about 1/2 the school year they will need me, the director said. I’d be the on call substitute for the entire art school- they are a public charter school and work a little differently than the district schools. They have a generous leave policy which is why they need me. The public schools here use a staffing service that pays $150/day, but that is K-12, any subject. Academics for this school are done online or in school and this school is solely art, dance, music and theatre in person for grades 6-12. It seems to be mostly high school students really focused on the arts.
I’m really excited because I was kind of looking for something more flexible and not 9-5 and that isn’t crushingly soul exhausting. The best part is the building…I am not sure if I have access to use like, the darkroom but wow, that’d be cool. I was thrilled walking around. I wanted to go there. He said they’re really looking for someone to connect with the kids, and seemed to think I’d be good at that.
