@LadyE – this doesn’t surprise me at all, they may say the ingredients are the same, but the recipe may not be the same. A general warning, if you are in your 30’s and are overweight, it’s time to get off hormonal birth control. I had a pulmonary embolism and my lungs did what they were supposed to do (broke a clot up into a lot of little pieces) and I still had to go on blood thinners for a year to make sure I didn’t have any lasting damage. With your lung issues, a PE is no fucking joke. Please talk to your doc about an IUD or a barrier.
TheLadyESeptember 7, 2023 at 12:44 am #1125328Wow, I had no idea! I am actually 40 and was on birth control for almost all of my 30s. I’m not sexually active right now because I’m just trying to get better and lose the weight, not actively dating, but literally no doctor has ever said anything about that to me at all. Goodness. I mean, I’ve only in the past couple of years become overweight (was an average weight before) because pulmonary hypertension causes me to retain fluid, so maybe that’s why, IDK. But I guess it’s good I stopped taking it! And I’m so sorry you had that experience!
In my late 30s I had a few of those “ocular migraines,” not a headache but the shimmer aura for a half hour and messed up vision. One day I got to work and had some kind of aphasia where I could read words but not make sense. I thought I was having a stroke. Looking back I’m sure this was the pill. They had put me on a lower dose but still.
And then a few years ago I was having other weird alarming issues that i honestly can’t remember right now, so I just stopped taking the pill. I don’t know if it’s really understood or recommended to have women taking it continuously for years in their 30s and 40s. Probably not the best option for everyone. An IUD might be better.
Since I went off it, my period came back heavier, more frequent, and with more mood issues / pms, but I haven’t experienced anything weird or scary. It’s like, at this point how does the risk of me actually getting pregnant compare with the risk of a serious health issue.
And @theladyE, they should be talking to you about those risks. It may be why they put you on that lower-dose pill. For me it was because I was 35+ they put me on a different one to lessen the risk of stroke/clotting. I think that’s true for everyone, normal weight or not.
TheLadyESeptember 7, 2023 at 11:25 am #1125332Well, the dosage didn’t change because I have always been on the lowest dose of hormones possible – I asked for that when I got back on it at the request of a boyfriend at 34. I’ve been on it since. Basically was on from 19-25, off from 25-34, and back on at 34. It generally tends to react with my pulmonary hypertension meds and now being off it and feeling so much better I doubt I will go on it again. The only things the doctors have ever really asked me in reference to it is about smoking, which of course I don’t do. I just feel so much better off it and I’m not in a LTR that it makes sense to stay off. I had no idea about those scary health risks!
LisforLeslieSeptember 7, 2023 at 1:13 pm #1125333I had gone off the pill and then went back on the pill and the doctor discussed the risks but I wanted fewer pimples. My skin was very clear in my 24 hour ER stay.
Now as I’m in perimenopause I have gray hair and zits and my uterus seems to be in a rush to get as much done in one day as possible.
September 12, 2023 at 1:44 pm #1125386in 2019 I had an ablation…I was mid 40’s and just so tired of bleeding so heavy every month and wasn’t planning on more kids. It didn’t work. Then my gyno said he could put me on progesterone pills and they were like magic. My period was so much lighter, I almost just didn’t have one. Then my perimenopause symptoms started to get worse. Worse night sweats, mood swings, hot flashes, weight gain, insomnia, and a plethora of others so I finally asked about HRT.
I’m on a combo progesterone and testosterone HRT. It does ok. I think I need adjustments and some estrogen added in though when my hormones were tested my estrogen was really high so IDK. That doctor retired and I’m struggling to find one as good as he was. He didn’t jump on the bc pill bandwagon that so many others do. I would have refused anyway but still. It’s so hard to find a good gyno now that I’m done having babies. That seems to be all they focus on, well that and the birth control pill bandwagon.
This is a “not my circus, not my monkeys” situation IRL so I’m going to share it here.
My sister is back on Bumble after a breakup and last week she sent me a screenshot of a guy I know from college. As adults we’ve now overlapped living in two different cities and connected both times. I decided a handful of years ago that I wasn’t interested in being friends because I think he’s gross to women — at one point he even told me I should lose 10 lbs to be more competitive in dating — so at this point only see him if a mutual friend coordinates something. Years ago he cheated on his gf of like five years using Tinder — he was early 30s and matched/slept with a woman who was 18, whom he later found out was still in HS. He and one of my work friends matched on Bumble maybe 5-6 years ago while he and his long-term girlfriend of 7-8 years were broken up, and it ended dramatically after a few dates, then a couple years later they reconnected and tried to be friends and it got shady (he was back with his gf by then). I’ve mentioned him in this thread before and could write paragraphs about all the stuff he’s done that I side eye. ANYWAY, he moved in with his much-younger girlfriend a couple years ago and I know they got a puppy together last spring. I have every reason to believe they’re still together. But if his Bumble profile is being shown, it means he’s been active recently!!? I do not miss online dating.

CC cards / driver license
Chapstick (i’m addicted to it)
Small tube of lipstick
Sunglasses in case

Small pack of Kleenex -
