I’m really glad to hear the dating world is treating you well, BM! I know how shocking jumping into the modern dating world feels.
I’m still settling into and enjoying my new job. We head on vacation in a couple weeks so we need to finalize some of those plans. I am nervous for the election, which we will be out of town for.
December 11, 2024 at 8:25 am #1134326Thank you, Bagge and Addie Pray, for letting us know. Anna was an OG Dear Wendy community member who was most active from 2011- 2013. This was her profile page with her photo: https://dearwendy.com/users/anna/.
Some of the OGs, like I assume Bagge and Addie Pray, were connected with her on Facebook. Addie texted me a few days ago to share the news and said that Anna was 40 and happily married (no kids). RIP, Anna, and condolences to her loved ones.
December 11, 2024 at 8:32 am #1134327This was a post from Anna that she shared in a forum thread (about what people liked about DW) in Feb., 2012 that I thought I’d share:
“DW has shown me that many of the things I feel sometimes are perfectly normal and I am actually not as crazy as I thought I was. I’ve learned just how important communication is in all relationships, romantic or not. Finally, I’ve learned that it’s ok to cut people out of your life who are not supportive or healthy for you (even if you share blood with them).
I especially love the interaction with all of the other DW members. We come from all different locations and walks of life but I think all of our unique points of view make for very interesting and enlightening conversation. And the fact that this site is not blocked by my company’s internet filter is pretty rad too 🙂”
December 12, 2024 at 7:50 am #1134329I love that, AP.
It was 14 years ago this week I was laid off from my previous job and quickly put into motion the plan for DW, which involved hiring a lawyer when my previous employers threatened to sue me for using the name! I love seeing the names of OGs pop up here on occasion. These days, DW is getting a new life and audience on Facebook, where I regularly post older (and newer) columns. There’s a whole community of regulars there now, which is great, but that 2011-2013 era right here was a special one.BecBoo84December 12, 2024 at 11:46 am #1134332I am an OG from The Frisky Days but very rarely comment (I had no idea they threatened to sue you, that’s terrible). Love following along and love that this community is still going strong so many years later. Congratulations, Wendy! That is quite the accomplishment!
Reviving this thread to ask if anybody has experience with red light therapy, either at the spa or a home mask?
Any other news, travel plans, Valentine’s celebrations?
We had a lot of snow this past week. We watched Wong Kar Wai’s In the Mood for Love at a local theatre for Valentine’s Day which was nice.
Haven’t checked this site in awhile — hello!
I was not quite an OG, but I do remember Anna and am sad to hear of her passing.
I have no experience with red light therapy. Does that include those masks I’ve seen women wearing around their homes online? Those look gimmicky to me, however, I’d consider something like that if my trusted dermatologist recommended it. Last fall, I bought some hydroquinone pads from her and it is the first and only thing I have ever tried that has helped even out my skin tone. It was about $100, so not cheap, but over the years I’ve spent far more on OTC skincare promising the same results without ever delivering.
We had a chill Valentine’s Day. We went to a restaurant in the neighborhood that still had our city’s Restaurant Week deals (even though it had ended a week prior). We’ve been making our way through Mad Men about 15 years late, so we drank themed cocktails and watched a couple episodes.
Other than that, I had to bump up my anti-depressant dose after the election. These days, trying to curb my doom scrolling and participate in Trump’s economy as little as possible. I canceled my Prime subscription last fall. I thought I’d miss it or feel its loss — I haven’t had a car of my own in over a decade, which made it very convenient — but I don’t. I’ve always enjoyed the thrill of the hunt at thrift shops, but this year I’m trying to find what I want secondhand before considering new.
How is everyone?
KateMarch 1, 2025 at 2:48 pm #1134842I think I heard that red light therapy can be effective if administered professionally, but those home devices might be gimmicky and not effective.
Regular use of retinol, vitamin C, glycolic acid, and sunscreen has kept my skin looking good over the years. In the past I tried a La Roche Posay product that I think contained hydroquinine and it was super effective against some pigmentation that appeared in my 30s. It disintegrated a light tan scaly patch under my eyebrow. Would recommend their products. Their Effaclar Duo product cleared out my pores too.
