My mom’s older sister got it, she’s 75. I just found that out today. And I was concerned that my parents and brother might not get it (religious reasons I don’t want to hear shit about so I won’t go into), but they are going to, if nothing else just to be good citizens. This makes me feel better.

My parents have been in line for 4 hours now at a mass vaccine site. Mom says they’re moving pretty quickly but not making up much ground. When they run out of doses it’s tough luck so hopefully my parents got there in time. They brought snacks and cards to play in the car so I guess they’re getting a day date out of it.

I was offered the vaccine last week since I work for an “essential” business and I’m in Tier 1b (pregnant) but my doctor told me to decline and get it once I have the baby. I wish I could have somehow just transferred it to my dad.

So IL has no problem rolling out the vaccine down state. My dad got an appointment immediately, he’s 65 and other than age, isn’t high risk. My hair stylist’s parents had no problem either, middle of the state. Oh, and my BFF has a child with down syndrome. Since she’s her caregiver, she was able to get in last week. Also downstate IL.

It’s Chicago and the surrounding suburbs that are fucked. I’m really hoping for at least my first shot by June. Not holding my breath though.

I guess my parents can get it now if there’s a slot open at CVS (I think you have to check it at midnight for openings). They are 71. I was thinking it was 75+. I guess my husband was talking to my mom on the phone today because of the kitchen situation and filled them in on how the fuck to get the vaccine because they’re clueless. Everyone I know is having to strongarm and orchestrate their damn parents through this.

If one parent is the right age, but the other is younger… BOTH should go to the appointment. They offered my too young mom (by a few years) the shot when she accompanied my dad who is 7 years older.

I am very relieved to say that both of my parents got their first shot on Monday. Their doctor called last Thursday to say that he could get them on the list and to go fill out a form that he had emailed them, and *lo and behold* they got an appointment. The county fairgrounds has been turned into a mass vaccination space, in the hopes to vaccinate the entire county by summer (we’ll see how that goes). They said it was very well organized and they were in and out in about an hour. My sister also got vaccinated since she is an essential worker (pharmacist), so I’m very glad for that too!

My state was 50th for awhile I think but we’ve jumped up in ranks. I am really hoping the process gets smoother, especially in more populated areas.

@DearWendy they’re at the national guard one in my old home town. Got there at 830 this morning and JUST GOT THEIR SHOT(1) Right at 2:00. Mom said the wait was forever but the line moved pretty well and every one was nice. They provided snacks and bathrooms for people waiting in line. I’m just so relieved they finally got it.

yea chicago is a freaking sh*tshow. I guess work has been trying to set up/inquire as to a mass vaccination at our plant and the city cannot figure it out. The hospitals all did just fine, but its really enlightening the complete mismanagement and lack of system for the city. Good lord theyre telling teachers to “be patient.” alright then.. wtf

So they have to keep the fans in the kitchen going all weekend, and I can’t even go in there because it’s like a hot, windy desert. Apparently the ceiling is completely fucked and will have to come down. Not sure about the rest of the room. The restoration guys and the insurance guy are coming back Monday morning.

I really can’t with this. It’s thrown off the whole routine that keeps me going.

All of this because of a dishwasher. Also, what kind of dishwasher installer doesn’t make sure the water is turned off?? It’s seriously effed up.

I’d seriously look into legal options to recoup all of you losses, including not being able to fully use your house.

    I’m so sorry.

Veritek33: I don’t think my parents had any such crazy long wait in the burbs of Phoenix, Arizona. I am pretty sure they would have told me as they thought the three hours I waited to get tested in December at Dodger Stadium was pretty over the top. I’ll have to ask them.

Kate: that really sucks. I guess, start looking at paint colors. Use this nightmare as a way to get a bit of a free kitchen revamp. I suspect the walls may need to be redone up by the ceiling… so you’ll need to paint.

Strangly, my only shower is now busted. The knob just… won’t turn on. It’s all fucked up. Fortunately, I am catsitting at Charley’s as he is out at the desert. (Lucky bastard!) So I am playing it cool. But yay! More water drama. What’s concerning is the maintainance guy was there yesterday and it went from bad to completely screwed… My sink was having issues… those are fixed. But I have no idea what is going on with the shower. There was no note left. Nothing. Ugh.

Sorry, I think I’m cursing everyone. Woman I work with started having water leak into her kitchen yesterday… guys renovating her bathroom upstairs did something wrong. And my other co-worker’s radiator is leaking and staining her downstairs neighbor’s ceiling.

What will you do, hose off?

    @KTFran
, yeah, it seems pretty clear to me the water was not turned off pre-installation. The installer guy came down here afterwards and asked to take pictures and tried to tell us the shutoff valve broke off. Which, okay, but that must have been after the water started pouring out. And it’s why there’s so much damage. While the super was being located and turning the main water off, the leak spread all through the ceiling across the whole room. Pieces of it are falling down today.
