Heh, I mix and matched my first two doses (Pfizer then Moderna) as Canada permitted that and I wanted the first vaccine I could get. Not sure what my booster should be. I guess either. My fiancé got three Moderna (he is IC), ooooh lol jk jk.
@copa yeah I can ask my fiancé. The uncle who is hosting also thinks COVID is not a big deal but he probably would still be vaccinated. It caused tension between my fiancé’s mom and his uncle though since she’s a teacher while he can wfh.
Thinking more, one difference between private home and event space is ventilation.
I will say, for the number of dumb things my boyfriend’s mom has said about COVID, she’s been great about making sure the people who do think it’s a big deal feel safe on the rare occasion we’ve been to her house. (She can think it’s NBD, but you can also tell she’s scared of it sooo.) And then for the most part we keep COVID and politics in general off the table when everyone is together. So hopefully your fiance’s family is able to pull it off in a way that makes people feel safe enough for the family to get together, @hfantods. I was so, so happy to see my family on the west coast this year.
Up to 16 reported cases at the kids’ school now. At least two, maybe three, in Joanie’s class. Don’t know about Jackson’s class since no one has been tested. School asked families to get kids tested over the weekend so we’ll see. I’m grateful we got first dose of the vaccine before this outbreak.
My kids are vaccinated! Well, at least the first dose. The relief I thought I’d feel when I was came when they got their shots. I feel so much safer. I guess even if I knew the chances were remote, the tiny threat of my kids being on a ventilator or worse (or the unknowns) was really impacting me. That they are a little safer is a huge weight lifted. Rejoice.
Man, getting a booster on top of a cold my husband brought back from a work trip was shitty! It definitely reinforced that I do not want to get sick.
And these people that are like, my immune system is naturally strong, so I don’t need a vaccine, like… okay. I think mine is too. I’ve never had the flu. I take vitamins, including D. I walk outside for miles every day. I have a pretty healthy diet. I haven’t been sick in almost 2 years due to social distancing, but shit, I got knocked down by a cold. I probably wouldn’t die of Covid, but I definitely do not want it.
Everyone here at work is required to be vaccinated and wear a mask indoors. I know wearing the mask has helped because I’ve helped several students (not socially distant but wearing masks) who emailed me the next day saying they have COVID. We had so many cases the last two weeks from parties…so it’s still a very real thing even if vaccinated. College kids are dumb. 🙂 Anyway, if my work suddenly decided to not require masks I’d request to work from home or have to quit. I’m not working indoors without masks. Not with how it’s all playing out when they get together not wearing masks.
That is a very heartening anecdote, @rangerchic. Glad you have been safe so far. Does your college require students to be vaccinated?
I feel discouraged hearing news stories from Europe. They’ve been one or two months ahead of us and I hope we don’t get another surge. I think our vaccination rates are higher?
The numbers will go up, but where there are high vaccination rates, hopefully we will not see ICU numbers and mortality rates go up. In the northern red / purple states, Idaho, South Dakota, Michigan, rates are going to go up up up. I expect schools and churches will be the biggest spreaders. Thanksgiving is in 2 weeks. So we should be back in hell around December 8 or so.
Up to 20 cases at my kids’ school now from the past 10 days. Multiple cases in Joanie’s class, including I think her teacher (who was absent from the zoom lesson s all last week while the class was quarantined, and was missing yesterday when the class returned to in-person).
So glad you got your kids vaxxed, Anonymousse, and folks are getting their boosters. It will be a rough winter for those with waning or no immunity.
