Guys, one of my backgrounds is in epidemiology and I am a microbiologist. I would advise you cancel any gathering with more than five people involved for at least a month, and even so I wouldn’t take my chances with those. Especially in the US where nobody knows how many people have the virus because the testing is not being done, there’s no containment and quarantines are just starting to be decreted.
I’m sorry but every wedding, birthday, party or whatever needs to be cancelled especially if there are older people involved. The US governement has handled this crisis like shit, so it’s up to us, healthy people to do our best. Please advise your relatives to STAY HOME. This is not a time to celebrate or to be selfish.HelenMarch 16, 2020 at 12:57 pm #877852My husband just turned 48. He recently had a physical and the labs looked good. He takes a blood pressure medication and could lose a little weight but overall healthy. My kids spent the night at my mom’s last Friday. She has COPD. I’m terrified for her. I’ve been taking this shit seriously since the beginning. I pulled my son out of school before they closed. Still fucking got it. My husband visits jails for his job. I’ve been hounding him to be vigilant because jails are disease vectors. What are they going to do when this virus rips through a prison? I doubt they have a plan or are very concerned for inmates
HelenMarch 16, 2020 at 1:02 pm #877854Aside from a cough the kids are unaffected. Plenty of energy, eating all my food stockpile. No fever. My husband hasn’t left the bed all day. Keeps feeling like he’s going to pass out. Yesterday he had diarrhea. His throat is raw. I’m not feeling anything. Hoping I stay healthy till he’s back on his feet

This thread is very helpful. Very illuminating and useful graphs. Young children haven’t died, yet. But older children have at a rate higher than seasonal flu. And that does not mean they don’t get very, very sick. The reality is, the shit has not yet even hit the fan here. I’m terrified.
OracleMarch 16, 2020 at 1:22 pm #877856Helen: It looks like you can call Life Hope Labs (404-891-0121) and they will send you a kit to your home for testing. They say 24 hour turnaround time. They are an independent lab in Atlanta. They are with Southside Medical Center. I am out of state so I am not familiar with your area. You may have one of the types of flu and without testing you can not know. Wishing you the best.
HelenMarch 16, 2020 at 2:33 pm #877858They’re supposed to be setting up drive thru testing around here. I’ll get us tested if they do. There’s no treatment so I haven’t pushed for testing. And if he has any problems with breathing I will take him to the ER. I’ll take him to a dozen ERs if I have to.
The reason my husband likes this dr is because he’s a crazy, brash Russian guy who says off the wall stuff. But I trust his competence
Looks like much of the Bay Area will be heading into a total lockdown: https://www.sfchronicle.com/local-politics/article/Bay-Area-must-shelter-in-place-Only-15135014.php.
March 16, 2020 at 3:11 pm #877863I’ve heard rumors that NYC will be doing this starting tomorrow.
