I know this forum isn’t really active anymore, but I still think about this group fondly and hope y’all are doing well.

I’m from Tim Walz’s home city, and here in Minnesota its been a nightmare. Every story you’ve heard about how ICE are conducting themselves in Minneapolis is true. We’ve become a “papers please” country. It doesn’t matter who you are, if they have warrants or anything. If you look like you might be an immigrant, you can and will be stopped by ICE. It doesn’t matter if your 70 years old siting alone in your apartment in your underwear or 5 years old in a bunny hat and Spider-Man backpack walking home from preschool. They’ll ask you for your papers and arrest you if you don’t have them all the same.

On the bright side, Minneapolis has built a great network of resistance here and the occupation would have more casualties without it. We’re making life miserable for the gangs roving the street.

It’s General Strike day here and places all over the state are closing in solidarity.

Start building your communication networks now for when they come to your city.

Stay safe, stay warm, stay happy and healthy as much as possible.

Thank you for your note! I’m horrified by what’s happening and can’t stop thinking about Minnesota. We have been preparing in NYC, as every town and city in the US should. We are int he ultimate fight for our democracy.

Thanks Wendy, and thanks for the shout out. We’re holding strong but its impossible to not feel some amount of demoralized, hopeless or anything. There was a modest last minute gathering in my modestly sized hometown today and ICE used the opportunity to snatch people up and continue to intimidate the observers.

I just want people to know that the deplorable stories getting shared online of ICE actions are very real and very much not isolated incidents. But we’re seeing the support we’re getting from other states and it does really mean a lot. Knowing that the tactics being developed in Minneapolis and elsewhere in Minnesota will be used to defend other neighborhoods across the country is heartening.

Finally, tell your reps they need to abolish ICE. They are an out of control rogue agency and need to be stopped. Lord knows my garbage bag of a representative Brad Finstad isn’t going to do anything.
