This friend is definitely a terrible example. If you wait a few months you are more than likely going to hear about a terrible break up and your friend being upset. Most boss/employee relationships don’t work out well. There are always cases where it does, but they are not the norm and it’s dangerous for your personal happiness to cling to those examples.
The hoping if you were both single and you didn’t work there, the reason it didn’t come up as a potential answer here is that it is so far fetched. Anyone who tells you that is a legitimate possibility is not giving you good advice.
February 17, 2015 at 2:54 pm #335765Keep on dreaming, Sarah b. He’s married. Go find a single man. Seriously. It’s most likely && not going to happen. He’s married. He’s married. He’s married.
February 17, 2015 at 2:57 pm #335770Actually people are divorcing less these days. You said he was happily married. Leave it alone.
bittergaymarkFebruary 17, 2015 at 2:57 pm #335771Sarah B, it is no abundantly clear to me that… subconsciously… what you WANT here is permission to pursue this guy… Since it shall undoubtedly make for such a terrific trainwreck and thus many an interesting thread here at DW… Permission? GRANTED.
i thought you were coming around but don’t you see how unlikely it would be for all of those things to happen? that’s why if you can’t keep this a fantasy that you know won’t ever happen you have to move on.
and sure it could happen with any guy. but, really focusing so firmly on a situation that is not likely to happen to the point you can’t give up on it, is not healthy.
on an unrelated note i finally figured out that anything could happen is an ellie goulding song. so now i’m singing that phrase the way she does in that song.
bostonpupgalFebruary 17, 2015 at 2:58 pm #335773Even if you didn’t work there, even if you quit today, there are a whole host of other things that would need to fall into place for “it to happen”. Your boss would need to be single, he’d need to go through the lengthy and emotionally awful process of divorcing, he’d need to heal from that process, he’d need to be ready to find love again, he’d need to be attracted to you and want a relationship with you. It is not likely that those things will ever happen. Ever. It is important for your health and happiness that you accept that and move on
