My point? I have a point? I never said I had a point. That’s the point, you know?
I feel like we’re really connecting, finally.
coconotFebruary 19, 2015 at 10:20 pm #336660@mrmid, that sounds awful. I am glad you were able to find a way around the ripoffs. I guess they just take advantage of the fact that everyone just wants to get things over with as easily as possible, and is not necessarily thinking about saving money.
Kind of like the hospital industry… most people aren’t going to shop around for a good price on a cancer treatment so the hospitals can just rip you (or your insurance) off if they choose.
I’m also sorry about your dad, @mrmid. 🙁
The whole funeral industry also sounds like the wedding industry in terms of ripoffs. The moment I say “wedding” they seem to tack on a 20% “convenience fee” or something ridiculous like that. I can’t say “gathering” or “get together” because it’s VERY OBVIOUSLY going to be a wedding, and it ticks me off. I get that vendors and everyone needs tips and all that, but even our budgeted wedding is insane how much it’s going to be. I tried on a veil on Sunday that looked super cheap, and it was $100! I look on Etsy that night and found a GORGEOUS handmade veil for $50. It’s insane how overpriced things are.
February 19, 2015 at 10:29 pm #336662@AP, thanks, you know I appreciate it.
@coco, the funeral industry totally does that. Most funeral homes are now corporately owned, so that makes it worse, same with the casket and urn companies. Fortunately, I can’t relate to the hospital industry from living in Canada.lol @lyra your veil story coupled with the well dressed zombie comment earlier reminds me of my Halloween costume last year (I was a zombie bride). I got a $25 dress and $10 veil off Amazon then covered both with fake blood and dirt. Three separate people asked me (with horrified expressions on their faces) if I had destroyed my real wedding dress for the costume, so I guess my cheapo gown and veil were convincing enough!
