Hi, looking for some impartial advice – I am currently prescribed Topamax (topirimate) for epilepsy and have fallen pregnant, I was offered birth control but I wasn’t warned of the effects topirtimate could have so declined – I have tested positive and down a rabbit hole researching the effects of this medication on an unborn baby, it increases risk of cleft lip palate, additional support needs including autism adhd and other learning needs, would it be ridiculous for me to carry on with this pregnancy? Is it too risky and something I would worry myself about for 9 months

You need to talk to your doctor! This isn’t the kind of thing to poll internet strangers about.

This is a question for your medical doctor.

Like none of those things that you listed are really that bad at all? A cleft palate is quickly fixed with surgery, autism and adhd … are very, very common in healthy people. This question is almost upsetting because those things are just so normal. You’d terminate a pregnancy over adhd? I can tell you are more worried about the abstract here than thinking deeply about this.

    Talk to your doctor.

If you are worried about worrying for nine months, don’t have a child. The worry never goes away, they just get bigger and more complex and out of your control.
