I’ll keep it simple. 2.5 hour flight. Can take an emergency flight back.

    Wife won’t let me go

So just venting? There wasn’t a question there.

I mean that’s really close to her due date so you should probably be around.

Go anyway and deal with the bs when you get back. I think 3 weeks away and only a 2.5 hour flight is reasonable. Go to the wedding, maybe reception and B line it home, it’s your little brother.

I don’t blame your wife for wanting you home. A 2 1/2 hour flight isn’t home in 2 1/2 hours unless you are very lucky on timing and the hospital is next door to the airport.

My question is don’t you think this is unreasonable?

I can make it back in time and I can have flights setup and paid for ahead of time in case she starts having contractions.

She will be staying at her parents so her Mom will can be there. Older brother already bought me a flight to leave at 8 am the next morning, but I could buy an emergency ticket or earlier ticket if needed.

And in case of emergency I could take the next flight out.

Ok so maybe I jumped the gun, you may get an emergency flight but how fast can you board and be in the air really…? BTw, ladies, I am a father of one but I don’t remember any worries on our end, 3 weeks or so from the due date to do anything or one of us not be together for a weekend and whatnot, is it that common to go into labor and/or have a medical emergency 3 weeks away? I’m not being snarky, i seriously didn’t know that was an issue and feel this wife is overreacting

Every pregnancy is different so I’m not going to speculate on how likely it is but within 3 weeks of her due date yeah-it could absolutely happen. She’s not being unreasonable from where I’m standing at all. It’s shitty timing but too bad so sad.

Lol it must be nice to be able to mentally pass off the responsibility of a pregnancy. You realize she doesn’t have that option. Oh her mom’s there so her husband doesn’t need to be. Really?? He’s the father he should be there if she wants him to be.

The baby may not come three weeks early. The majority don’t. But if he/she does, you likely will not get home in time to see the birth, if you add in time to get to the airport, get a ticket (hoping an immediate flight is available), get through security, get on the plane, wait for the plane to leave, land, wait for luggage, catch a cab or a ride to the hospital, find the hospital room…

That’s the perspective you need to understand.

Also, you dismiss the idea of supporting her through labor, which I’m sure is not making your wife happy, either.

Sure, she could totally have the baby (or a complication) 3 weeks early. A woman I work with had hers 9 weeks early and it was really traumatic (everyone is ok now). If the question is, is she being unreasonable, no. It really sucks to have to miss your brother’s wedding, and the “won’t let me” language is a little weird, but she’s not being unreasonable.

My dad wasn’t there when my brother was born, and he thinks there was a switcheroo.
