I’ve never even heard of Clare V! But, I’m not super stylish.
IDK the style name of the bag, but when I was in HS and college, we wore those shoulder bags with the short strap. Those seem to be back in. My boyfriend’s 12-year-old (turning-13 tomorrow!) niece wears one. I HATED those. They never stayed on my shoulder, I hated not having my hands free. I’m a crossbody (or other hands-free style) girlie for life now regardless of what comes in and out of fashion.
This tank right here from A&F (https://www.abercrombie.com/shop/us/p/2000s-lace-trim-cami-53134859?faceout=model&seq=02) looks SO similar to the style of tanks we used to wear back then, too. Just need that, a denim mini skirt (also back in style, from what I’ve seen), and flip flops or Ugg boots, and I’d be ready to go drink the jungle juice!
Have fun in Italy, @ktfran! I love random run-ins (with people I like) in unexpected corners of the world.
I see the Marc Jacobs “The Tote Bag” around — mostly when I commute to/from the office — and IDK how that became a trend. And that tote can’t be cheap, either. IDK, just not my style, but I see it around enough.
I’m currently panic ordering a bunch of clothes for my trip in a few weeks. I don’t weigh myself, but some of my warmer weather clothes don’t fit me well right now. Things still zip and fit, but I don’t feel comfortable or confident. And, weirdly, others still fit fine or even in a more flattering way? So trying to clean up eating habits over here, though not expecting huge changes between now and my departure. But wanting some items I feel confident in for travel and events. I’ve been doing Nuuly and have three cocktail/formal events this month, so hoping one (or more) of the dresses I ordered fits well enough that I don’t have to buy anything new.
I love Gimme Beauty hair ties. They offer different kinds for different hair types. I have a thick head of fine hair, so I buy both the fine hair and thick hair ones. The fine hair bands, I wear when I want my hair up and tight. They’re my go-to for working out. The thick hair bands, I can’t get quite as tight, but the thickness of the band means my ponytail is very perky/doesn’t droop.
I am intrigued by the Goody Hair Spin Pin. I bought a french pin earlier this year after seeing someone on TikTok use one in her hair. I was like, “Oh, how easy! How elegant!” But no. My hair was waaaay too thick.

We’ve covered belt bags on this thread! I have one and at least in my area, the trend is still going strong. I got it in 2020 and use it all the time. It’s great for dog walks and errands. I have the OG Lululemon one in black like every other basic b. You can also buy nicer ones that aren’t as sporty and I’ve even seen some that are convertible (crossbody to belt bag).
In 2019 I went to Barcelona with my mom and we met up with one of her friends there. Her friend now lives in Andorra and travels often throughout Europe. She had a beautiful leather crossbody bag that converted to a fanny pack-style bag that she’d gotten somewhere in Italy. If you’re worried about it not being timeless (cause let’s be real, the Lulu one is definitely not), you could go for something like that. As an aside, Barcelona is known as the pickpocket capital of the world and plenty of tourists were wearing their backpacks on the front. I’d been pickpocketed in Cape Town earlier that year, so was VERY aware of my bag in Spain. A bag that can be kept close to your body and in the front will always be practical for travel. I spent that trip hoping to find a nice bag like my mom’s friend.

@Wendy That is exciting! I hope you get more and more growth.
I cut my hair collarbone length maybe 2-3 weeks ago. That’s as short as my stylist would let me go with my hair’s thickness and texture. She thinks when the heat and humidity hit here, I’ll want it this length or longer. The Air Wrap is useless for me atm with this haircut. I’m fully on board with the claw clips that are back in style. I don’t want to deal with my hair at all these days and they make it easy. They were a lifesaver in Mexico in February.
ETA: Super random, but I think I’ve been blacklisted from leaving Glassdoor reviews. LOL. I tried to leave a review of my recent interview experience and it was immediately in the reject pile, never “pending.”

Wash-and-go is my dream.
A hairdresser once told me hair texture can change every ~7 years or so. IDK if that’s accurate, but I had thin, straight hair as a kid, and that changed around puberty. It has been more or less the same since then, though I sometimes think it’s straighter now.
Letting my hair set in velcro rollers gives me the best volume out of anything I’ve ever tried. If I use a product for volume, which I do pretty sparingly these days, I like Aquage uplifting foam at the roots.
@MoneyPenny Good to hear from you!! One of my friends spend $90K on her Friday evening wedding in November in Chicago. So, off-season and a weekday. She claims that’s just what weddings here cost, but I’m not sure I believe it. I think they opted into the most expensive of everything. You can tell she thinks pricier is better. She and her fiance went the lab diamond route and they still spent $25-30K on her ring. And apparently $10K on his wedding band. I actually haven’t seen her since her wedding because the way she started talking about money leading up to her wedding was super off putting.
I do wonder what happened to @Ale and @JD. And @TheHizzy!
I actually think it’s a myth that women are “supposed” to feel maternal/motherly. Just my two cents.
@hfantods – If you are thinking about leaving practice altogether, feel free to DM me on IG should you feel so inclined. I did it. I have friends who have done it. Like half of my department at work did it. I’m not an expert, but I can at least tell you where people I know personally landed and how they like it.@MissMJ I’m so sorry! I don’t have experience with losing a parent, but sometimes I think about what it will be like when (specifically) my mom passes — we are close, she is one of my favorite people ever — and always think the world will be a totally different place after. I can only imagine how difficult it is.
Congratulations @golfer.gal! A wedding in Hawaii sounds fabulous. (And yay for prenups! If I do ever choose to get married, there will be a prenup!)
@ktfran I actually wrote in on this site years ago freaking out after my doctor found a lump. I’d just turned 30, which meant NWM wouldn’t let me get just an ultrasound even though that’s all my doctor thought I needed preliminarily. So I got my first mammogram. Mine turned out to be a benign tumor. And I had/have way more than just one, only the one was palpable. I remember them describing it like a marble under a rug, where they can feel really big if they’re close to the surface. It can be nerve wracking waiting to find out what’s going on, but hopefully it continues to be nothing serious!I read Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo with my book club last summer. I liked it! More of a memoir person, though. I didn’t know that Taylor Jenkins Reid is the author until you mentioned it, @Vathena — I just got my next book club read from the library yesterday evening and it’s another one of her books, Carrie Soto Is Back.
I just got off a large-scale meeting with 100+ participants. Someone (from an outside org) must’ve been going through a drive-thru and ordered a “chocolate shake, extra thick” in the middle of something one of our directors was saying. LOL!
ETA: I did like I’m Glad My Mom Died if anyone is looking for a book rec. I wasn’t sure I’d like the whole audiobook experience, so I picked a book I was curious enough about but didn’t care whether or not I got the experience of reading it… I listened the whole thing in a day. (Trigger warnings: abuse and EDs.)

LOL! One day maybe… I’m indifferent to marriage as an institution at this point. I don’t think kids are for me, so IDK if I will ever legally tether myself to anyone, even though I very much thought marriage was my goal when dating. And briefly in my mid/late 20s, when I lived in a different area where seemingly everyone was paired off and settled down by 25, I was even freaking out about it a little bit. We did have an appt to go to Tiffany to try on rings I think last fall after a friend told me they give you free champagne, but then we had a COVID scare and had to cancel.
A few weeks ago I ate lunch out on an in-office day. I ordered a salad, added chicken to it for some protein, and also got a cafe au lait. After tip, I’d spend something absurd like $30. For a salad and coffee. Today, that same cafe/bakery was giving out free cold brew and cookies in my building lobby. I got the last cookie. I feel like I just got some of that $30 back.
If anyone has read any great books lately, I’m all ears. I’m in a reading slump. I’m pretty late to the audiobook party, but I just listened to my first one — I’m Glad My Mom Died. (Also happy to connect with anyone who uses Good Reads, which I’m trying to actually use to see if it helps me through my slump.)
There are/will be other jobs out there for you if/when you are ready! It’s not worth it when your mental and emotional health are really suffering from it. One of my friends recently got fired from a job, which sucks, but she’s had some health issues (mental + physical) pop up in the years she was there working under a boss who sounded like a whack job. Her doctors couldn’t really figure out what was causing some of the problems she was having. It’s been a few weeks and all the mystery symptoms are resolving. It was the job!!!
