Thanks, @hfantods! Do report back as they grow out if you’re able.
I’m a week out from my Botox and filler and I’m pleased with the results. I still have control over my eyebrows and forehead. Those muscles feel relaxed, not paralyzed, and I find I’m less inclined to raise my eyebrows in moments I would’ve done so unconsciously (e.g., when I apply mascara). I had minimal swelling for a day or so after filler. No bruising. My under eyes look way better to me, though I think the difference is subtle. I still have some hollowness (per the derm, totally flat under eyes will never be in the cards for me because of my facial structure), but I can tell a real difference in the darkness. I’m happy with subtle results and at this point don’t think I’d do more.
Does anyone have any makeup brush recs for applying cream and liquid products? I use a Beauty Blender for most things, but think I’d prefer brushes for liquid/cream blushes.
@hfantods Do you like the results of your lash lift? I’ve thought about doing a lash lift and tint in the summer months before, when I’m more likely to be doing outdoor activities where I don’t want to wear mascara but still want my lashes to have that look to them. My lashes are long but they’re not very dark, so mascara makes a huge difference.- This reply was modified 1 year, 9 months ago by Copa.
We want to see Jurassic Park at the symphony if possible! The SF Symphony just scored it and some of my family in the Bay Area went, said it was super fun.
Also meant to add to the beauty convo: Rare Beauty. I have the cream blush in two colors and they have become my go-to. I’d heard great things about the liquid blush specifically, but figured I’d start with a cream product. I’d try other products from that brand based on the blush.
Food/drinks can be included, I just don’t want it to be the focus since I already take full advantage of our food/drink scene. Ha! (Over the weekend, I described myself as being in my speakeasy era. LOL.) Current ideas include visiting museums I haven’t been to, exploring a new neighborhood, the symphony, a concert or movie at Millennium Park. There’s a Japanese garden I’d like to visit in Hyde Park this spring.
I wanted to go to MCA and eat at their restaurant Marisol after, but neither is open on Mondays. I have the day off but the BF does not… wherever I end up, I’m excited to take myself out on a date.
Alright, I need to try this product that doesn’t rub off from a mask! I mask up for public transit and the Slip Tint (my go-to these days) does rub off.
Today I’m wearing real foundation, which I almost never do anymore. I joined the board of a literacy nonprofit last year and today is the first in-person meeting since pre-COVID. I’m going straight from work, so used a product that I know has better staying power.
Not makeup related, but I finally decided on some goals for the new year! I want to do one new thing every month in my city that isn’t food- or drink-centered. I kinda miss being new in a city and this feels like the next best thing to blowing my whole life up and moving, haha. I have Monday off so I’m planning to do my January excursion then. The museum I wanted to go to will be closed, so I might start basic af with the Sears Tower. I know there’s a sizable Chicago-based readership of this site, so I’m open to suggestions if anyone has any. I’m also setting mini monthly goals. This month, I just wanna hit the step goal assigned to me by my watch everyday since it’s so easy for me to fall into a little seasonal depression hole in January.
I didn’t know that vitamin C powders were a thing! I started using the Glossier Super Glow vitamin C serum earlier this year. I liked it enough to repurchase. I can’t justify the price tag for Skinceuticals, which seems to be the gold standard in the derm world.
We’re heading on vacation/to a wedding in Mexico in a few weeks. It’s a desi wedding and for one of the events, I am participating in a group dance and we are all wearing colorful traditional outfits. I’m normally a carry on only person, but that one outfit is probably going to take up a lot of space in my suitcase, so I’m planning to pack a larger suitcase and check it. Which means I should have space for any and all skincare I want to bring. I usually don’t bring everything I’d typically use when I travel. Really excited to bring a big tube of my preferred sunscreen.
That was the third bike I’ve had stolen while living in this city! All three were taken from secure areas. The silver lining is that this one was cheaper (as far as bikes go anyway) and I didn’t like it that much; I bought it online without ever seeing or riding it in person in 2020 when bikes were a hot commodity. So I hope to shop for a second-hand one next time, in person.
Years ago, back when I did Birchbox, I got a tinted chapstick in my box that looked clear but when applied was a your-lips-but-better color. I really loved that one. Cannot recall the brand. I had no idea Pillowtalk was available as a balm! There’s a small store not too far from me that sells mostly European skincare brands and I’d like to do some research to try some of those lines.
The La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume B5 has zinc in it, so it’s great for redness! I apply it maybe 1-2 nights/week in winter and can always tell the next morning that my redness is down. The BF will specifically use it on this dry red dry patch he gets on his forehead sometimes in the winter.
Re: The old-looking coworker. When I did the online dating thing, there were men who looked SO old for their listed ages! It was a minority and yeah, some people lie about age on those sites, but every once in awhile I was really taken aback.
@Anonymousse Are you using the Saie Slip Tint? I have that one and like it. I was unsure of the texture at first, but it’s lightweight on my skin, has SPF, offers a little coverage, and gives a nice glow. I find the finish a little tacky, but think I’d repurchase.
I also get very hot when I exercise so I’m the kind of runner who likes to be as naked as possible. I actually enjoy running outdoors in the winter as long as the pavement isn’t icy. The limiting factor is the shorter days, though.
I’ve biked home exactly once from my office using my city’s bike share bikes and holy crap was our lakefront trail crowded. It was insane and our bike share bikes are incredibly heavy, so it’s hard to react quickly if needed. One of my coworkers bikes to and from work as often as he can, even in the winter if conditions are reasonable, and said I should give the morning commute into the office by bike a try. He said it’s very quiet and peaceful. Our bikes were stolen from our garage last year, so hopefully when I get a new one I can commute by bike sometimes on a bike that doesn’t weigh 50 lbs.
@ktfran I started following a few of running accounts on social media in the past couple years. I learned that in weather that’s too cold for shorts but too hot for leggings, some runners will smear vaseline on their legs. Hard pass over here. I’d rather be too cold or too hot. LOL.
I did Zoom whitening at my dentist once years ago when they had a promo deal. My dentist’s office seems to offer discounts going into every summer. I’d do it again. The dental assistant told me that if I got drugstore whitening strips, I’d be able to maintain that level of whiteness. I did not listen. I’m currently doing Invisalign and have thought about doing it again when my treatment is finished in spring.
@hfantods I like the Drunk Elephant cleansing balm, but otherwise didn’t care for the products I’ve tried from that brand. I don’t get my nails done very often, but have also noticed an uptick in prices.I have a tiny bit of swelling under my eyes this morning, which I suspected would happen while I was laying down at night. No redness or bruising. The Botox feels interesting. One aversion I had to it all these years is that friends would tell me you can feel it. I had comparatively little injected and it’s only been a day, so both may be contributing factors, but I’d not describe it that way. Right now I’d say my forehead feels relaxed. There’s no heaviness.
Also, yeah, I feel like for younger generations, there’s way better skincare advice out there than there was when I was in my teens and 20s. SO many women I know in my age range did the tanning bed thing in their teens. I did it a little bit, too, and regret it. I’m diligent about skin checks now. My mom and her friends used to rub (I think) coconut oil on themselves, then lay out. A dermatologist once corrected her when she made reference to her freckles — told her that they were sun damage, not freckles.
ConradPetersen Dermatology in Lakeview East. I was nervous and the doctor (I see Dr. Conrad) was great about that. She took a conservative approach and did everything light-handed, saying she’d allow me to do more of both if I want, but won’t do it any sooner than six weeks out and encouraged me to wait a little longer than that to decide if I want it. The Botox is more preventative than anything. (I got 19 units and my friends who do it seem to be in the 50-70 range. I don’t want a paralyzed forehead.) The under eye area… yeah, it was pretty hollow and therefore dark, which did bug me. I did my best with brighteners and makeup, never felt like they did much. I scheduled it for a Friday not knowing what I’d look like immediately after, but after about 30 minutes, I could’ve gone anywhere. I wish I’d taken a before photo so I could compare in a week or two, but I know they did at the doctor’s office.
Maybe a couple months ago at work, we were interviewing for an open role. IDK if this is a total dick comment, but I was kind of shocked by how smooth one candidate’s face looked in comparison to her neck. I was expecting someone younger based off her college graduation year.
One of my friends is currently doing laster tattoo removal and said it hurts FAR worse than her tattoo did.
The update nobody asked for: I got a tiny bit of Botox and under eye filler this morning. Very quick, virtually painless. I can already tell a difference in my under eye area (and am really pleased with what I see so far), but sounds like both treatments take about a week for the full results. My dermatologist and her staff were great. I go back in two weeks so she can see how everything settled.
