June 3, 2024 at 12:26 pm #1129285Joining the chorus as a middle of the pack millennial (despite the user name- been reading DW for a long time). It sounds like you and your partner are due for some early/mid career shifts- possibly outside of your industry. Having worked for a major consumer packaged goods player for number of years- I can say that over half of our sales and marketing teams from entry level through many of our senior managers and executives have totally unrelated previous career and degree experience. We often seen that people we hire in their late 20’s/early 30’s who are doing a career pivot- significantly outperform the new grads and early 20’s folks and advance quicker (largely from being the more mature person in the room). Even though it may seem like a step back to look at those types of roles- I would suggest it as something worth considering.
Another alternative path would be exploring a career in the trades- it may not be glamorous, but there are tons of grants and apprenticeship programs for people looking to pivot, and given the shortage of tradespeople- there’s relative job security if you choose your trade correctly.
Just a couple outside options to consider, if you’re not committed to staying in your industry- there’s lots of other options out there- you’re not totally pigeon holed.
November 30, 2015 at 4:40 pm #400705A little off topic, but @ktfran’s eye and hair color comment made me laugh. I have blue eyes, and have had several girls go out with me specifically for that because they wanted blue eyed children. My type was short brunettes, but my current relationship is with a tall blonde. I’d definitely attempt to break type a little, but not with a borderline racist/conservative.
November 5, 2015 at 6:30 pm #393091@Jimmyjam, I’ll say some guys use free sites for hooking up but a lot don’t. I met my girlfriend on Tinder, and know a few other couples who did as well. My history of free sites was always go on a date in see what happens. Sometimes they turned into hookups, sometimes it was short term dating, and sometimes it was dates that could have turned into long term relationships if either of was interested. It’s pretty easy to figure out what people are looking for on them.
August 24, 2015 at 4:07 pm #373327@shakeourtree, I hope you primed the metal bed frame. Depending on the previous paint and the paint you’re using, the new paint might flake off quite easily without it.
August 24, 2015 at 11:34 am #373238I have a date with my tablesaw this weekend. My girlfriend will be out of town shopping with a friend, and I have no other plans other than to make a few items for my etsy store and start a TV stand for her.
August 6, 2015 at 4:08 pm #370865I don’t want to speak for all guys, but for myself, I’m always a little extra impressed when a woman I go out with wears a dress instead of jeans. Particularly on a first date.
July 30, 2015 at 8:42 am #369768I would actually only respond to him if he clearly said the statement, “I want to come over and meet your beagles”
