So sorry about the toxic parent relationships! My parents should never have married…maybe they loved each other at some point? Maybe not. But mom got pregnant with me at 18 and so they got married. I’m the oldest of four. Dad had a temper and mom didn’t know how to leave. Until about 7 years ago after being married for about 40 years she left him. Even though she’s the one that left, she’s bitter, sad, angry and lonely at all the time she wasted staying with him.

Dad is now remarried (to someone who looks a lot like my mom, it’s kind of weird). Mom is just surviving. She tried in the beginning to complain about dad but I put my foot down and said get therapy they’ll be able to help you more than I can. But she won’t do that either.

Not nearly the drama that y’all have! And since I live a few states away, even less for me than my siblings – I think they are jealous of me living far away 🙂

I’m 47 and also going through perimenopause. It sucks! I do like Wendy’s description of a hot flash, that’s about how mine are. I do sweat a little (mostly around my boobs) but not soaking the sheets. I’m lookin for better “cooling” sheets so if anyone has any recs? Also, the portable fan idea, I think I’m going to steal that for my nightstand! I’d open a window but i can hear cars and it can get too loud.

We are going to Salem in October! I’m really excited about going (though I know it’ll be crazy busy). When I bought the flights, I extended the stay a couple of days so we could explore Boston, except I couldn’t find a reasonable hotel in Boston. Most were $350 a night or more. So we will go to Portland Maine, it was cheaper to do that than to stay in Boston.

I was just diagnosed with carpel tunnel today. It’s actually pretty painful. Waiting on ortho to call to see if I need surgery. PSA: Be sure, if you use a computer a lot (or any repetitive motion) take lots of breaks and have the appropriate “gear”. I didn’t take enough precautions.

Thanks for posting, @Copa, and that looks amazing! I’m 47 and there is nothing to hide the bags under my eyes except the glasses I wear. Which is part of the reason I continue to wear glasses and not get contacts. They do a pretty good job of hiding my bags! I might look into that a bit later in the year at the dermatologist office I go to (I’ve only ever used them for skin cancer checks so def some sleuthing to do to see if they are any good).

Thanks all. I still have my little dog, Itsy Bitsy and that helps some. We will support each other 🙂

Glad you didn’t get sick @Copa and that you got to run the marathon! I’m not a runner though sometimes I wish I was. But I try running and in the winter it hurts my lungs and in the summer, well it’s too hot lol. I’ll stick to HIIT and a little weightlifting in my house where it’s heated and cooled.

I hope you managed to not get Covid @Copa and run your race.

There’s been so much this year already and to top it off, I had to put one of my dogs down yesterday. Bugzy was old at 13.5 and had several ailments but I still wasn’t prepared for it (that’s not why we were there). Thankfully one of my (adult) daughters was with me – I’m not sure I could have done that alone. We stayed with him to the very end. I miss him so much and I’m having a much harder time losing him than I thought I would. It’s all the little things, the absence of noises he makes and simply his presence. I’m just really sad.

I’m sorry you and your daughter are going through that @anonymousse. I am so glad my kids are grown and I don’t have to deal with any of that kind of stuff anymore.

I still, thankfully, have not had Covid. But I am in perimenopause. Most mornings these days it takes me an hour to fully wake up and a lot of days I feel like I have brain fog all day. The mood swings are awful as is the exhaustion. I feel like I only feel really good about 2-3 days a month. I’ve thought about going to my doctor but I’m afraid she’ll just want to put me on the pill and I don’t want that. I am on progesterone and that really helped my periods…but this monthly roller coaster ride is getting tiring and I likely have a few years to go yet (I’m 46, will be 47 in December). Sigh…thanks for letting me vent 🙂

@KTfran – we recently splurged (a little) on surround sound for our living room. The only thing missing when watching a movie is movie theater popcorn – I can’t seem to duplicate it at home so I’m going to try that next time!

We also have a movie theater here I think it’s called Picture Show and the tickets, no matter the time of day, are something like $5-$6 per person. And they still have the nice seats!

@Kate – I added that blazer to my wish list. I don’t really have to dress up for work but it would still be fun and cute to have 🙂

I kind of want to see Nope in the theater…Maybe! We get popcorn so don’t wear a mask but we also usually go when the theater isn’t busy so I don’t worry too much.

@Ver – I can’t believe you baby is already 16th months! How time flies.

I’m looking into a weekend trip mid-August for me and the hubs. But everyplace I check is just so expensive for lodging right now. I was wanting to stay within a four hour drive – so more time for fun. IDk if I’ll find a place or if we will do an extended weekend at home – with maybe a day trip to Denver.

I figure I haven’t had it because I take immunosuppressants. I did have a sinus infection and a bad cold…all tests for COVID came back negative (even PCR testing). I never lost my sense of taste or smell. At this point all I can do is say I haven’t had it. I also don’t have any lingering symptoms (after my cold and sinus infection). 🤷🏻‍♀️ I don’t really know 100 percent though!

Have so much fun @ktfran! I somehow ended up on their E-mail list (the Galapagos island tourism industry/board?). It looks so beautiful. It is def a place I want to go sometime. I’m ready to start planning our next getaway but IDK what that is yet. My spouse turns 50 in December and I’d like to do something for his birthday.

Sorry your whole family has Covid @Vathena! I don’t know how I have not gotten it yet, but I haven’t. And I am IC. I sometimes where a mask in the grocery store and sometimes I forget. I think it really is luck at this point. With the new variant being more contagious, I’m going to try and be more diligent about wearing it at grocery stores, etc. for a while. And I will wear one at work when school starts up again. Kids come from all over for college so I’m sure many will be bringing it with them.

That’s crazy your friend has it for the third time! I do keep hearing about people getting repeat infections though. I hope your friend recovers quickly!

And so glad your niece could get the vaccine @KTfran! That’s exciting.
