Both my daughters came down with COVID though from different sources. I was really worried I or my husband would have it because we spent time with them last week but both tested negative with no symptoms either. I was boosted in November and husband boosted last week (he did have side effects from that). I feel like we were just really lucky. One daughter is finally feeling better but the other is still having a hard time (she is vaxxed) with a continuous throbbing headache the worse symptom.

Then today my MIL calls me saying her blood pressure is through the roof and her left arm is all tingly and numb – I tried convincing her to go to the hospital but nope, she wanted to call the doctors office first…who then told her to go to the hospital. Haven’t heard yet so I’m hoping she is ok. I know a lot of hospitals are spilling over, I’m just hoping the one she went to is not and she’s been seen already.

Can’t wait to hear about the Christmas special @BGM!

Partner and I are thinking about driving home to see fam the last week of the year but can’t decide…it’s a 12 hour drive (usually we drive straight there the first day and divide the way back into 2 days). The older we get, the harder those long drives seem to get. And driving we don’t see as many people as flying. Even though they are all vaccinated (mostly) the entire state has low vaccination rates so I’m not sure I feel comfortable doing certain things (restaurants, etc). And no one wears masks anywhere there anymore.

All students and employees must be vaccinated where I work. And right now Colorado itself is seeing a surge. We are supposed to go see a show Thursday night – Alton Brown! We really like him 🙂 Anyway, the venu isn’t requiring masks for all – just going by the CDC guidelines that if your vaxed you don’t have to wear a mask. But our cases here are surging so I find it really, really stupid. We will still go, but wear masks anyway. At least food isn’t allowed so no chomping on popcorn like a movie theater!

Everyone here at work is required to be vaccinated and wear a mask indoors. I know wearing the mask has helped because I’ve helped several students (not socially distant but wearing masks) who emailed me the next day saying they have COVID. We had so many cases the last two weeks from parties…so it’s still a very real thing even if vaccinated. College kids are dumb. 🙂 Anyway, if my work suddenly decided to not require masks I’d request to work from home or have to quit. I’m not working indoors without masks. Not with how it’s all playing out when they get together not wearing masks.

My husband’s local coworkers/boss want to have a Thanksgiving shindig at one of their homes. I really hate having to be put in a position to make a decision!

On the one hand, i’m getting a third dose today. I’m moderately IC so I think I’ll be ok. And we are having my sister and her family in for the week of Thanksgiving…but I’m willing to put myself on the line for family (who are vaccinated). For random coworkers? Not so much. I do know his boss is vaccinated but I also know there are a couple of his coworkers who heavily believe in conspiracy theories and think that COVID isn’t real.

@KTFRAN – We went to Ireland in October 2019 (so glad we got to go before shit hit the fan 🙂 anyway – the raincoat (I bought REI brand) was the best item I could have brought. I wore it literally every day. It also worked well as a wind breaker. We really loved Ireland and would love to go back. I hope you have a fantastic trip!

@Kate – I missed the voting deadline but looked at the pic of your pup anyway and I just wanted to say that was an awesome Halloween costume!! Your pup was just so adorable 🙂

Cases here in Southern Colorado are also going up. I had a MRI (maintenance thing for my chronic condition) scheduled initially for October and then they called and rescheduled for December. Because of COVID and lack of staff. The sad thing is, I wouldn’t even know about the high number of cases if I didn’t work where I work because I don’t think anything COVID related has been in the local news in weeks. So everyone is just assuming all is hunky dory. Hardly any mask wearing in stores…but hospitals are full (or nearly so). I get my booster Thursday and I’m so glad!

Also, I’ve never seen the type of rats y’all are talking about. I’ve been to Chicago and LA but never saw any. I’m kind of glad about that though. My neighbor back in Arkansas had pet rats but I think those are different than the “wild” rats that live in the cities. The pet ones were slightly bigger than a hamster but smaller than a guinea pig. Smart too.

All these bug stories…I’m glad I live in Colorado at the moment (not as many bugs as the humid south)! I’m from Arkansas and lived in the country as a little girl and would play with all the bug-things before I knew I should not. I once stepped on a scorpion that was in my shoe. I was 4 or so and my foot swelled up so big I couldn’t even put on my dad’s shoe.

Once, my mom told me I came running back into the house because my legs were covered in sea ticks. Basically very small ticks crawling all over my legs. I don’t remember but mom said I was terrified. I mean, i think i would still be terrified as an adult too.

I had to be tested for COVID Monday after coming down with something that had similar symptoms. It was negative but I’m struggling to overcome whatever it is. Originally, I had headache, sore throat, cough and I also lost my voice. It has now settled in my sinuses and my other symptoms are gone. I’m glad it’s not Covid but I do wish I knew what it was. I wear a mask wherever I go so I don’t know how I caught this (of course most people don’t wear masks here anymore). Sigh…this just shows that it would be so easy for me to get a breakthrough case if I’m not even more careful. So much for doing more fun stuff again.

I had to look up betadine to be sure I was recalling what it was correctly…and yes, yes I was. I don’t have words.

I went to the dentist this morning (he is vaccinated) and he told me a story about a nurse friend (or client?) of his whose husband nearly died from COVD and she works in the ICU dealing with COVID patients and refuses to get the vaccine. So I would like to be really hopeful about the nearish future but most of the times, I’m just not.
