Harris Walz 2024!
I want to take a moment to publicly express my support for the Harris Walz ticket. In this year’s US presidential election, for those of us who want to make choices about our own bodies without government interference, who want all consenting adults to marry and love who they want without persecution, who want safer gun laws, and better protection for this planet that I hope and pray will be habitable for generations to come, there is just one path forward and this is it.
We are never ever ever going back! Let’s go!
Let us hope not…Me, me, me attitude and criminal behavior and lies and hypocrisy on that side and compassion, hope, inclusiveness and actual moral code on the other…you would think the choice should be obvious.
You would think!
There is an interesting article on DailyKos. The premise is that people do not love tfg because they think he is a good person, but because they think he is powerful. Harris and Walz are hitting where it hurts – he’s now a “weird coward” who says weird shit and is afraid to debate Harris unless he has Fox news protecting him and no fact checking. Where people idolize him, if they see him as weak, they may just not vote.

I just love it!
Canadian here and it’s so hopeful now I simply cannot imagine ‘it’ getting in again waiting for the blue wave go Harris and Walz.
I really feel like this is a moment and a movement and it’s wonderful to have HOPE again. Thank you for the support from Canada!
I am Canadian too! What is scary is that even when Harris wins, Dumpty will still try to press the same B.S. about rigging..it like the crap cycle will never end. A dangerous problem.
I am Canadian too! What is scary is that even when Harris wins, Dumpty will continue the same whining and rigging talk B.S.. So the crap cycle will continue and is very dangerous.
I am canadian as well. You cound like a child repeating a bully chant in order not to stick out and get bullied yourself.
I didn’t know much about Walz until the past few days, but the more I learn about him, the more I like him. I’m hopeful. This feels like a step toward the change some of us younger folks have been screaming into the void about for a long time.
I’ve read a couple headlines and short articles about how republicans feel like Trump is in meltdown mode. Does anyone here have a sense for how true that feeling is within the party? I truly cannot tell since the guy has always been a tantrum-throwing nutjob.
It would seem that #trumpisacoward is trending on Truth Social… so maybe?

I am energized, and I no longer dread reading the news. I am delighted with Harris. Her team is clearly on top of everything. They are responding faster than lighting. Communications from the Harris team fall into “You seeing this nonsense?” (an aside to us) or “Is that all you got?” and I am loving it.
Walz is a breath of fresh air. White dude who isn’t afraid of listening to others, being empathetic and saying “I’m sorry”. This is the guy you want in your car on a road trip, at your table at a wedding or talking to while waiting online for a hotdog at a baseball game. He’s that guy.
Harris is collecting voters as if she’s a kid in a comic book shop with a stack of babysitting money. She’s got Black Women for Harris, Black Men for Harris, White Women for Harris, White Dudes for Harris, she’s got the major worker unions, she’ll have the teachers’ unions if they haven’t committed yet, (I mean, she’d have them anyway even if she didn’t pick Walz). She’s got Republicans for Harris! And I think she is going to have a lot of secret voters, women who will say one thing to their husbands and vote differently when in the booth.
I’m from Mankato, the town where Walz taught school. I know *a lot* of people who know him personally. Walz is a real one. There is absolutely nothing phony about him. Everyone I know who has had any sort of real interaction with him is absolutelly stoked.
I love to hear that he is as genuine as he appears to be!
I am a registered Independent. For those expressing excitement about Harris as a presidential candidate: Can you give specific examples of what you like about her? Or is it mainly that she seems to be more appealing than Biden, thereby giving Democrats a better chance at staying in the White House? I guess part of what I’m asking is, would you be this enthusiastic about any candidate instead of Biden, or is there something specific and concrete about Harris that made you hope, before Biden dropped out, that Harris would take his place?
I can’t speak for others, but I don’t see this race as a cult of personality thing (on the dem side). Unlike in ’08, when Obama was a clear star and the movement was really about HIM and the hope HE brought us, this current movement – and it really feels like a movement – is about US. Harris and Walz seem great, but I’d vote for a moldy toad stool over Trump. What I am so thrilled about is how unified the dems are, how laser focused we are not just on defeating Trump and saving democracy, but progressing our shared collective values: the freedom to make decisions about our bodies without government interference; protecting our planet; creating safer gun laws; and keeping the right to love and marry whom we choose, as consenting adults, without persecution.
I like Biden, too, and think he’s been an excellent and underrated president, but he’s too fucking old and doesn’t bring the enthusiasm this new ticket does. And I say that as someone who was really opposed to him dropping out. I felt he was bullied into it and stabbed in the back by people he’d worked with for decades. I still don’t like the way it went down, but my biggest worry about him dropping out was that the dems would continue their infighting and waste precious time instead of immediately coalescing around one candidate and committing to working out the details of our differences after winning the election. Thanks to Biden’s brilliant timing in endorsing Harris, that didn’t happen. I have been really heartened and re-inspired by the immediate and clearly overwhelming support for Harris and now Walz. I feel hope I haven’t felt in ages, and I have faith and trust in Kamala. I think she’s handled the past few weeks expertly and I’m excited to see what she does over the next months and years.
If this were a green field pick, I don’t know if I would pick her over someone else. But as I sit here and think about who else it could be I’ve run through the current slate of Democrats and the only one I might consider a better pick would be Corey Booker. So what do I like about her?
Her experience as a prosecutor and a senator, her intelligence, her determination. She also has that innate “we are not amused”-ness that women in leadership acquire and I love that. I like her policies: rights for people to police their own bodies, manage the borders (aka people are not “illegal” but we can better manage people coming into the country who want to be citizens and do better to reduce drugs coming into the country); education and health care are rights, not privileges. That a hospital stay shouldn’t preclude you from ever buying a house because your credit is ruined (see health care as a right).
And to top it all off, part of me really giggles thinking about Doug Emhoff, First Gentleman, doing the annual tour of the White House Christmas decorations and showing off the tree and the menorah.
Love that image of First Gentleman, Doug, showing off the tree and menorah!
With Harris, I’ve long accepted that there will never be a president who supports my actual beliefs, but she’s the closest that has the most realistic chance.
I voted for Nader in 2000 and it’s the only vote I deeply regret. I’ll never vote for a third party candidate again.
I also like that she’s not a convicted felon or a rapist.
With Walz, as someone from the community that he taught in with very close relationships with people who have known him personally, I am 100% confident that he is a good man. He’s done an overall great job as governor and has spearheaded a lot of great policy. While our neighbors and Wisconsin and the Dakotas have enacted a lot of terrifying policies, Minnesota has become a safe haven of queer and abortion rights. I have proudly voted for Walz at every opportunity and can’t wait to do so again at the federal level.
I’d be lying if I said I’d vote for literally anyone who wasn’t Donald Trump though.
Walz risked it all when he ran for congress by openly supporting gay marriage in a district that most definitely did not support gay marriage overall. He won anyway. Dude is pure political courage.
He is a gem!!!

Two more points to share that add to my hope:
1. In 2016 one of the factors that pushed tfg’s win was the ground coverage – he went all over the country. But he never paid cities their bills. Now cities want payment up front (plus any owed fees) and he can’t pay. All the money is going to legal bills.
2. All the money is going to legal bills. Not just his campaign’s money – a significant portion of the RNC’s money is funneled to the orange faced fraudster and not to all of the state and local level campaigns. The RNC made a deal with the devil. Anywhere they have a vulnerable candidate that candidate now gets a fraction of what they’d normally get. So we may see some seats flip because the DNC can outspend in those areas (Texas, Florida, Montana).
Great points!
Oops – Montana isn’t a flip, it’s vulnerable against Tester but as we saw, tfg’s not pulling big crowds in Montana (and the whole flying into an airport further away is suspected to be because he owes the Bozeman airport refueling charges and there is a different supplier at Billings).
I am so excited and hopeful too! I am a Michigan voter.
An idea from a friend
When watching YouTube if you see any trump ads watch them in their entirety and click on links. His campaign needs to pay for each click!
Not voting for Harris. None of her beliefs align with mine. Walz is just ugh. Friends in Minnesota are looking to relocate to another state soon because of the way everything is going there.
You do you, Lauren, but for those of us prioritizing a woman’s autonomy over her own body, climate change protections, and safer gun laws, Harris’ values align with our own. We also think Walz is fantastic and can’t wait to enjoy some of what Minnesotans have been lucky enough to experience under his leadership.
What are your beliefs Lauren?
I didn’t think this site was for politics? Blergh… I’m a childless cat lady and I’m voting for Trump and Vance anyway. (Singles can be conservative, too!)
I just saw a piece on Trump supporters. They spoke of how unifying Trump is…another one of the delusions his supporters appear to have developed. How can someone ( Trump ) who openly rails against so many groups and sectors of society be a person that unifies people? Maybe supporters mean that Trump unites them in their beliefs that trans, gay, immigrants, people of colour and war heroes are “lesser” somehow and are somehow dangerous. It is beyond baffling to me. Or that evangelicals compare him as an equal to Jesus.
I watched parts of the DNC this week, mostly the day after but I committed to watching her speech on Thursday. It was a fantastic speech btw. I know there is a long road ahead and that the GOP is going to do everything in their power to cut voter rolls (reminder: please check your voting status, repeatedly, if you are eligible to vote to confirm you remain eligible to vote).
But damn, the roll call? Electric. The Obamas? Holy cannoli. The number of Republicans who stood up to say – there is only one choice… never before in the history of this country.
Harris’ campaign is preparing for GOP shenanigans. They have 10x the number of lawyers that Biden did in 2020. They will be spreading across the states. With over a half a billion dollars donated in the last month (holy shit!) they have the funds to put an army of lawyers out there. But that half a billion doesn’t stay with Harris – see my note above. They will take a significant portion of that money and feed it into Arizona, Texas, Virginia and other states where they can pick up seats. They know the importance of the down ballot to pick up congressional seats to enable Harris to push through legislation. I remain hopeful.

Sending you love from England. Go Harris and Walz!
