I’m going to take a few weeks off from dating – probably through Labor Day and maybe even longer, depending – to process my breakup and make sure I’m ready…but after that, I think it’s time to try something different than OKCupid. Has anyone had any luck with Match lately?
I mean, I’m a Match believer, but I’ve only heard negative things on here recently about it (my experience was 5 years ago). I would say give it a try, it’s probably a little different depending on where you live. I always think paid sites have less time-wasters than free sites or apps.
August 17, 2017 at 2:45 pm #697529LadyE, my friend is using Match right now, and she’s had some better luck there than on dating apps and such. She has found the men seem to be more serious about meeting up and actually are interested in dating/a relationship.
Now again, 5 years ago, but I met a better caliber of quality men on Match and that weird, also paid, sister site chemistry.com, than I ever did on OKC. In fact, though I know there were MORE guys on OKC, I went on fewer dates from there and was less interested in the guys I met.
I know a handful of people who have had success on Match. A few who are now married and met years ago. The most recent meeting two years ago and getting married in October.
I was just going to say I know one couple who met through OkCupid and is now married with a daughter, but no, that’s wrong. They met in a bar. I was with her. She used Ok a lot though prior to that.
@TheLadyE I met a long-term boyfriend on Match once, but that was years ago in the suburbs in a different state from where I live now. I recently joined up again in my current city (major U.S. city) and dislike the selection of men. A lot of them give out lonely/desperate vibes, and they make me sad. I’m kinda stuck with the subscription for the time being since I paid up-front for a package that lasts for I think six months. Whoops!
I’m positive I’ve said this on here before, but I’ll say it again: I believe you can meet the right person for you on any one of these sites/apps. There are men you wouldn’t touch with a 10-foot pole on ALL of these sites, though. (I tried OKCupid and sorting through the riffraff was exhausting.) I know people who have had LTRs with men and women they’ve met on Match, E-Harmony, OKCupid, and even Tinder. Some are married, some aren’t. I think usage varies by city/region, so I’d pay for maybe a month up-front and if you like it, get a longer package. (That’s what I wish I’d done.)
TheLadyEAugust 17, 2017 at 4:16 pm #697544Yeah, I have met several guys with whom I’ve had relationships on OKCupid, so maybe it’s just that I haven’t met the right person yet rather than the app/site, but at this point I feel like I’m looking at all the same guys over and over on OKC. I’ve also found in general that the men on OKC tend to be emotionally immature/unavailable, my most recent ex being a perfect example, but maybe, again, I just haven’t *met the right one* yet, who knows.
TheHizzyAugust 18, 2017 at 1:32 pm #697636And we’re both going to Hawaii in November! Woohoo!!
I never had luck with Match or eHarmony. My single friends use OKCupid a lot with more success. But I know several are out there looking for a LTR but also just dating “temporaries” know they are just that.
August 18, 2017 at 2:18 pm #697645Hawaiii!! yay that will be so fun, TheHizzy. We’re going the first full week of December
I’m so sorry to hear about the bust, LadyE 🙁
Also, things sounds fun, Copa! Hope they keep progressing 🙂 maybe at least you made some friends? (from his friends)?
