@MissDre – I’m so glad this is working out for you! I don’t comment on this thread much since I’m married but I had to just say I’m happy for you. And it is the little things that count. When is he visiting here?
@Copa – you have to tell us how your date went!
And happy Friday the 13th to everyone 🙂
MissDreOctober 13, 2017 at 10:36 am #723279Thanks Rangerchic!
We’re meeting up in London next month so we can be together to celebrate 1 year since we met (that sounds totally cheesy, we actually just didn’t want to wait 3.5 months between visits and this visit conveniently falls at the 1 year mark).
Then he’ll be coming here for Christmas 🙂
@Rangerchic The last date was also great, thanks for asking! We went out for Thai and then back to his place to “watch TV.” He works in a consulting-type role, and has a late-night call with someone in India on Wednesday. Soooo we’ll be cooking dinner together and hanging out until he has to go “back to work.” On Friday, I have a fancy-pants work event. He hinted to ask if I get a +1 (I don’t), but right now we have tentative plans to meet when I’m done and grab a drink at a hotel bar, then head back to my place. I hope it happens — I don’t know when I’ll be done and have to play it by ear and won’t be upset if he’d rather make, y’know, real plans instead of waiting on my texts.
ON THAT NOTE. I have plans with A.T. on Saturday but I’m debating canceling because, I mean, I like him and have fun with him, too — but I like this other guy more. I know I’m not doing anything wrong because I haven’t discussed exclusivity with either of them, but knowing I like the other guy more makes me feel guilty and like I’m leading A.T. on.
TheHizzyOctober 18, 2017 at 11:24 am #723771So I am now a week and 2 days out of back surgery. I was so severe of a case I lost feeling on my left leg some (mostly the outer part). I still have a lot of pain on my left side that is slowly going away, that will take time, and the BF is a saint and taking really good care of me. He actually lotion-ed and massaged my legs last night, it felt amazing. I can’t touch the lower part of them yet and I’m in compression socks like ALL THE TIME to help so they’re pretty dry. No more back pain, eventually I’ll get an RX for PT and be on the mend. If anyone here ever has to go and do back surgery this is what I warn you-
1 – They’ll get you up and moving that first day and it’ll feel like shit.
2 – FORCE yourself to keep moving each day thereafter no matter how tired and exhausted you feel
3 – You’re going to feel less than human because you can’t bend, lift, roll over, move your body, feed yourself, or hardly do anything most humans can
4 – Accept the help of your loved ones – they just want to help
5 – Don’t go to far down that dark hole, it’s easy to do
6 – Wait one day longer than you want to to start doing stuff (I started driving 1 day too soon, tried to go back to work one day too soon, tried to fully dress myself one day too soon)October 18, 2017 at 4:29 pm #723834@theHizzy – sorry you had to have back surgery – sounds awful! I wish you a speed(ier) recovery! My MIL had back surgery a few years ago – the one where they fuse the lower part of your spine together. She still has a hard time getting around.
@Copa – thanks for the update! Glad things are going well. 🙂
I’m trying the Whole30 diet. Started yesterday. I have Crohn’s and I really hope this helps. i’ve been having a lot of flare-ups and I really don’t want to increase my meds without exhausting all other options. Plus – it will be good to break my sugar addiction (hopefully). I really love bread but I can give it up for 30 days to see if my symptoms improve. I don’t think I’ll sustain that exact lifestyle for all eternity (hello cheese!) but I don’t want to be sugar dependent so…here goes!
@TheHizzy I’m glad you’re on the mend! That sounds super painful! I’ve been forced out of bed within about 12 hours of both abdominal surgeries I’ve had, but it’s good to keep moving (within reason/within your limits). Even if it’s slow. I’m also glad it sounds like you have a good support system while you recover.
@Rangerchic I loved Whole30! If it weren’t so strict/if I had it in me to cook literally every meal at home, I’d eat like that all the time.MissDreOctober 18, 2017 at 5:05 pm #723839Same old same old! Boyfriend just booked his flight to Canada for Christmas. Super excited for him to see where I live, meet my cats and meet my mom.
And I’m super excited for our trip to England next month! I’m looking at a new fall coat and a pair of over-the-knee boots that I want to buy for the trip.
In non-relationship news, I’m working on starting my own business! Which I hope will start seeing some profit by next summer so that I won’t need to worry about income or work visa bullshit if/when I move to Scotland.
AND I have a HUGE presentation at work tomorrow. Pitching to the president of a big national company and the account reps decided they want me to give the presentation because I did all the research… so yeah, I’m terrified lol.
@Rangerchic my friend did the whole 30 and she said it was hard but also really beneficial to her. But she didn’t continue after the 30 days.C.T. spent the night for the first time last night. It was fun. We cooked dinner together last night, watched TV, etc. It was fun. It would’ve been nice to spend a lazy morning in bed together, and to cook breakfast together, but we both work. He’s a cuddly sleeper, like all night long cuddly, which is new to me. But I liked it. 🙂
@Dre Sounds like fun. England will be great, and Christmas sounds like it’s shaping up to be a good time, too. Good luck with your presentation. 🙂
TheHizzyOctober 19, 2017 at 12:52 pm #723935@MissDre I’ve been watching a LOT of 90 day fiance while being laid up….like a LOT. I know you guys have discussed you moving there and you wanting to be engaged or even married before. Does England do something similar to the US K-1 Visa? They say the process is hard here because a handful are for fraud reasons.
MissDreOctober 19, 2017 at 1:00 pm #723936@TheHizzy I haven’t looked into it extensively (bookmarked some pages but haven’t done a ton of research) but! As a tourist I can spend up to 6 months in the UK at a time, no questions asked.
If I wanted to find a job in my field, my understanding is that A) I would need to find a company willing to sponsor me and B) that company needs to make a case to immigration that they can’t find a qualified citizen to fill the role and then C) I would apply for a work visa using that sponsorship.
BUT they have this thing called a Spouse Visa where, if we were married, I would automatically be granted a work visa for 18-22 months (or something like that) simply because he’s there on a 5-year work visa.
I have two friends who have left fot the UK, one married to a british man and the other one married to a friend of mine, both of them from our country. For my friend who married a british man, the process to get a visa was super long, even after they were married she couldn’t go with him and had to stay here for six months. She was allowed to work until after they had been married two years. Getting the visa was hard because he had to prove that he could provide for her.
The other one met and married a friend of mine who went to the UK to get his PhD. They met there, married here and a month later she had her visa to go join him. They both have work and study visas, and the process was much easier. -
