@veritek Yay! That’s a good update. Glad you’re happy. Also, re: desperation, I think it largely has to do with behavior. I’m not immune to *thinking* pitiful or desperate things, but have way too much pride to act on them.
@MoneyPenny I probably won’t have time this trip since it’s around Fourth of July, there’s a wedding involved, and it’ll be one of those rare occasions where my whole family is there. But I’m in SF several times a year usually to visit family — so the next trip! 🙂
@shakeourtree If you need Chicago recommendations, lemme know! I also haven’t done a ton of solo travels, and feel like I should do more of it, so I’m curious what others will recommend.KMay 2, 2018 at 3:33 pm #751712Thanks @Kate! That does sound lovely. I’m more immediately interested in the Naples/Amalfi coast area since my grandpa was born in a small village near Naples, and immigrated to the US through Ellis Island when he was 12. I’d love to visit his village. My aunt did, like 15 years ago. Pompeii is near that area as well. As always, too many options, not enough vacation time/money…
@shakeourtree, are you interested in art/museums/large cities, or wilderness areas/National Parks and smaller towns, or a bit of both?May 2, 2018 at 6:45 pm #751732@veritek I hear ya on debt. I am trying desperately to pay off my mastercard and get that under control. I was pretty transparent with my money woes with my BF and it was hard to open up about something so personal and daunting to him. So I think once I finally get it paid off we will celebrate. But it is so damn hard! I paid off some money for it then other stuff gets put on due to physio and work stuff.
No big trips planned for the near future, I have one I am kind of planning with my friend in the fall for PEI in the maritimes, as we are both Anne of Green Gables fans. I want to try and do something with my BF, as we keep talking about NY, but waiting on cheap flights to get there from Alberta. But then my mom and brother want to visit me, so not really sure how my last week of vacation will turn out.
@cleo, I was in the same boat. I entered our relationship with cc debt. I think that was the hardest conversation I had with the husband. It was before we were engaged. In June, it will finally be paid in full! We’re celebrating with a nice bottle of wine we picked up in Napa two weeks before he proposed.
We didn’t cut down on vacations because that is something the husband loves. I did cut down on clothes and going out and all those extras.
May 2, 2018 at 8:37 pm #751741Cleopatra, that is SO cool you’re going to PEI – the Anne of Green Gables nerd in me is very jealous. 🙂
Copa, sounds good- next time for sure!
MissD, have fun in the UK with your bf!!
I’m also working on paying off my debt- my credit card will be paid off by the end of this year, god willing. After that, I’ll pay off my car. And then go on a nice, long, vacation!Aw Ver I am so happy to hear your update! Curious, what’s your communication during the week like? How often do you talk on the phone? My guy and I are about twenty min drive which is nothing I know but since we have our own activities at night we tend to see each other on weekends only. We text everyday and usually have a phone call in the middle of the week. Though last night we met up for a quick ice cream which was lovely!
Hope your PEI trip works out Cleo! Such a gorgeous place.
Have fun MissD!!
May 3, 2018 at 8:07 am #751782I have been cutting back on frivolous spending as well, really analyzing what I spend, and then making sure I only have enough for the essentials to keep me on track. I will probably have a big slice of cake and wine to celebrate haha
@moneypenny, We had the Calgary comic con this past weekend and I got to meet Megan Follows! Got my friend a signed autograph for her, as she has been following her career more than I have 😛 Very sweet lady 🙂My friend and I have been sharing posts and pictures of PEI and hyping ourselves up for it 🙂
May 3, 2018 at 9:39 am #751788Cleopatra – I’m doing the maritimes in July! Super excited 🙂 staying at a distillery in nova scotia for a few days too
KMay 3, 2018 at 11:29 am #751793@shakeourtree, August is a great time to visit the Pacific Northwest. Portland and Seattle are great cities and they have lots of recreational opportunities not far from the cities. Mount Rainier National Park (my favorite national park!) is 2 hours from Seattle and 2.5 hours from Portland. The Washington and Oregon coasts are also beautiful.
