@Copa yeah I have used it in the past and I’ve had good results. I was reading a couple articles just last week about people fighting charges with them because it was lost. I am pretty regularly looking at their “sale” on the page for any dresses I want to purchase myself for a fraction!
I’ve also started using Poskmark. I was in a wedding in June and she wanted us in silver shoes. I’m 32, I don’t wear heels anymore let alone silver shoes. I got some silver ones on there for $8 that were pretty cute, mostly comfortable, and fit in!
I went through a big Poshmark phase a few years ago. I sold all this stuff I wasn’t wearing anymore, a few handbags, my wedding dress, and all my old gold jewelry from high school and stuff. People were buying that jewelry up like hotcakes. I felt like I was missing something. Maybe I was, but I looked up the price of gold and did my best to weigh the pieces so I felt I was asking the right price. My mom gave me stuff to sell too. I ended up selling thousands of dollars on there and becoming a top 10% seller.
I’ve had ok luck buying things on there too, it’s just if a dress doesn’t really fit you, you can’t return it. But if you know what you’re looking for and what fits you and you’re careful, you can do well buying clothes in good condition for a fraction of the cost.
I used Tradesy some too at that time. Their commission structure was different, and some people would ask me on Poshmark if I could list an item on Tradesy. It was fine. I just don’t really want to spend the time browsing through people’s pre-loved items unless I’m looking for something very specific that I can’t find anywhere else. Not that I don’t have the time, I just don’t enjoy the act of shopping very much.
I do think Poshmark was pretty good about making things right if you got scammed. Their customer service is pretty responsive.
JDJanuary 8, 2019 at 9:08 am #814875I feel ya. I love shopping but online shopping exhausts me. Pages and pages. I usually was pretty specific in what I was looking for but I can’t browse for more than a few pages without boredom. Luckily Nordstrom gives good recommendations based on purchases and such, which probably explains why I online shop there the most.
LisforLeslieJanuary 8, 2019 at 9:25 am #814879My sister really likes StitchFix and she also uses a dress rental company. She has a lot of events between her work and her husband’s work/local service. The dresses are gorgeous, fit her teeny tiny frame very well and she doesn’t need to store it, clean it, or wonder when she’s going to wear it again and “get her money’s worth”.
Me: I’m just trying to find a pair of freaking navy chinos and my go-to Lands End is being stupid by not having options. Stupid Lands End. I may have to Eddie Bauer this one.
A friend of mine really likes ThredUp for gently used or the occasional NWT clothing. They accept returns. I might look there for shorts for Cape Town cause it’ll be hot and I don’t own many pairs, and don’t really like the ones I own, but it’ll be hot to walk around in pants all day there.
Today is day 8 of my Whole30. I am wearing the same dress pants I worse last Wednesday and they’re no longer snug af, thank goodness. I know it’s just water weight at this point, but it’s motivating as I head into week two! I think I’ll use these pants as a measure of progress.
LisforLeslieJanuary 8, 2019 at 12:22 pm #814896@Copa – I think it was on Buzzfeed there was a “get healthy” article and people (mostly women) were posting their before/after where they weighed as much or more but had been working out thereby increasing muscle mass but being more fit and in many cases, more trim.
Ignore the damn numbers.
