Ugh @veritek33 I can’t think of anything i want to do less than go to a wedding at Disney World, let alone peak tourist season. Heck, just going to FL period. I know adults can be really into the Disney thing but I don’t get it, then again I was a kid who was never super into “kid” stuff quite the same way most seem to be. Also, I can’t imagine wanting a wedding with thousands of tourists, kids, etc. running around in the back round. You have my sympathy. Can you piggyback since you area already in FL and fly out to Bahamas or VI or something? 😉
@Rangerchick I have had three boxes total from Stitch, with a year in between the first two and this last one. The first two were awful. I have a large bust and they sent me these itty bitty tank tops that the girls wouldn’t even stay in. Then when I mentioned that they in turn sent me clothes my grandmother would wear. I tried one more time since I can’t shop many places here and was exhausted with scrolling through pages online and it was better, but I mean, sweaters aren’t super difficult to screw up.
Trunk Club was way better as it was brands I already shop at Nords, more on line with what I like…minus these ridiculously hideous jeans. I said no high waist and that I am short waisted as it is (so high waist on me go to the boobs it feels) and she sent the most hideous high waist, straight leg, cropped jeans in a very faded wash. I tried them on in case I just was totally wrong, but I was not.
@JD they are obsessed with Disney. And to an extent, I get it. MofV and I have been considering breweries and wineries because that’s our thing and what we obsess about. But it’s gonna be hot and there will be children everywhere and I’ve been to DW as an adult and unless you have a kid with you, it’s just not that magic to me.
If I can turn this into a vacation, that’d be awesome. But our plan was to get married sometime next year too, so we can’t really afford to do multiple trips if we want a wedding and honey moon.
I would want some updated Mickey Mouse ears though. Mine are 30 years old.
@veritek33 Oh I did get updated ears too last time I went! I’d say mine were also about 30 years old. My company did a thing where they send staff after the park technically closes (Land not World) for about two hours. That’s about the only way you’d get me to go. I have an itty bitty head so I was able to get the cute kids ones, and of course had my name embroidered.
Ugh. Yeah. I wouldn’t want to go to a wedding at Disney World, either. One of my friends moved to Florida several years ago and met her now-fiance there. They go to Disney World VERY often, just the two of them for funsies, and I don’t get it at all. When I was a kid, we lived not too far from Disneyland, so we had season passes and I have super fond memories, so I’d go back as an adult given the opportunity for the nostalgia factor (Disneyland only, though). But I’d do it once. I wouldn’t want to be going there every six weeks with my boyfriend. They don’t even live THAT close (I think they’re still a 3-4 hour drive). They’ve been together a few years now and I still find it perplexing. And as far as getting engaged “too soon” and stepping on her toes, I think that’s a bit ridiculous assuming you’re not getting engaged at her wedding or an event in her honor.
@JD that’s pretty cool! I went about five years ago to visit my cousin who works for the parks and we got in free and got to use her discount so I bought some sparkly gold ears. But If I’m going, I want the old school black ears like I got when I was 4 at Disneyland and had my name embroidered on 🙂
January 31, 2019 at 3:34 pm #828444@Veritek that to me is awful as welL! My brother and is wife LOVE Disney (they’ve already taken their two kids at the ripe old ages of 5&6 – they actually didn’t have a very good time it was so overwhelming for them!).
I have never been and never wanted to go.
I have been to Universal (w/Husband and two kids plus friend – but they were older – teenagers at least). I loved Universal. But we went at the very end of May/1st of June so just before peak season. Disney during peak season…you have my sympathies!
@copa totally. MofV mentioned to his parents we were looking at rings and they cautioned him to wait a bit to let the excitement die down from her engagement so she wouldn’t get her feelings hurt. It never occurred to me that might upset her but he said after thinking about it, it’s totally something that would bother her.
So I have no idea what the correct/respectful amount of time is
January 31, 2019 at 3:37 pm #828448I’ve never heard of being upset about someone else getting engaged to close to someone else in the family being a thing until I started reading advice columns. It kind of blew my mind. Should you be happy for the other important people in your life? Geez
I say get engaged when you guys are ready. Is her wedding this summer fall? (I’m not sure what peak season at Disney World is.) Cause it’s ridiculous to think that any time between now and after the excitement of her wedding day has died off would be inappropriate and disrespectful. Last time I checked, people can be excited about two weddings at the same time.
I mean I will say, though, I’m sometimes surprised at what has offended me regarding weddings. And I’m not even married or close! I recently found out that the aforementioned Disney World friend, who is getting married in June, has decided to invite everyone in my nuclear family except my dad. Our families have lived across the street from one another for over 20 years. I’ve known her most of my life. Our families have vacationed together. My dad shovels their snow sometimes. I know it’s not my business who she invites, but I think it’s tacky and found myself offended.
The wedding is next May right after most schools let out for the summer. MofV and I wanted to live together for a month or two before becoming engaged. So I figured 2-3 months after her would be no big deal. I honestly don’t know at this point.
I love her but she clearly is her parent’s favorite – it’s obvious to everyone. So that just makes me sad for him.
