First date was at Bodega Sur, if that’s the one you’re thinking about, and Tango Sur is the restaurant! As an aside, it looks like Folklore is also under the same ownership, which my hair dresser is always raving about.

That was my guess! Love Tango Sur. And especially love that little market next door. I haven’t been to the others yet.

Bodega Sur was a blur, though I’m sure it was good. (I may or may not have had more wine than I should’ve on our first date. Ooooops!) I’ll have to check out the market. He lives a 10-minute walk from there. I love that area. I wish he was slightly closer to Southport Corridor, but it’s a great area and I’m excited to explore it more when the weather warms up.

We recently-ish tried a Venezuelan place near him, BienMeSabe on Montrose, at someone’s recommendation and I didn’t really like it. I was shocked when I saw all the great reviews of it online. Might just be me though!

I haven’t been to that place. Bummer you didn’t care for it.

Before the husband, I was at Ashland and Grace, so right at the Southport Corridor. My yoga studio, which I miss terribly, was at Irving and Southport and all the instructors were so, so nice and helpful. You should check it out if you find yourself staying with the BF often.

I miss that neighborhood, although more the surrounding area than Southport. I feel that it’s now too commercialized. It’s losing character.

I also miss being so close to Lincoln Square. And I miss Loba Pastry + Coffee. That was my stop on the way home from the grocery store every Sunday. My stop in the new neighborhood is La Colombe. Not quite the same, but does the trick.

Margies candies… yum!!!! Ages ago, a couple friends and I were going to see a movie and wanted to take ice cream from Margies. They wrapped it up for us in a way that it didn’t melt and we took it into the theater. It was wonderful. I forget the movie now. Hmmmm.

There are also so many good breweries. You’ll love that neighborhood this summer.

He’s just north of Irving Park, but not far from where you were! We do spend more time at his place since he has more space than I do + a fenced yard that benefits my doggo. We were a slow burn kinda couple, gradually spending more and more time together, and I still feel like I don’t know his area at all because it’s been cold since we decided we were exclusive. I don’t have a car so I really like ease of access to everything where I live (also the draw of Southport Corridor for me). He’s still in a walkable area, but everything I could ever need or want is closer to me from my building than from his.

Ooh, maybe I’ll run into you this summer! One of my close friends is at the Irving/Damen/Lincoln intersection. Speaking of, I love to buy scarves at Embellish on Lincoln.

@Copa we were introduced through a mutual friend. Said mutual friend just REALLY wanted FMH to move to where we live now. Ended up falling in love and getting engaged. He’d always meet me at the airport with tacos. And then…we’d go home and…. 🙂

I don’t remember our first “I love you” or “Engagement anniversary” or anything like that. I remember the feeling I got when he told me he loved me, or the feeling I got when he’d meet me with tacos. I was never good at those milestones. He is. Between the 2 of us, he’s by far the romantic.

Aye. I’m getting all the feels today and remembering this

Hey guys! I’m loving everyone’s updates! Yay! Also all of this talk of Chicago makes me want to visit!
My bf and my first date was the day after Christmas. So that makes it easy to remember! Actually, we first matched and started messaging on Tinder on Christmas Eve (2016), and we chatted again on Christmas night and made plans to have coffee the next day. The date was coffee at a cafe in my neighborhood, followed by a pot of tea at a tea shop down the street, then Thai food for dinner. Followed by Netflix and chilling. Hah. I do remember he was late and I was not optimistic about any of it until probably the third date.

Question for the group: Before you lived together (or if you don’t live together), how many nights a week did/do you spend with your SO? For myself, I’m over at his house 6 nights a week. I take one night off at my place to, you know, swap out my clothes and make sure my roommate still knows what I look like. It kind of became this way because I was having dance rehearsals until 10pm 3x a week and rehearsals on weekends, so it was my way of trying to spend as much time as possible outside of that. I’m ok with it for now, but I’m getting a little tired of schlepping bags.

I only slept over Saturday and Sunday nights. He couldn’t really stay at my place because his truck at that time had a commercial plate on it and it was against my condo association rules. The condo board pres was a dick.

I always had a lot of trouble sleeping with someone else until it became routine. So I wouldn’t sleep well when I stayed over. Had to get used to it.

But everyone is so different, whatever works!

That is a great story, @TheHizzy. I, too, would remember the feeling of a guy picking me up at the airport with tacos.

Very excited for spring/summer and exploring a new area. I’ve lived in the same neighborhood the entire four years I’ve been here. I love it and will miss it if/when I leave, but am excited to explore a new neighborhood in the way you only really do when you live there. The one thing that sucks (not sure if I mentioned on this thread) is that BG recently found out that starting late this month or early next, he’s on the road for work literally every week through the end of June. This was the last straw for him at work — people keep leaving without being replaced so his travel schedule has been increasingly bonkers — and he’s now on the hunt for something new. So maybe all my expectations of sunshine and patios together won’t be what I’m imagining.

That’s such a great date MoneyPenny! Do visit Chicago. We’ll have a meetup! It’s been ages. The last I went to was Kmt’s improv show.

I think we spent four to five nights a week together. Never Sunday night because I wanted to prep for the week. And never Wednesday’s because I tutored.
