I honestly can’t believe the husband went with the blue velvet. Maybe I should go in sales! Kidding.
We’re lucky in that we were able to check it out in store. It was EVEN BETTER in person. Actually, the husband didn’t like it on-line and we thought we were going to go with a different model. It was so comfortable and stylish and pretty.
We were also able to view the two chairs in store. It happens to be about 3/4 miles from our condo. Phew! It’s also right across from where on Windy City Rehab gets a lot of light fixtures and stained glass. That store is now booming.
I personally am a fan of checking it out first if you’re able. You’re right, it is a huge purchase.
I really like those recliners! And the couch. But the recliners don’t look like the typical type that I associate with bachelor pads.
I’d love a new couch! Most of my furniture is stuff I bought when I was on my own for the first time (so, IKEA or otherwise cheaper items) or hand-me-down items from family. (I actually get a lot of compliments on how comfortable my IKEA couch is, though!) It’s nice that my stuff was either (comparatively) inexpensive or free, but my tastes have changed and I now know better what I like. I just resigned my lease for another year so I’m making a few changes/improvements, but have ultimately held off on buying upgrades because I’m waiting until I’m in a more permanent living situation.
@thehizzy, we’re updating our condo room by room. First was the dining room because neither of us had dining room furniture. This year is living room and maybe later this year a couple more pieces for our guest bedroom. Over the next year+ will be art for the walls. Our last room will be our bedroom. I also desperately want to redo our kitchen, but that’s going to take some serious cash. I’m about 4 years out on that one.
We do a lot of our furniture purchases in the spring using tax $ plus my end of the year bonus (which isn’t much, especially after taxes).
ETA: And @Copa, I was the same as you. I wanted to live somewhere more permanent before I spent a lot of money on furniture, etc. The husband and I plan to live in the condo for a really long time, thank goodness.
March 19, 2019 at 3:55 pm #837830Maybe I could convince my husband to take a short trip to Chicago for furniture shopping! hahahahaha – actually we really like Chicago and would love to visit again.
AngeMarch 19, 2019 at 6:40 pm #837844We bought a very stylish couch a few years ago that our cats just LOVED. It was a sort of soft Hessian fabric and apparently felt just like a scratching pole. Once they thoroughly destroyed it we bought a super ugly replacement until we buy a house. I can’t wait to decorate with something actually nice. Now we know which fabrics to avoid as well ? Thankfully husband likes bright fabrics and patterns so we can go a bit nuts.
We had similar to this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Contemporary-Sectional-Sofa-Couch-Chaise-Flip-Up-Headrest-Armrest-Blue-Polyfiber-/201673211535?_ul=AU
But I know we can’t get anything raised off the ground either as they just get in underneath and rip the lining.
Good lord teenagers. Lord help me. Apparently not letting them have soda and saying they should drink water means we don’t allow him to drink anything ever and he’s so thirsty he’s in pain and complaining to his mother who of course is blowing up husbands phone. Never mind the milk, juice and water available…it’s not coke so we are awful parents. My head hurts too bad for this shit tonight.
Guys I’m thinking it would be best to keep this thread about dating, as a resource for people who are dating.
We have a skin care thread and a hair care thread. There could be a home decor thread and a parenting thread and even a LTR thread in General Chat if you want. This dating thread is super long already and would be a better resource for single ppl if it were more topical.
ETA Or just a general “I need to vent” thread. And that can be about anything not dating related or Trump related (there’s a thread for that!)
Thanks!
For anyone that cared- Mom has a new knee now! And I have far better friends than I deserve that have come and visited with her when I was just too exhausted to deal. She might get released today, spend two more nights at my house and then go home. MofV has been super understanding through it all.
MofV got a break last night and was able to go to a sciencey/beer thing so I get a break tonight. Hopefully with wine or a workout involved. I miss the gym so much right now lol.
I know we’ve sort of talked finances on this thread before – anyone have joint accounts? We opened one yesterday separate from our others JUST for paying the household bills. We were tired of him venmo sending me money for bills and literally splitting the bill at the grocery store on two debit cards so we decided on a joint checking. Any tips or tricks from those that have navigated that before?
Great news about your mom @veritek.
Regarding the joint accounts, we got a joint credit card for household expenses. That way we didn’t have to transfer money into a separate account and we just split the bill every month and each paid half. It worked out really well, we got one that got us points at our grocery store so every few months we used the points and got a free week of groceries.
