Eh, I mean, I’m fairly private at work but still have a some pictures in my office. I don’t think they’re hurting my career or revealing too much about my personal life. They were on my desk before I shocked my coworker with my relationship status last month, so they seem to have gone totally unnoticed. The only thing anyone has ever commented on about my workspace is a wooden ranma I hung above my cabinets. I should get some fake plants.

All this to say, I think you can be private but still have a few photos of whatever is important to you. Your pets, your family, your SO, whatever. I had a coworker at my first job who didn’t decorate her office, which is fine, but she still managed to be insufferable about her relationship. (Like one time at a team lunch at a restaurant literally pulled out her laptop to show us a slideshow of her honeymoon. Omg.) Or you can be like me and have a framed picture of your boyfriend and still received surprised looks when you finally mention him.

If anything for @TheLadyE’s situation, I’d be more wary of a close friend becoming my boss at work.

Sometimes I feel for Americans and the work culture that demands so much work for so little return but then I hear about dog memorials. Awwwwww ❤️

Regarding the work pics – I’m also in the camp of a little goes a long way, and it depends on your workplace. For instance, there was a guy at my office who put up a ton of pictures of his kids right after he started, including a closeup pic on his computer desktop (so when his screen was showing it was this HUGE smiling pic of him and his 3 kids at the pool) and it felt so awkward to be talking to him and have these photos staring back at me. It didn’t help that he made a lot of people feel really uncomfortable with his behavior and really rude – he actually wound up getting fired. Good riddance.

I have a couple of pics of my nephews, a drawing from on nephew, and a pic of my old kitty (rip Kitty), and a sticker from my boyfriend’s union (“In union there is strength!”) in a corner of my desk.
But, my office is also one that, when we have our annual company bbq every summer, significant others and kids are always invited, and it’s really fun.

Also, Copa, one of my coworkers brought printed photos from her honeymoon to show at a work happy hour. I had gone traveling around the same time, but I neglected to think that anyone at my office cared that much (eyeroll)…

You guys do you, but women (especially older women) get judged. I think pics of you on a date belong in your insta story or FB (both private), not framed on your desk. I’ve had a pic of my dog in a frame. Now I’ll show someone a pic of my new puppy on my phone. But not of my husband.

Well, I just want to get to the office first. The waiting is so difficult. I was just excited to finally have a desk/office/job again. 🙂 I’ll probably take cues from my boss and other coworkers after I see what the vibe is once I’m there.

Anyone from Florida or travel there a lot? We’ve been informed our hotel stay is taken care of for MofV’s sister’s wedding – which I guess is still happening? – but after we pay for airline tickets, park admission if we choose to spend a day at the parsk and food we will have almost depleted our honeymoon fund.

Where are some fun places in Florida or nearby that we could do for a long weekend or a few days for less than $1000 in May?

The Keys look great, though I’ve never been and don’t know how pricey that gets. I was in Bonita Springs just outside of Ft. Myers for Thanksgiving and actually really liked it (I generally don’t find Florida appealing). Cancun would be a short flight from FL and I always see pretty fantastic RT airfare from where I live, so I assume it’d be similar or even less from Orlando — could be doable if you found good airfare and stayed at an all-inclusive.

There’s always cheap cruises going out of FL all times of the year. Great way to disconnect. Like talking $400 pp for a 5 day cruise!

I’m assuming “Park Admission” it’s Disney (I can’t quite remember) but Orlando to the Keys is a heck of a drive. Could do a road trip down and back.

Yes park admission is Disney. We can get in for the ceremony and then get back in later for the party/reception but the 6 hours in-between we’d have to pay for admission….and we don’t wanna.

One thing I’ve heard is to try and find last minute cruise deals – has anyone had luck with that? Also had St. George Island as a suggestion.

Oh, also — Savannah, GA, is within a few hours drive (I assume) and very charming. I can’t recall when MoV’s sister is getting married, but if it’s not in the middle of summer, I think that’d make a great long weekend trip. I went last Fourth of July and thought I was going to perish in the heat — do not recommend that time of year — but otherwise had a blast.

Charleston also seems charming and worth a long weekend (haven’t been since I was a kid, so I don’t speak from experience), but it’d be a longer drive.
