    Edit
***Your whole dating history will be wrapped up and tucked away forever

Oh Coppa I will be thinking of you while I am sitting on the beach this weekend drinking margaritas with my wife and you will be freezing your a$$ off in Chicago wondering if you should move in your boyfriend or not.

*Copa. Sounds like a pretty lame-ass vacation if you’re with your wife but thinking of the internet folks you like to troll, but you do you! My condolences to your wife.

He lives near Lakeview High. I think it’s a great neighborhood and would be shocked if it takes a long time to sell. It’s close to everything Southport has to offer, the streets are tree-lined and quiet, I love looking at all the crazy single family homes nearby when I walk my dog around there. I’d actually love to find a place together in that area, just a little closer to one of brown line stops for my benefit.

Oh yeah. Not a problem on his end to sell. Just might take awhile to for you two to buy. I’d definitely consider renting. For the reasons stated and so that when you do get engaged/buy a place you’ll love it/not feel rushed. It took us about three months and several failed offers. We got everything on our wish list (except not being on the top floor) and then some. Actually, I didn’t even want to view this place because it wasn’t on the top floor but as soon as I walked in, I fell in love. Our realtor worked some kind of magic so we could get it. He made some kind of deal with the selling agent.

He’s really good BTW. The husband knows him from college and has used him two other times. Several friends, coworkers and family members have used him, all with glowing results. In case you’re ever interested 🙂

The apartment we rented was in a dog-friendly complex with its own little dog park, which was cool. And it had free Starbucks coffee, starting really early. And a gym. And gas grills, which you couldn’t have on your balcony bc of fire code. And garage parking. It was great! We were really happy there.

@ktfran Thanks — I’ll definitely keep that in mind! A trusted and highly recommended real estate agent is something I’m sure I’ll need one of these days.

And yeah, I’m excited at the idea of my scruffy rescue dog becoming a fancy dog if we pick a building that also offers doggie amenities. One friend has a dog play area on her rooftop! But more importantly, I do like the idea of picking something we both like, even if it’s just a rental for a year or two, and making it ours together.

Copa, going back to your question, I ended up moving into the not-yet-Bride-of-Fydodor’s apartment for about six weeks between the sale of my condo and closing on our new condo. Outlr new place seemed super spacious after being in a small one bedroom apartment together for a month.

    So, two things:
    1. If I come visit y’all in Chicago can we all go to this Cabra place? Sounds like everyone loves it. 😀 Maybe we should have a DW destination meetup after 4 years of this thread! I’ve never been to Chicago.

    2. Not me, but my best friend’s sister: @Copa, my best friend’s twin sister has been living with her for the past several years. She and her boyfriend (don’t even get me started how she got on Match.com at 34 and found her husband after 2 weeks I’M NOT BITTER) lived an hour apart for most of their relationship. He started looking for a job in our area. He found one, he moved into the townhouse with my best friend, her husband, his girlfriend/her sister, putting his house on the market and it sold within a few weeks. He has a cat. My best friend and her husband got 2 more cats. So that’s 4 people and 3 cats in a small 3-bedroom townhouse. (My best friend has been losing it a little, lol.) He proposed on Christmas, they found a house within a few weeks, and they’re moving this week/weekend. All in all, about 2 months living with my best friend & her husband.

All that to say – it’s nice if you have something like that. I think people find something temporary while they need to.

Ooh ooh – another friend of mine, who’s my comedy mentor, moved in with her boyfriend after a ridiculously short time, like 8 months of dating – they both broke their leases and moved into a shared rented apartment. (One of their leases may have been up, I can’t say for sure.) Then they got married ~*in secret*~ (it was her third marriage) and told us all 2 months later, and probably after their lease is up this year they’ll get a house.

I would love to move in with my boyfriend in the adjacent town we both want to live in that’s halfway between my house and his apartment now, and get a little bit of a yard for my girls to play in. I’d assume we would rent for the forseeable future. I have a good setup here, though, and it may make more sense for him to live here with me and save money, too. It’s a little early for that conversation, but I’m hopeful. 🙂

Also Kate, I’m not sure if I mentioned but my sister lives in Boston (in Watertown) and I visited her back at the end of October for a long weekend – Halloween weekend. We went on a ferry ride and it almost tipped over! I got a small snippet of Boston and want to go back to experience it more. We went to Eately at the Pru and did a lot of sightseeing. If/when I go back, I would love to have a glass of wine with you!

Wait, WHAT?! Where was this ferry? Was it bad weather? Are you sure it was a ferry and not a duck boat?

Once I was on a ferry going from Newport RI to Block Island for a bachelorette party. There had been a hurricane out at sea, but it was a nice sunny day. However, never in my LIFE have I been on a boat that was bucking around like a mechanical frickin bull like that. Like I thought I was going to get tossed off the deck. I was clinging to a metal railing around the ventilation unit and screaming. Someone handed me a bottle of rum and I would take a swig and scream. I couldn’t believe they would run the ferries under those conditions. People were puking and freaking out. But I never thought it would tip!

Eataly has awesome food. I’m surprised you got in there though, it’s such a shitshow!

Let me know if you do come back.

It was a little ferry that was a tour boat. I’ll have to ask my sister for the name – she bought the tickets. It was very small but had a bar on board (important!) and a tour guide that seemed like he was doing this for fun in retirement. We went through the…locks? I think? And the current swept us up and we hit the side of one of them. I exaggerate slightly when I say we almost tipped BUT we hit the side (MY SIDE OMG) and everyone started screaming. I was like YOU BROUGHT ME ON A DEATH MISSION! but it was ok. Took awhile for the tour guide to get our attention again, though. I also got 3 overpriced drinks while on that tour, haha.

It was a cold, rainy Sunday when we went to Eataly. It seems like you could go there 5 times and never eat or see the same thing. We wanted to go to the top of the Pru for drinks but my sister hadn’t done enough planning. She was frustrated with herself. Next time I’m sure we’ll do more. Just have to get my boyfriend to agree to watch my pups. 🙂 But y’know, I lived in London for a year and I thought I remembered…Boston is a CITY. Raleigh is a small city but you can always find parking and it’s never that crowded, ever. I’ve been living in this bubble for 12 years, apparently. My sister loves it, though. It’s much more liberal and international than our hometown (doesn’t take much).

When’s the best time to come to Chicago? The summertime?
