@Copa. if you need a cleaning lady to do your final moveout clean, I have someone. I’m using her for our own place too. just can’t deal with it this pregnant and rushed.
Our closing was supposed to be tomorrow but still dealing with the nightmare that are our sellers. Had to get a second appraisal. move is currently scheduled for the 23rd.. BUT that means we need that appraisal back today or tomorrow to close by friday or monday. ugh ugh ugh.
also, my husband asked if i plan to just give everythign away because everytime he comes back, i’ve sold something on fb marketplace. We just have so much crap! and i thought we were pretty good about not buying a lot, but it adds up with kid(S)
BG is closing tomorrow and we’re moving in same-day. Not sure if this is how it usually goes, but his buyer wanted a shorter closing period and our new place is unoccupied. Late last week BG learned that the lender was very delayed with something and we thought it might not happen tomorrow after all, that we’d maybe need to move his stuff into my place for a night or two and reschedule the movers, and live in super tight quarters with boxes everywhere… but everything fell back into place. Phew!
BG also hurt his back a few days ago and had to go to urgent care, some kind of nerve issue that might warrant physical therapy, but since we’re moving he keeps testing the limits of the meds he gave them to get the packing done. I’ll be happier and calmer when we’re in.
I’m glad I don’t have a garage/basement/attic because my ‘stuff’ situation would be out of control if I had more storage options! I’m in maybe 600 square feet right now and still have been feeling like the packing is endless. But luckily this means it shouldn’t be too bad to clean once everything is out. I can knock it out in a few hours this weekend and grab any odds and ends that don’t go in the moving truck.
We’ve been selling some of our stuff online, too — tables, couches, beds. The plan was originally to get a new couch but then we saw how behind furniture stores are — so for now we’ll be keeping mine for now with the hopes of ordering a new one sometime this fall and getting it 3-4 months later.
My two girlfriends are I are spending a week at an Airbnb in MI at the end of the month. We’re celebrating all of our 40s plus my friend’s surprise wedding (she held it on her originally scheduled date in a neighbors back yard and parents, officiant and photographer were only in attendance – the pics are gorgeous). I also need a much needed break from work.
Anyway, while I’m gone, the husband is purging the condo and we’re getting it painted, finally, after three years! I can hang pics on the walls!! We also want to turn our basement storage unit into a work out room so we have somewhere to exercise this winter, hence the purging. I have so many books. And three bags of clothes. And shoes. And some combined cooking stuff that we ended up not putting in our kitchen when we moved here.
@ktfran can I ask how you like your velvet couch? I ordered a velvet rocker and so far love it but was also thinking of a couch or sectional, but we have two dogs and a cat and soon a baby will join the mix. Is yours holding up well? Easy to clean?
Oh wow! We did pop into a few furniture stores last month to sit on some couches we’d seen online and liked, get swatches, etc. We were told it normally takes about 6-8 weeks, but because of COVID we were looking at December at the earliest. So we put a pin in couch shopping. If we have to keep my IKEA couch until December, may as well get in and get of space and appropriate sizes. My dog chewed every corner of my couch as a puppy so I tried to order a new couch cover from IKEA, they’re not too expensive… but even that’s on backorder. So, dog-eaten couch for us it is! Thanks to COVID we can’t have any kind of housewarming party aside from having a few people at a time to our rooftop if we so choose, so few people will have to see my couch.
Miss MJSeptember 14, 2020 at 5:19 pm #962170Ver, I inherited my grandmas antique velvet couch and it’s super easy to get dog hair off of. Haven’t had to deal with stains, though. Also, Congratulations!!
And I’m so excited for you, too, Copa! I think it’s good to take time to get a feel for a place before you do too much.
Agree with MissMJ about getting a feel for the place. That’s what the husband and I are doing. We do a little bit every few months so it doesn’t feel overwhelming and so we can afford nicer pieces that we love and will love for a while.
Like if I would have a bought a couch before we moved in, I probably would have picked a sectional. A sectional absolutely wouldn’t work.
September 15, 2020 at 11:02 am #962178I officially just changed out move date to the 28th. Of course this is all pending things actually closing, but it will give us more time to pack and hopefully a weekend with the empty new house to paint the baby and toddler’s rooms.
If you’re in Chicago, I highly recommend the Box Dibs facebook group. Grabbed a bunch of really awesome boxes last night, and planning to give away all of ours this way too.
Yes, furniture takes forever. I’m waiting to pull the trigger on a new twin mattress from costco for our daughter, and thats the quickest delivery i’ve seen (like 5-10 days). Since we have crazy kids, and radiostar is basically saying “NO SPENDING EVER AGAIN.. ha” i may go out to the Cort furniture warehouse and try to get a ‘kid’ couch for the family room
We are in! And we have such a mess. ? We’d set aside a bottle of wine for yesterday night but it took us awhile to find the bottle opener. The pizza we ordered never showed, so we had to cancel and reorder somewhere new and were pretty wine drunk by the time it arrive. It was a fun first night though. We both took the day off to unpack and I (maybe naively) think it will be fun.
The movers loaded up his stuff yesterday before loading up my place, which is on the third floor of a walk-up. I’ve really made an effort to minimize what I own in the past couple years and again the past few weeks. I thought I would for sure be the one of the two of us with more things, but the movers said BG had half a moving truck and I probably had 1/4 or less. So curious what all his stuff is because he got rid of some big items and his condo was always so clutter-free.
