@Cleopatra_30 Unsolicited advice here, but if you have persistent acne that has decided to follow you into adulthood, Accutane was a godsend for me. I started breaking out pretty young and had persistent, though not awful, acne and had tried everything under the sun for years.
BittergaymarkDecember 8, 2020 at 9:18 pm #969512Okay… The title of this thread is now unintentionally darkly hilarious… in the most clueless way. Awesome dates? Really? Can anybody even remember dating awesome or otherwise? How quaint.
That said, I genuinely live reading all the skincare tips as I definitely NEED help. ???. No sarcasm. The tips are tempting.
TheLadyEDecember 9, 2020 at 1:22 am #969584Lol, Mark, I was thinking about that earlier!
Speaking of awesome dates, my boyfriend stopped by unexpectedly for dinner tonight and we spent the evening together. He wore a mask and we kept 6 feet away from each other the whole time. It was so nice to just talk and be together. My little dogs did kiss on him a lot, though. My little Lily, especially, is just ENAMORED with him and always has been.
We’ve been communicating more regularly and our relationship is healing/improving. We talked about the possibility of a vaccine tonight, as I’ll be in the 2nd round of folks who get it since I’m high-risk because of my lung condition. It’s lovely to have a little hope. 🙂
I dunno, some of those bad dates I went on are really seared into my brain. I wish I could forget them. I have not followed this thread from the beginning, I think I joined the party somewhere around page 300, but it’s nice to see that so many of us who weren’t exactly enjoying the slog now have good partners and fulfilling relationships.
Does anyone use a sunscreen that they really love? I use an Aveeno one, but am indifferent to it. It does the job, but I wish it had less of a sunscreen smell.
@Copa, I’ve been using Goop Unseen. I want to try, I think it’s Elta MD. So many people like that one.
Also, Kiehl’s user here. You asked about it @LadyE. What they do really well is moisturizers. I love their Ultra Facial Cream (not the SPF one, it sucks, I wear a full on sunscreen underneath). I also really like their hand cream. And their Creme de Corps for my overall body moisturizer. Serums, I go elsewhere. I need to find a Vitamin C serum I like. I do like the Obagi Retinol cream. I use the 0.5 and only a couple times a week. I have sensitive skin that can dry out really easily.
LisforLeslieDecember 9, 2020 at 11:44 am #969808@Copa the only thing that I’ve really loved is a powder sunscreen, for my face by PeterThomasRoth. I’ve got super oily skin and so if I put on makeup in the morning, even just a tinted sunscreen, I can’t easily reapply sunscreen later without redoing the whole shebang. The sunscreen comes with an autorefill brush and you just poof it over your face. Just don’t let it unscrew in your purse (learned that the hard way).
I prefer the non-tinted but this is what it looks like

I mean, I did go on some awesome dates, along with some really bad ones. Learned something from all of them, and now I’m pretty darn happy so I guess it worked out!
MofV and I are going to do a drive thru Christmas light tour this weekend as our date since we really haven’t left the house to do anything besides work lately. We figured we could pack some coffee or hot cocoa and just enjoy the lights as a covid safe activity.
Also, for those that commented not to use retinol while pregnant – no worries. I literally have no skin care routine to speak of, which is sad. I wash my face with apricot scrub in the shower, and cetaphil at night and slap on some moisturizer and call it a day. And rarely wear makeup. So I’m sure after BofV (baby of Veritek) arrives I’ll have to step up my game.
BittergaymarkDecember 9, 2020 at 12:01 pm #969820No, no, no, I meant that dating —- period —- simply seems so long, long ago now in this wonderful time of life under Covid19. Dining out, an evening at the movies, dancing the night away to Madonna… Did any of that ever really, truly happen? It all seems a lifetime ago. Not that all dates are inherently awful. ?
Some of my friends have successfully dated during the pandemic!
@veritek One of childhood friends and her fam have been my family’s friends for years. She and her mom both have perfect skin and neither of them do anything. I’d argue people still need a sunscreen, but good skin genes trump any skincare routine, IMO.
Sunscreen is a must, and keeping your skin clean, but everything else is really optional and based on your skin’s needs.
My dad’s mom and sister never did anything special but cleanse and stay out of the sun (and my grandma used pink Olay). No makeup at least in my lifetime, and both had/have gorgeous unblemished skin. My aunt asked for moisturizer now that she’s in a nursing home and gets really dry.
My skin has needs… I look at my brother, who does nothing, and he’s got a ton of brown spots and clogged pores and just texture and tone issues and more wrinkles than I do. And I’m like, ok, what I’m doing is helping.
