@SM – I wouldn’t put vaseline on my face, but if you are worried about getting your pillow case greasy – just put a plain t-shirt over your pillow before bed and then toss it the laundry on a daily basis.
And as noted above, if you mix Vaseline with lotion, it won’t feel sticky or greasy. I can feel the difference in the winter – I shower/moisturize at night and I won’t start feeling dry until about 18-20 hours later.
SMDecember 17, 2020 at 10:03 am #974880@LisforLeslie – I didn’t even think about the t-shirt thing. That’s an easy fix. Thanks!
@SM I sometimes use Aquaphor (similar to Vaseline) on particularly dry patches on my face, but I don’t need to use a ton… so I don’t feel like greasy pillowcases or pajamas are an issue. I personally wouldn’t slather Vaseline or Aquaphor all over my face.
I’m trying to see how long I can stick it out as an outdoor runner in Chicago this winter and read in an online running community that a lot of people who run outdoors year-round like Vaseline on exposed skin to prevent windburn.
I noticed on Dr. Shereene Idriss’s Instagram that she posted a graphic explaining the different kinds of chemical exfoliants and skin types they are best suited for. She has a short YouTube video that explains in more detail. I noticed she’s been active on YouTUbe lately and in a video I watched this morning on exfoliation, she mentioned that she tested positiv for COVID. So, while she isolates, she’s going to try to make a lot of skincare basics videos that she normally doesn’t have time for being a full-time dermatologist and mom. Noticed there’s also one on her favorite winter moisturizers. She’s been helpful for me in finding products that work for me, or knowing which active ingredients to research and look out for, and I’ve always liked YouTube as a resource for hair/skin/beauty. Anyway, link for anyone who may be interested: https://www.youtube.com/c/ShereeneIdrissPillowtalkderm/videos.
Vaseline (and maybe aquaphor) is the only thing that really works on lips, too. A lot of balms are medicated and just make the problem worse in the long run. Other balms are good, like I really like Baby Lips, but only putting on some Vaseline morning and night really keeps them soft in winter. And I’ve had bad dry patches on the sides of my face where it’s not oily, and Vaseline fixes it quick.
My boyfriend has been complaining about dry skin this winter. Mine feels less dry in our new place, but I guess his is worse. I bought him some Kiehl’s products as a gift, slapped a bow on, and left them in the bathroom instead of his stocking. He’s been using some of my skincare items, which is fine, and even though skin is skin, he was so happy to find I’d bought him some “for men” items. I thought it was cute.
LisforLeslieDecember 21, 2020 at 11:38 am #978772@Copa – many years ago when I skied we used vaseline to prevent windburn. But it has no SPF. See what’s out there for skiers and other winter sports people.
My ex-boyfriend used to love the kiehls avocado eye cream. I feel like their products are often too moisturizing for my combo skin and not enough anti-aging, but I think a lot of them are great for guys. The packaging too, doesn’t look too “woman / complicated routine.”
I haven’t had too much trouble with getting Vaseline on my pillow but I tend to sleep on my side. It is seriously such a treat for me to slather Vaseline on my face. Something just for me. It was a “step” in my relationship the first time I did that when my boyfriend (I mean, fiancé! Haha) stayed over.
December 21, 2020 at 3:55 pm #978959I have been reading up more on skin care through the subreddit thread r/Skincareaddiction. I highly recommend checking it out if you haven’t already, has some great resources for how to formulate your routine based on your skin type, issues and budget. As well as a plethora of recommendations for products.
I have decided to put off any medical treatment for my breakouts to try and re vamp my skin care regime, I am gonna do it in two parts, first addressing my acne breakouts, then move forward with my existing acne scarring and skin rejuvenation.
@copa, yes, we are looking to buy and move in together in the next 6 months. The market is not great for buyers now but hopefully we will find something. I do feel more confident moving forward now that we are engaged.
On that note — for people who live together with their SO, do you do you your own laundry or share the chore?
@Cleo, yes I read that subreddit too! FWIW, I wish I went to see a doctor earlier. I know not everybody has the best experience with doctors but I personally liked mine. They can go through with you on different factors, like for example, your IUD. Especially since you have had ongoing issues, I’m not sure if the stuff on that subreddit will work.
@hfantods My husband does his own laundry and I do mine. On a rare occasion I’ll ask him if he wants to throw any of his clothes in with a dark or light load of mine, but otherwise me mostly do our own. When the baby comes that might change just because our laundry chores will increase exponentially I’m sure.
We try to split as much as possible. He cooks dinner, I clean up and vise versa. (Lately he’s been doing a lot more heavy lifting as I’m still having a lot of fatigue from lingering covid symptoms plus being pregnant and he’s a saint.) But for example, Sunday I swept and mopped the house and I asked him to do was scrub the sinks and toilets before we went to bed and he did. I feel like we have a pretty good system down of sharing responsibility.
