Oh man! So I think I forgot to update that the weekend we had our appt at Tiffany, I had a sore throat and we ended up canceling thinking it may have been COVID. I never tested positive, so it was some other seasonal ailment. He’s made comments that we should get that planned again but we haven’t bothered. Ha.
What/where is the plan for the bachelorette party? I think it’s nice for you to try to accommodate everyone’s schedules but don’t think you need to.
Ah I see!
It’s pretty low key —- axe throwing and dinner. So the risk is pretty much going to a restaurant. Initially I had asked my bridesmaid what she thought her travel plans would be —- if she thought she would come earlier and “wfh” that week or if she’d arrive later on in the week. She thought she’d do the former so we planned around it. I guess the risk of catching COVID close to the wedding wasn’t as on my mind. I would have wanted to do it in May more for scheduling and stress before the wedding. It’s planned now though.
As someone who usually ends up having to travel for friends’ big events, I think it’s nice that you took her schedule into account/tried to minimize the amount of time/money she might have to spend to be there. A friend of mine once got kicked out of a bridal party because she couldn’t afford to go on some overseas bachelorette party. It’s too bad she can’t make it, though.
AngeMay 10, 2022 at 3:54 pm #1109325Not to threadjack but we bought a house! I can’t believe we actually managed to get it done! It’s in a really good area close to the pub we actually got married in plus a golf course, so my husband can take it up again finally. The median house price in Australia has jumped to about $730,000 (up about $200,000 from 2020) so I’m super glad we managed to get in.
I just got the somewhat boring (but versatile!) latte color… wanted a neutral. If I opt into a second pair, I’ll get one of the colors. I actually like quite a few of the colors!
@Ange Congrats! I’m really glad for you guys. I didn’t realize the housing market in other areas of the world is (or at least seems to be?) similar to what we’re experiencing here. It’s been absurd here. We happened to right as the market took a little dip leading up to the 2020 election and it happened in a way where the stars seemed to come into alignment for us, so it was drama-free, but we know so many people who offered tens of thousands over asking price who still got outbid! When’s the move?Congrats Ange!!! That is so exciting! The housing market is crazy here too (Greater Toronto Area) although I think it’s starting to cool. I heard in Australia you have an auction bidding system? For us we have “blind bidding”. Sometimes it feels like it’s a chance for dishonest realtors to jack up the price by pretending there’s another higher bid.
AngeMay 10, 2022 at 4:55 pm #1109331Thanks guys, it’s an exciting time for all of us it seems 😁. Settlement is quite short, should be around June 22 so not long. Thankfully we’re expert packers by this stage and we didn’t even unpack most of our stuff this time around so it shouldn’t be too bad.
Housing was always crazy in the capital cities here but the one I’m in seemed weirdly immune to it for the longest time until covid hit, then this state became one of the only ones that wasn’t getting case numbers so it was never really locked down. That plus the nicer weather meant all of a sudden there was a mass migration of people from the heavily affected states where housing was already expensive so they had plenty of money and drove up the prices a ridiculous amount. Before we left in 2013 a house in the area we live in now might go in the 400s at the max if it was a really nice one, it was considered a bit working class and where people lived if they couldn’t afford a nicer place closer to the city. Nowadays it’s blue chip and houses are starting to go for over a million.
