I have been getting like, 2-3 haircuts a year lately…I don’t know why. I’m lazy! I haven’t found greys yet, but my hair is getting redder. I am spending a lot on trying face creams and trying makeup out- after not using much for the pandemic times.

I use Saie foundation (it’s really light and sometimes I only use that) and concealer right now if I’m at work and wearing makeup. I really like it. It’s light weight and looks great on my skin. They may have a limited shade range. I did try kosas first but didn’t really like it. I’m old and do have wrinkles and stuff and I needed like hydrating everything that doesn’t settle and crease. I really don’t wear much and I think that’s a tip I learned here from Kate. Less is more.

I am heavily into scent right now. I wear mens woodsy scents for me to enjoy all day.

@Anonymousse Are you using the Saie Slip Tint? I have that one and like it. I was unsure of the texture at first, but it’s lightweight on my skin, has SPF, offers a little coverage, and gives a nice glow. I find the finish a little tacky, but think I’d repurchase.

I also get very hot when I exercise so I’m the kind of runner who likes to be as naked as possible. I actually enjoy running outdoors in the winter as long as the pavement isn’t icy. The limiting factor is the shorter days, though.

I’ve biked home exactly once from my office using my city’s bike share bikes and holy crap was our lakefront trail crowded. It was insane and our bike share bikes are incredibly heavy, so it’s hard to react quickly if needed. One of my coworkers bikes to and from work as often as he can, even in the winter if conditions are reasonable, and said I should give the morning commute into the office by bike a try. He said it’s very quiet and peaceful. Our bikes were stolen from our garage last year, so hopefully when I get a new one I can commute by bike sometimes on a bike that doesn’t weigh 50 lbs.

Very heavy bikes are so hard to ride. I used to ride around on big clunkers. I’m lucky that we bought new bikes right when we had babies…my husband’s a bike fanatic. I have a nice road bike now and and mtn bike. He does too, and then we have the kids bikes. If you can imagine, I store them in my minivan and our attic if it is out of season, although he has an indoor trainer he uses if the weather is bad and he’s intensely into training right now. We have no basement currently or garage, and it is kind of driving me crazy. We have a townhouse and it’s tight, but somehow we fit.

I did get our bikes stolen out of our garage storage in our cool new apartment is Seattle back in the day, and insurance replaced them…with brand new versions of our older bikes. I remember we were of course, not happy when it happens but also sort of made out pretty well on the other side of it.

Also, yes it is the slip tint. I use layers and layers of moisture and then one pump of that usually on my undereyes mostly. I am a messy fingertip user and do a minimal look.

I think I tried a sample of that slip tint and really liked it. Something hydrating with sunscreen and a tint is perfect for more mature skin. One I also love that provides a little more coverage, is L’Oreal TrueMatch nude hyaluronic tinted serum. It doesn’t have sunscreen though. But it’s a light coverage, moisturizing, not gonna show your flaws, very forgiving, and super easy to get the shade right because it somehow has multiple pigments in it that adjust to your skin tone.

I love a good tinted lip balm too, especially in winter. I hate to say, but the Dior Addict color reviving balm is pretty awesome. And I love the Charlotte Tilbury Pillowtalk hyaluronic balm. These products are never going to leave your lips dry and patchy. Plus you can swipe them on at your desk or wherever.

I don’t even have particularly dry skin, but the lighter, sheerer, moisturizing products are really the way to go as you age.

I have skin prone to redness with any cold, heat, dry air, cold air…very reactive. So I layer pure aloe, La rich posay toleraine, then a thicker cream, (boy do I like the charlotte tilbury cream!) I have a tatcha dewy skin cream I use on top that I’m using up right now. It sort of feels thick like a balm, then a little makeup if I’m working, maybe. I can get away with not wearing any but I’m trying to wow everyone right now and have the appearance of an ethereal princess, while I kick ass all day, totally unattainable but obviously needing a promotion ASAP.

I think I look pretty good for my age. I know everyone maybe thinks that, but I even have younger people saying they can’t believe I’m forty. I know that may be cheap flattery, but I’ll take it. I myself am a horrible judge of age. Especially with smokers, etc. I thought one of my new bosses was way, way older than me and he’s younger-32. He’s very short, bulky and fair haired Irishman to the point where he kind of looks like the leprechaun if I’m being my absolute meanest? He’s a man’s man, football and Greek letters type. I would have told you he was nearing fifty. He wears life hard and it’s his lifestyle.

I just got this cheap Pacifica lip tint that I swiped once and loved but I keep misplacing it and haven’t even given it a second try yet. I was doing the CT Pillowtalk or lip cheat, but that was a little too much for me and because I’m constantly using a tinted balm it comes right off for me. Lately, since I have been focusing on being great at work, I am dehydrated and using a lot more lip balm. I have started getting disciplined and taking a huge bottle of water, a can of fizzy water, and a huge protein drink to work because if I don’t take care of my body I feel like crap. It took me along time to learn that. “Just one more task and then I’ll take a break,” is kind of my internal monologue.

That was the third bike I’ve had stolen while living in this city! All three were taken from secure areas. The silver lining is that this one was cheaper (as far as bikes go anyway) and I didn’t like it that much; I bought it online without ever seeing or riding it in person in 2020 when bikes were a hot commodity. So I hope to shop for a second-hand one next time, in person.

Years ago, back when I did Birchbox, I got a tinted chapstick in my box that looked clear but when applied was a your-lips-but-better color. I really loved that one. Cannot recall the brand. I had no idea Pillowtalk was available as a balm! There’s a small store not too far from me that sells mostly European skincare brands and I’d like to do some research to try some of those lines.

The La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume B5 has zinc in it, so it’s great for redness! I apply it maybe 1-2 nights/week in winter and can always tell the next morning that my redness is down. The BF will specifically use it on this dry red dry patch he gets on his forehead sometimes in the winter.

Re: The old-looking coworker. When I did the online dating thing, there were men who looked SO old for their listed ages! It was a minority and yeah, some people lie about age on those sites, but every once in awhile I was really taken aback.

I use that baume, too. I have a few other redness products but that baume is the stuff. It can heal anything, and it’s seems expensive but when you’re suffering from a sunburn, it’s the best. I use it on my face daily also.

Has anybody used Vitamin C powders? I have been using the LRP serum but wondering if I should use something stronger.

Annoyed to hear about bike thefts!

I didn’t know that vitamin C powders were a thing! I started using the Glossier Super Glow vitamin C serum earlier this year. I liked it enough to repurchase. I can’t justify the price tag for Skinceuticals, which seems to be the gold standard in the derm world.

We’re heading on vacation/to a wedding in Mexico in a few weeks. It’s a desi wedding and for one of the events, I am participating in a group dance and we are all wearing colorful traditional outfits. I’m normally a carry on only person, but that one outfit is probably going to take up a lot of space in my suitcase, so I’m planning to pack a larger suitcase and check it. Which means I should have space for any and all skincare I want to bring. I usually don’t bring everything I’d typically use when I travel. Really excited to bring a big tube of my preferred sunscreen.

Am I losing my mind? I could’ve sworn I left a comment here – about trying L’Oreal True Match – but now I don’t see it?

Anyway, at the risk of repeating myself: I got the L’oreal True Match after you all were talking about it and I tried it this morning and I like it! I’ve worn foundation a handful of times in the past 30 years – I hate the way it feels and don’t like the way it looks on me – but something made me think this stuff would feel more like moisturizer than makeup and it does! It’s very sheer and lightweight, which I love, and the coverage is good. Not sure I’ll wear it daily but I like it as an option for when I want to look a little more pulled together than my everyday look (which is generally pretty pulled-together anyway, just with no foundation of any kind, usually).

The serum one? Yeah, it’s so easy. I wear it for work. It’s very light, doesn’t bother me at all, and also doesn’t rub off from a mask.
