There are/will be other jobs out there for you if/when you are ready! It’s not worth it when your mental and emotional health are really suffering from it. One of my friends recently got fired from a job, which sucks, but she’s had some health issues (mental + physical) pop up in the years she was there working under a boss who sounded like a whack job. Her doctors couldn’t really figure out what was causing some of the problems she was having. It’s been a few weeks and all the mystery symptoms are resolving. It was the job!!!
May 22, 2023 at 8:22 am #1120521I’m sorry, Anon, and I hope you don’t beat yourself up too much. You did what you had to do in the moment to keep your sanity.
I rage quit my first “real job” out of college. I was treated so poorly and there was a final straw that I don’t even remember, but I do remember that I rage quit on the spot, grabbed a box and cleared my desk and left, no plan in place. I was a single 23-year-old with no safety net and no idea how I was going to support myself. But it all worked out eventually.
May 24, 2023 at 8:32 am #1120532So, this thread turns eight years old two months from today. It’s on page 938 of comments. I wonder, if we work really hard here, can we hit 1000 pages on the 8th anniversary? We will have to average about seven pages a week every week for the next two months, which is about a page a day, which is about 12 new comments every day. I think we can do it!
OMG. We can do it!!!
I need to go back and read from the beginning. Veritek started this thread less than a week after my first date with the husband…. there was one dude who would frequently comment that he was sure we wouldn’t work out because we had one argument 6 months in. I was upset that he hadn’t introduced me to his fam when he had met mine. Admittedly, I didn’t speak up sooner and on my birthday, I let it out while a little inebriated. Obvs, we worked through it. And a couple weeks later, I was having dinner at his parent’s house.
@Copa, announce an engagement on the anniversary. JK!! Although I will admit that when I see your name pop up… I wonder 🙂
I know I’m not supposed to ask about babies and weddings and stuff. But there you have it. Faux pas on my part.
May 24, 2023 at 11:06 am #1120537Sometimes I wonder if I should rename this thread to reflect the change in relationship status among the most active contributors since it began eight years ago. But hopefully those in relationships are still having “awesome dates” with their partners.
And I’m always excited to hear news of engagements/ weddings/ babies/ promotions/ etc. no pressure!
LOL! One day maybe… I’m indifferent to marriage as an institution at this point. I don’t think kids are for me, so IDK if I will ever legally tether myself to anyone, even though I very much thought marriage was my goal when dating. And briefly in my mid/late 20s, when I lived in a different area where seemingly everyone was paired off and settled down by 25, I was even freaking out about it a little bit. We did have an appt to go to Tiffany to try on rings I think last fall after a friend told me they give you free champagne, but then we had a COVID scare and had to cancel.
A few weeks ago I ate lunch out on an in-office day. I ordered a salad, added chicken to it for some protein, and also got a cafe au lait. After tip, I’d spend something absurd like $30. For a salad and coffee. Today, that same cafe/bakery was giving out free cold brew and cookies in my building lobby. I got the last cookie. I feel like I just got some of that $30 back.
If anyone has read any great books lately, I’m all ears. I’m in a reading slump. I’m pretty late to the audiobook party, but I just listened to my first one — I’m Glad My Mom Died. (Also happy to connect with anyone who uses Good Reads, which I’m trying to actually use to see if it helps me through my slump.)
VathenaMay 24, 2023 at 12:06 pm #1120539Wow, I didn’t realize the thread was almost a tween! That’s crazy. I have read almost all of it, probably – I keep up but don’t comment so much. I especially appreciate the random beauty product reviews!! I do think it would be nice to hear updates from any other former posters/lurkers (like Veritek). I often wonder what has happened with folks like Janelle/JD (sp?), Firestar, lemongrass, Addie Pray, and others. Probably just busy with life, mostly! Although I know some have left/been asked to leave after conflicts here.
My daughter is turning 10 in a few days (double digits!!) so noting the passage of time is especially mind-blowing to me this week. The thing about parenthood that I had no inkling of is how high the stakes are for life now, and how much I would worry about everything. Trying to avoid basically all news sources today as they are marking the 1-year anniversary of Uvalde – my daughter is in 4th grade. I don’t want to leave this country to the dogs, but we may have an option to move abroad for my husband’s career at some point, and it sure would be nice not to have that worry every single day.
On a lighter note – Copa, if you’re into fiction, I recently read both “Daisy Jones and the Six” and “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo”, both by Taylor Jenkins Reid, and they were a nice palate cleanser!
May 24, 2023 at 12:22 pm #1120540I know that Veritek is married and has a toddler, and Addie Pray is busy lawyering and being what looks like an excellent single mom to her 7-year-old. Not sure about the others. And even though I banned BGM from the site (over a year ago), we’re still friendly on social media and he seems to be healthy and doing well.
AnonymousseMay 24, 2023 at 12:35 pm #1120541I need a new book, too. I haven’t really been getting into anything lately as far as reading. I’ve read those two, Vathena (great to see you pop in!!) and agree they are good.
We’ve also gone through a pandemic on this thread, a Trump presidency…so much!
@copa, I remember you mentioning the Tiffany’s thing, otherwise I totally wouldn’t have said that. :). I was always ambivalent about marriage too. I’m not sure why I decided to take the plunge. It felt right. I dunno.
Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is on my to read list. As is the latest Louise Penny. After seeing Tina and Amy last weekend on their Restless Leg Tour, I kind of want to read their books again. The show was so good!! Or maybe listen since they narrate.
I’d be on board with changing the name to reflect how this post has changed. I like how we all catch up here. Dating. Marriage. Kids. Hair, makeup and fashion tips. Travel.
