For forever, I have a weekly check-in call with my team, most who sit in the office with me. I’m likely going to add another call just so we can chat / vent / whatever. One of my reports lives alone and is super social so I know she’ll feel stir crazy. Definitely trying to help where I can.

    @Part time lurker

I was referring to the age bracket of people I had seen specifically. I have no doubt teenagers are being dumb also but they weren’t the ones I saw online screaming about their rights.

Anyway, I have a temp and sore throat today. A similar lurgy was going around my office last week so I’m sure I’m fine but I had a meeting with a group of older men today and no way in hell would I risk that.

I have some people on my social media who are acting like this is just overboard and insane and ‘it’s just the flu’ and I really think these people need A wake Up call. More upset about bars and restaurants closing and not being able to enjoy StPattys Day. Listen, I had spring training baseball tickets, trip to Ireland, concert in early May all planned. Now cancelled. An elderly lawyer at work too was like that, ‘it’s just the flu’ and I was like wtf? You should be pretty concerned if anything ? He’s at least 65. Irresponsible.

My North America division had a big virtual meeting last night to talk about COVID and how to keep our teams engaged and just keep us checked in. We cut through a lot of the BS. We’re able to work remotely without issue, we are not asking anyone to use PTO to cover unassigned time if a contract dries up because of this crisis. After the meeting people were sending ideas on fun things they’re doing with their teams remotely – like virtual happy hours (BYOB).

Meanwhile in retirement land – almost all gathering places are shut. The only thing that’s left open is golf but they’ve allowed everyone to take four carts instead of the typical two. So now everyone can remain 6 feet apart. It hasn’t hit the community yet… but I’m just waiting for the shoe to drop.

Kinda gross, but I’d thought I’d update because the info could benefit someone. Kids still have a runny nose and cough but are completely unbothered. Their symptoms are so mild I would’ve sent my son to school before all this started. Probably how it spreads so rapidly. My husband is still in the bed. Completely unlike him. He never had a cough. His symptoms are mainly gastrointestinal. Day 3 of the liquid poos. He takes a sip of water and has to run to the bathroom. He’s super fatigued. I’m seriously considering buying him adult diapers. He’s calling his dr now because we’re worried about dehydration. According to our research, a small percentage get this virus in the gut vs the lungs. Get it in the gut and it doesn’t appear to go to the lungs. I’d rather have it in the gut!! I don’t have any symptoms and I haven’t been secluding myself from any of them. Couldn’t if I tried since I’m the only one who can take care of them. They think you’re no longer contagious when you’re feeling better about 10 days after symptoms begin. Which for us will be next Monday. God I hope they’re better by then!! They’ll have immunity to the strain they have, but of course there’s 2 strains now “s” & “L”. And it can mutate more. I’m confident we’re going to recover from this. But my house is going to smell like poo for awhile

@Helen – thanks for the update and please don’t tire yourself to the point where you have no resistance (although let’s face it, it’s coming for you). I wasn’t aware there were two presentations, I’d only heard of the respiratory impacts.

I’ve also heard others say that for kids, it’s generally mild – which is good in terms of care but we all know that small humans spread the strongest germs. Any time I’ve gotten really sick – I know a kid gave it to me (and I usually know precisely which kid).

Try freezing some pedialyte and making chips. Or just ice chips. Smaller amounts of water may be absorbed before it hits the stomach.

Thanks for the tip LisforLeslie! I’ll try it. Our dr said he was seeing patients who had more tummy involvement than lung. There’s so much they don’t know about this virus! Our dr is so slammed. He’s seeing patients over the phone only. We called the second they opened & we’re scheduled for a call in a few hours. His nurse said there’s that much of a volume

Hey so not trying to tell anyone what to do, but if you have an older neighbor you want to check on or shop for, get in touch first to ask what they want. Older people have dietary restrictions, maybe religious restrictions, and particular tastes. I call my neighbor upstairs and he tells me what he wants, if anything. Today I brought him stamps (flowers, not flags lol). He said someone had left 3 full grocery bags outside his door with no note. Some of it he could eat but a lot he couldn’t. I took the stuff he couldn’t. He can’t eat apples, he’s allergic to strawberries, he’s lactose intolerant, doesn’t eat red meat or pork, no peanut butter, etc.

    Anyway.

Oh also, if they have doctor appointments, you may be able to help by driving them or better yet helping them do a video conf. My neighbor has an appt for his heart on Friday in a busy part of the city and asked my opinion. I said no way, ask if you can do video, and if not, we’ll drive you.

I’m a millennial going insane being cooped up inside (and very lucky because my job was already remote and my husband’s job can and did transition to remote, and no kids underfoot at home), and it’s definitely my elder relatives who are obese with high blood pressure, diabetes, etc who are thumbing their nose at recommendations and literally opening speakeasies. Super frustrated because we are doing the right thing and it feels like it will all be for nothing if the rest of the country doesn’t cooperate.

I think most people are cooperating. There are a lot of assholes, but I think they’re getting more attention because it is so infuriating. Even the DT fans in my family are paying attention and obeying the orders of their state and local governments. They bemoan the restrictions, but they are obeying them.

I worry because people are twisting the announcements (for example) in Philly the police are arresting criminals but allowing nonviolent offenders to be released. Breitbart and other “news” sources are now twisting that to be Philly releasing violent criminals. I’m afraid the crazies are going to lose it soon.

Anonymouse – glad your Trump supporting relatives are smarter than mine. My relatives in Texas just got word to shut down restaurants, bars etc, which we also got in Colorado, but they bribed some official to borrow an event space to do a St Patrick’s day party with 100s of people. Just…needless.
Meanwhile my sickly, 80-something grandparents are refusing to shop during the special hours for the elderly because that’s ‘socialism’.

My elderly neighbor who travels a lot keeps trying to come over because she’s bored and her kids (my age) won’t bring the grandkids over because they are worried about her. Like just…stay inside and catch up on your reading, damn…
